Chapter Text

Anya dragged herself into the apartment which she shared with her boyfriend. It was a long day with a lot of missions, and Agent Starlight was not a fan of reports or paperwork as a whole.

“I’m home!” Anya called into the dark.

When no response came, she assumed that Damian had already retired for the evening. They often missed each other at night, since they both worked such unpredictable jobs.

Anya took off her shoes and hung her coat by the door. Her stomach was begging for food at this point, but a noise from the balcony caught her attention. In both hers and Damian's professions, surprise attacks weren't rare.

She crept to the door of the balcony, her gun firmly clasped in her hands. When she opened the door, she was ready to shoot, but she didn't find an intruder.

“Umm, welcome home?” Damian said, cautiously walking towards her, while also setting down a dagger. He was clearly just as unnerved as she was.

“Sy-on boy? You scared me! I thought there was an intruder!” Anya said, putting her gun away into the pocket in her blazer.

“Sorry. I just wanted to surprise you. And you know I sleep light.”

Anya finally looked past him and to the table setting behind him. There were candles on the balcony railing and the table was set for two.

“Oh, our anniversary! I completely forgot. I’m the worst girlfriend ever!” Anya pouted.

“No, no, no! It’s okay, Anya. We're both busy. It's fine. So, stop crying, or else your parents will have my head.” Damian tried to console her, but that only made her cry harder.

With no other ideas, Damian could only drop down to one knee.

“Anya, would you look at me please?” Damian said, holding her hand.

Damian reached into his pocket to pull out a small box.

“I was going to do this after dinner, but whatever. I know the last time I tried to ask you something didn't go well. Yeah, I’ll admit I was a coward. I didn't even say the words out loud, but I’ll say it this time. Anya, you changed my life. From the first time we met and even now you still surprise me."

Anya sucked in a breath when Damian opened the box to reveal a beautiful gold ring. It had a diamond in the center with smaller pink diamonds along the band.

“From the moment I came home with you, I knew I wanted to be with you forever. I know this isn't as romantic as your parents' engagement, and I don't currently have a grenade with me either. But, Anya Forger, will you be my home, my family, and will you marry me?”

Anya just stared for a long time. So long that Damian's knee started to hurt.

“Stupid, Sy-on boy.” Anya muttered under her breath. “Yes! A million times yes!”

They sealed the deal with a kiss and it felt like home.

“Oh, by the way, I’m taking your last name.” Damian said.

“Good! Because I don't like the sound of Anya Desmond.”

“Damian Forger does sound better.” Damian laughed with his, now, fiancee.

I love you. They both echoed in their minds.

“Hey! No cheating!” Anya said, poking his arm.

“I love you.” Damian rectified his actions and said it out loud this time. (He learned from his precious mistakes.)

“I love you too!”

No punches, no insults, and nobody else was there to ruin the moment.

Perfect.

Notes:

*Holding back tears* Here we are at the end of this story. When I was first planning this, it was just going to be a one-shot, but I'm so happy I continued. I love writing about these two so much! I'm also super grateful for all of your support and comments! They really kept me motivated to finish this and make me so happy! Thanks again for reading everyone and I hope to see you in my next fic!

-Lune

P.S. Because it wasn't very clear, Anya becomes a spy and Damian becomes an assassin.
