Chapter Text

Eddie was tired. No, scratch that, Eddie was shattered, knackered, exhausted, drained and any other word he could think of for tired. He was all of them and more.

He was on hour 18 of a 24 hour shift, and they had just come off of a rather draining call. He was hoping for a quick shower, to get rid of the remaining dust and dirt, and hopefully a nap that lasted more than 15 minutes this time.

He left his jacket and helmet straight on his hook, grabbing a spare shirt and walking for the showers. He passed the lockers on the way, barely giving a second glance to the room until he saw a foot sticking out from behind the bench. His eyes scrunched in confusion, looking around the rest of the station before looking back. The foot hadn’t moved, and Eddie walked quicker into the room and rounded the bench as he saw the foot joined to a body, and a head that looked a lot like Bucks, and a pool of blood beneath him. Ok, now he was more than worried.

“Buck?” He whispered, just standing to look over the man, seeing his eyes closed and his hand loosely gripping a bloody, wadded shirt. “Buck?” He said louder, kneeling down and placing both hands on the mans shoulders.

He seemed to stir from his trance as he heard Hen walk past outside, and he shouted out as he grabbed a towel from the stack and pressed it against Bucks stomach. “Hen! Hey, we need help in here!”

She ran in, confused and worried, but quickly went into ‘paramedic mode’ as she saw the blood and turned to run for her supplies. Chim followed the shouting too, and looked down in shock at Eddie shaking frantically, but followed Hen for the gurney.

“Cap!” Eddie heard them speaking to one another outside and shouting orders, but he could only focus on Buck, still and cold on the floor. Cold? No, no that wasn’t right. Cold meant-. He pressed his hand to Bucks neck, scolding himself for not doing it first, and felt the thrum of Bucks pulse beneath his fingers. Alive, he was alive.

“Buck, wake up, please.” He shook him, moving both hands to shake him gently as Hen took the towel from his hand and inspected the wound. “Buck!”

“What happened? Did you see him?”

“Just found him here. I didn’t know he was hurt, did you know he was hurt?” Hen looked at him like he was speaking nonsense; of course she didn’t know, or she would’ve pestered him until he let her check it out. “There’s so much blood, there’s- do you think-?”

“He’ll be fine, we’ll get him to hospital and give him a top up. The wound doesn’t look too bad itself.”

“Come on Buck, wake up for me huh? Please?” He shook him and leant over his face, being gentle not to jostle him too much. A groan sounded beneath them and they both looked at his face as he opened his eyes slowly.

“Buck? Buck! Hey, are you awake? Stay awake.” He smiled, as he saw Bucks eyes open, glazed and confused, but open. His relief was instant, just seeing Buck awake and moving -kinda- was enough to calm his thrashing heart.

Notes:

i've written 7 9-1-1 fics in the last 24 hours,,, i should probably save some to post but i just get so excited about posting what i've written and seeing kudos/comments :D
to be fair they are all mostly one shots lmfao but it still counts i think this is a record for me
can you tell i'm really trying to complete whumptober even if it is 3 months late?

Notes:

the reason it's 2 chapters is because i wrote it just like this but when i finished it i kinda wanted to see Eddies pov of him finding Buck so i'm gonna just add that as a kind of 'missing scene' second chapter.
i like the way it reads as a one shot but i seriously need to write that, even though it'll be short, probably.
please leave any prompts too!! im in the mood to write with a serious idea block rn
