Chapter Text

Sarah Alder was, for lack of a better word, bored. Out of her damn mind. The people who were unaware of her recent return to life were an amusing mix of shocked and pissed when she appeared with Petra.. Three hours ago. She could feel Tally’s happiness-worry through the bond, and assumed Tally could feel her own readiness to leave.

“So, you will agree to be reinstated to General and share the work load with General Bellwether. What is it you are asking for in return?” Finally, the end was in sight.

“A home, of my own design built within the wards. For myself and whoever else I may choose to have there. And I want to be able to live my life again. Oh and a few months before we announce it to the public. To the soldiers, now is fine. But to the public I want you to wait.” She could feel Petra stiffen beside her, surprised at the request…and the vagueness of her words. She still agreed, as did the others in the room. Though the president seemed angry at the fact Sarah refused to resign the accords that apparently dissolved with her…death. Sarah signed the papers towards her, and finally left the room. Petra hot on her heels.

“Thank you, Sarah. For agreeing to return. I- this job, I don’t know how you managed alone for so very long.” Sarah hummed in acknowledgment.

“I…I suppose I was able to stop feeling in a way. Stop loving individuals, start fighting for the whole without regard for the one. Until Tally. She changed everything you know, loving her changed everything.”

Petra was staring at her, her expression unreadable.

“I also might have had 7 other women helping me with the paper work.” She said with a smile, watching the disbelief fall across Petra’s face.

“Oh my goddess, of course you did. No wonder you managed so damn much you had the worlds most dedicated assistants.”

Sarah’s laugh echoed down the empty hallway.

Tally had snuck back to the administrative building, returning to Sarah’s room after two hours. Aella had started fussing, and as comfortable as she was feeding her daughter she didn’t think M and Gregorio were ready for her to whip her boob out in the middle of the lounge. Baby or no that might break them.

She had just finished burping Aella when the door creaked open and Sarah joined her on the bed. She tapped her lip and grinned when Sarah pressed her own against hers.

“Hi, how was your meeting?”

“Boring, how was your reunion?” Tally raised a brow. She had known it was boring, could feel it. But the lack of explanation was strange.

“The reunion was fine, got a few odd looks because of the carrier but I think only M and Gregorio actually saw her. Honestly, I kind of am okay with that. Not telling anyone, letting them just find out?” Plus it would be hilarious to show up in the mess with a baby and zero explanation. The gossip alone would feed Tally for months.

“They…I am having a house built. For us. And I am being reinstated.” Sarah spoke, taking Aella into her arms as Tally’s went somewhat slack.

“Huh, I wasn’t sure if you would accept or not.” Sarah kept her eyes trained on Aella, her nervousness echoing into Tally

“Are you upset? I- we didnt talk about it but-” Tally straightened, her hand reached for Sarah’s face.

“Oh no love, I’m not upset. I am happy for you, that you get to continue doing something you love. Saving witches…I am just curious what this means for us.” Sarah hummed, the relief she felt strumming through to Tally.

“I actually had a thought. I don’t care who knows. Not about us, and in a way not about Aella…but what if we just keep it to us and only answer questions? Not come right out and say it.” Tally could feel the smirk spreading across her face. The one that had Sarah eyeing her suspiciously.

“Like just, not hide it but not tell anyone.” Sarah nodded.

“Shit I am so in. Can we deny it? If someone asks? Just for a while? Like if someone says hey your kid has Alder eyes I can say nah they’re green. This could be AMAZING Sarah.” Sarah’s smile was the most amused it had been in a long time, and still growing as Tally kept talking.

“And-and what if we can get my sisters and Izadora and everyone else in on it? Think about how long we could fuck with everyone! Babe the possibilities! This is going to be so much fun. I have so many plans. I am making so many plans. Wait did you say a house?” Sarah laughed out loud, Aella flapping her hands on moose and squealing along with the joyful sound.
