Chapter Text
Shouta opened the box left on his bed. Hizashi had left to patrol, leaving Shouta alone. Inside the box was an old fashioned tape with a note attached. Staring at the tape in confusion, Shouta picked up the note and immediately recognized his husband’s writing.
Dear Shouta,
I decided it’s been far too long since i made you a mixtape. Almost fifteen years! So, here is your new and improved love of my life mixtape, only for my favorite listener.
Love you!!!!-Hizashi xoxoxo
Shouta smiled fondly as he remembered the first mixtape Hizashi had ever made him. It had been the end of their first year at UA, and was the reason they got together. Well, that and Tensei and Nemuri’s meddling. As Shouta pressed play on the first side of the mixtape, he was immediately taken back to their first meeting, the summer before their last year of middle school.
When the moon fell in love with the sun
All was golden in the sky
All was golden when the day met the night
It was a hot summer day. Hizashi was walking through the local park, treasuring his time before school started again. He enjoyed watching the sun set over the colorful forest. The sun rays glittered like gold on the grassy floor. Flowers every color of the rainbow were scattered around him. Following his path to his favorite tree always increased his mood, no matter how bad his day had been. However, when he arrived at his tree, he found a small, pale boy who looked to be about his age reading a book.
When the sun found the moon
She was drinking tea in a garden
Under the green umbrella trees
In the middle of summer
The boy wore all black clothes even though it was the middle of summer. Hizashi couldn’t fathom how anyone could withstand the summer heat in a black hoodie and black sweatpants. Trailing his gaze up the boy’s body, he noticed how unwell the boy was. He looked emaciated, with hollow cheeks and sunken in eyes. He was pale, though Hizashi couldn’t be sure if it was natural or from malnourishment. Taking a closer look, Hizashi saw purple around the boy’s neck. In fact, the bruises were in the shape of hands. Hizashi began walking towards the boy, going slowly as to not frighten him.
When the moon found the sun
He looked like he was barely hanging on
But her eyes saved his life
In the middle of summer (summer)
Shouta glanced up from his book as he felt the person’s shadow covering him. In front of him stood one of the most beautiful boys he had ever seen. The first thing he noticed was the hair. His hair color matched the sun, and seemed to defy gravity with beautiful golden waves. At first glance, the boy seems to be confident. He wore skinny ripped jeans, a crop top, and orange triangular sunglasses. Shouta also thought he saw hearing aids, though he couldn’t be sure from this distance. However, as Shouta looked closer he found the holes in the boy’s wall. His hands were shaking, likely from anxiety. His nails were painted, but the paint was chipped. Though it was hard to tell, Shouta thought he saw bags under the boy’s eyes. He was shook from his thoughts when the boy started talking.
So he said, "Would it be all right
If we just sat and talked for a little while
If in exchange for your time
I give you this smile?"
“Hi! I’m Yamada Hizashi, is it okay if I sit with you?” he asked. Hizashi focused on the boy’s face, looking for his reaction to the proposition. If he wasn’t looking for a reaction, it would appear as though the boy hadn’t heard him at all. However, Hizashi noticed the slight furrowing of his brows and the light dust of cherry pink on his cheeks. Trying to ignore the way mystery boy’s face made his heart pound, Hizashi put on his thousand watt smile, hoping to look as welcoming as possible.
So she said, "That's okay
As long as you can make a promise
Not to break my little heart
Or leave me all alone in the summer."
Shouta was not expecting that. If anything, he was expecting the boy to ask him to move. At first, he wasn’t sure if he could trust sunshine boy. Then the boy smiled. Shouta didn’t know anyone could smile that bright. It was as though the boy had encased in him the power of a hundred suns and could release it at will. Shouta immediately knew he couldn't refuse.
“Sure. I’m Aizawa Shouta,” he replied. Shouta hoped the other boy couldn’t see his pitiful pleading asking him not to break his heart.
Well he was just hanging around
Then he fell in love
And he didn't know how
But he couldn't get out
Just hanging around
Then he fell in love
Hizashi sat down next to the boy, Aizawa, and leaned over his shoulder to read the book. He didn’t notice the boy’s flinching from the sudden touch.
“What are you reading?” Hizashi asked.
“A book.” Shouta chose to ignore Hizashi’s presence as much as he could. This became increasingly difficult when Hizashi laughed the cutest laugh Shouta had ever heard.
“Well, obviously I’m not blind. What is it about?”
“It’s a book about underground heros.” This seemed to grab Hizashi’s attention.
“Do you wanna be a hero too? I’m applying to UA next year! I have a voice quirk but it’s kind of hard to control but I’ve been working for years to get better at it. What’s your quirk? Are you applying to UA? Or do you want to go somewhere not as well known since you seem to be interested in underground heros-”
“I’m applying to UA.” Shouta interrupted. Hizashi immediately brightened, which Shouta didn’t think was physically possible.
“Cool! Maybe we could help each other train! I’ve been looking for a training buddy but everyone’s too afraid of my quirk to spar with me. Not that you should be afraid! It’s an irrational fear, really.” Wow way to fuck this one up, Hizashi he thought and mentally punched himself up.
“I’ll train with you. People are afraid of my quirk, too. I can erase other people’s quirks by looking at them.”
“Woah, really? Can you eraser mine?” Hizashi gulped in a large breath of air before screeching loudly, but not loud enough to harm anyone. His screech never left his throat, and he turned around to see Shouta had glowing red eyes and gravity defying hair. As he closed his mouth, Shouta’s hair fell down and his eyes returned to normal.
“I don’t see why anyone would be afraid of you! Your quirk is amazing,” Hizashi said, still in shock. Shouta didn’t reply. They spent the rest of the afternoon in the same comfortable conversation. Most of it was Hizashi’s rambling, but Shouta interjected a few times with his own thoughts. The boys left the forest with the sun, vowing to meet again another day.
In the middle of summer
All was golden in the sky
All was golden when the day met the night
Hizashi and Shouta spent the rest of their summer meeting at their tree. Hizashi always brought snacks, hoping that it would help Shouta look healthier. Shouta listened to Hizashi talk for as long as he needed to, and Hizashi had never felt more accepted by someone his own age. As summer came to an end, their relationship only grew stronger. Both boys were oblivious to the fact that they were both in love with each other.
Summer, summer, summer, summer
In the middle of summer, summer, summer, summer
the middle of summer, summer, summer, summer
the middle of summer, summer, summer, summer
In the middle of..
