Chapter Text
Growing up, you were a freak, even in today's standards. Your quirk was elasticity. In short you could make any of your appendages longer, like Mr. Fantastic or Luffy from One Piece. You would watch those religiously growing up, trying not to feel like a freak. You quirk had manifested at the beginning of kindergarten during snack time. You had wanted another milk, but the teacher said you could only have one. You were staring at the milk cartons and reached your arm to grab one, and your arm kept going and going. You had managed to get the milk carton, but you couldn’t pull your arm back.
You had screamed in terror before starting to cry. You had been escorted out and into a room till your arm was back to its regular size. After you had been taken back to the classroom no one wanted to be your friend anymore. You were like a plague that no one wanted to touch or even come close to. It was that way all through elementary school, and even into middle school. No one wanted to be your friend, and you were bullied insistently. The only light you had was Izuku Midoryia. He was quirk less, but you always treated him as an equal. You two would hang out and talk about anything. You defended him against Bakugo, who in your opinion was an overrated extra.
“Are you still applying to UA?” He asked you over lunch one day. He seemed nervous.
“Yeah, of course. You are still right?” You asked as you ate a piece of lamb.
“Definitely. I’m just worried about it.”
You reached your hand over and gently took his. He blushed and you smiled. “Izuku, you have the makings of being a great hero. That’s what matters. You can do this.”
He nodded confidently before you returned to your noodles
-------------------------
The day of the exam had arrived, and you were upset. Izuku and you had agreed to walk to the school together to take the test, but he was nowhere to be seen. So you had walked to the school by yourself, upset and worried about your best friend. You weren’t looking and bumped into someone. You started to apologize but stopped the moment you saw him.
“Bakugo.”
“What the matter? Deku not show up?”
“That’s none of your business.” You tried to get around him but he stopped you again.
“You can do better than Deku, you know that right?”
“In friendship? No, I had no idea. Considering you and everyone else acted like I had leprosy and ignored me.”
Once again you tried to get past but he stopped you.
“That’s not what I mean. Sure your quirk is freaky, but you could be a great side kick one day. And I was meaning romantically.”
You were flabbergasted at his audacity. “First off, I will never be a sidekick. But I will kick you hard in your ass for that comment. Secondly, Izuku and I aren’t dating. Even if we were, it would be none of your business! You don’t get to ignore me my whole life and then suddenly think you can talk to me like this. If you stop me from walking away again you will enter this exam with a black eye. Think of what that will do to your already terrible reputation.”
You finally shoved past him and went inside. You picked a seat in the middle, putting your small bag down. Today was not your day.
--------------------------------------
Bakugo stood in place like a statue. He had never heard you say that many words in all the years he had known you. You were always a much calmer and collected person. Always there to help and support a person. That person was namely Deku. Bakugo narrowed his eyes and went inside, grabbing a chair. He looked around for you, noticing you sitting a couple of rows back, face in hands.
For some reason this upset him. He wasn’t sure why but it did. You were always nice, always calm, always collected, and always willing to help others. You gave more than you took, and you never lost your cool.
He tried to think of the reasons that could make you snap like that. All the years you had been able to defend not only yourself but also Deku.
Deku. Deku! That must be the reason. He had overheard them at the market promising to walk to the school together. But he hadn’t seen him. He hadn’t seen him at all this summer. He hadn’t seen the two of you hanging together at your usual spots. You had been alone most of the summer and then he had broken his promise.
Bakugo looked over as Deku walked in with another girl and someone else. His head spun as fast as it could to you. Your face was stoic, as if you were a statue, but your eyes were filled with hurt and betrayal.
Bakugo was going to fry that Deku.
-------------------------------------
You watched Izuku walk in with another girl and guy. You tried not to look hurt, but you were. Your best friend had avoided you all summer and then broke a promise. You watched as Izuku waved at you but you ignored him, focusing on getting ready for the exam.
Izuku was confused but sat down anyway, trying to get your attention but you didn't give it. You had to focus on the test now.
You focused on President Mic when he came in, listening to him intently. Once he finished speaking you focused on the exam in front of you.
Saying you were smart was an understatement. You mother had tested your IQ when you were younger, wondering why you were doing so poorly in school. Your IQ was way above average, closer to 190. Your teachers had started to give you tougher work but you still aced it.
But you didn’t want to take any chances, you would go slow on this, making sure every answer was correct.
---------------------------------------
You hadn't taken your time, but you knew every answer was right. And you had finished half an hour early, so you pretended that you were still working, even though Mic knew you were done.
Once the exam was collected you followed the rest of the examinee's to the physical portion. You had been paired into the group with Bakugou, which meant you had to be fast to get some points or else he would take all of them. You changed quickly, just into some bike shorts and a tank top. Your body was petite in all ways. You had small hips along with small breasts, all of which you were picked on for.
You hurried out the exit and stood next to Bakugou, getting yourself ready.
“Hey Y/N…” Bakugo said. Neither of the two looked at each other as he spoke, both focusing on the task. “I know I’m going to beat you, but I do hope that you do well.”
“That’s the nicest backhanded comment you’ve ever given me.”
“Don’t read into it. And don’t read into what that Deku does. He’s an idiot if he doesn’t realize what a great person and friend you are.”
“Are you getting soft Bakugo?” you asked, gently elbowing him.
He scoffed but you could see a small smile on his face. As the seconds counted down you both prepared yourself mentally for what was coming. When the buzzer sounded both of you were off in a flash, running straight towards the robots.
---------------------------
You were fumbling with your phone for the next week or so. You thought you had done decent but your nerves were still haywire. You had ignored Izuku for the past week, telling him that you were busy, even though you weren’t. You would handle that situation after you got your letter.
You were emancipated from your parents, meaning you lived alone. Your parents had decided after your quirk presented that abusing someone who wouldn’t show the bruises would be a good idea. It had been Izukus mother who had called child services, meaning they were the only two who knew you lived alone.
You noticed the mail lady finishing putting the mail in everyone's boxes and hurried out with your key. You grabbed your mail before hurrying back into your apartment. You locked the door behind you and flew threw your mail. You tossed your usual bills and junk mail aside till you found the one you were looking for.
You sat at the table and ripped it open before pausing. What if you didn’t make it? What would you do then?
You felt your heart pounding in your chest, making it hard to hear. You wish you had someone to help you with this. It was then that your phone went off, scaring you out of your seat. Literally.
You fumbled to grab your phone and looked at the caller ID. You furrowed your brow and answered it.
“BBakugo?”
“Did you get in?”
“Well that a nice ‘Hello.”
“Skip that. Did you get in?”
“I uh… I opened it but haven't looked at it.”
“Don’t be a stupid extra! Look at it!”
The line went dead. Well, it wasn’t the help you were looking for but it was what you got.
You sat back in the chair, took a deep breath before pulling the card out. All Might appeared, giving you a reassuring smile. You listened to him closely, understanding that you had done well on both of the exams, meaning you had gotten in.
Once the message finished you had jumped with joy and excitement. You had made it, you had gotten in. Now if only you had someone to enjoy this happiness with.
