Work Text:
Drifting into awareness, Midoriya became slowly aware of Todoroki’s weight burrowing into his side, as well as the arm wrapped around him. The body heat of his partner was enough to bring warmth to his heart. He could almost just close his eyes and fall back asleep. However, the bright light pouring into the bedroom pushed the thought forcefully out of consideration. Closed eyelids opened with great effort and he wiggled out an arm to reach for his phone. The screen read ten in the morning, on a Sunday too. The agency had given them Sunday off of patrol and Izuku had been counting down the days. Working as a sidekick and helping people was great, but late mornings were a beloved rarity. Todoroki had needed it too, coming back at three a.m. from an interview on Present Mic’s radio.
With his train of thought returning to Todoroki, Izuku turned the best he could and started poking his boyfriend wherever he could reach, trapped in the cuddles he’d woken up to. “Shou, babe, you have to let go,” The only response given was a grumble along with a chin placed on his head and arms pulling him closer. “I need to feed Chobi,” he tried to shuffle away from his boyfriend, who was decidedly not having it and moved with him. “She’ll start to mew,”
“Sleepy,” Todoroki grumbled into his shoulder. Izuku let out a huff of laughter.
“I will make you some coffee and...” he paused to think, “miso shiru for breakfast if you get up.”
Silence took over for a moment as Shouto contemplated the offer and loosened his grip in acceptance. Izuku rolled out of bed quickly, before Todoroki changed his mind. He stretched any leftover sleep resting in his bones and slipped on some fuzzy house slippers and a worn Ectoplasm hoodie. Before heading out of the room, he made sure to give his boyfriend a quick kiss on the cheek. He took in the little quirk of lips Shouto gave in response before cleaning up in the bathroom.
Midoriya passed through the living room and spotted Chobi sunbathing. He and Todoroki adopted the little black cat when they had moved into the flat two years ago, immediately after graduating from UA. Chobi is what Izuku had settled on calling, naming her the word ‘small’ after her stature. Much bigger than back then, she rose from where she was laying and followed Izuku out the living room and into the connected kitchen. He set out her food in the bowl by the kitchen island.
Low purrs made for cheery background music as Izuku chopped some onions and started the rice cooker. He set water on the stove and added some dashi granules, tofu, and onions to let boil. Chobi finished her food by the time he’d lowered the heat to let the onions tender. She came over and rubbed her hand against the leg of Izuku’s sweatpants. He reached down and rubbed at the spots she loved, right under the chin and behind her ears. When he returned to the stove to check the onions, Chobi set out to make him stumble, weaving in between his legs before heading into the living room.
Todoroki had yet to stagger out of the bedroom even when the yellow bean paste had been smoothed out with hot water and almost ready to be added. Izuku was sure the man had fallen back asleep. He took a second away from the stove to set the coffee machine into drive. The smell of hot espresso along with the miso soup and hot rice wafting through their small flat would bring Shouto to the waking world very quickly
He was proven correct when his boyfriend came out of the bedroom a few minutes later in an over-sized T-shirt covering his boxers and bed head so bad, there was no longer a separate red and white. The man poured himself a cup of the freshly brewed coffee before taking a seat at the marble island table. Midoriya turned back to the stovetop to add the bean paste to the mixture of onion, dashi, and tofu in the pot. Stirring the mixture he glanced back at where Shouto was sitting. The man already looked more awake, eyes taking in the Izuku’s movements instead of the way they had been glazed over before.
“Finally awake, Shou?”
Izuku didn’t get a verbal answer. Instead, arms wrapped around him from behind, and a chin rested on his shoulder, mirroring their positions earlier in bed.
“The coffee will get cold,” Midoriya asked.
Todoroki started to sway from side to side, pulling Izuku into the motion by the hands placed around the waist in a warm mock-up of dancing. “Half a fire quirk, remember?” he quipped into a freckled shoulder.
“You shouldn’t use your quirk for everything.” The burner was turned off when Izuku was sure the bean paste had properly dissolved.
“Hmm. Didn’t you say it was my power though? Great way to keep making it mine,”
Shimmying out of his boyfriend's embrace, Izuku headed towards the bowl cabinet, grabbing a ladle and some soup spoons on the way back. “That was the first sports festival, Shou! Five years ago!”
Shouto opened the rice cooker and took the bowls Izuku handed him, spooning the cooked rice into them. “Still an adorable dumbass like back then,” Izuku brushed past him with a light huff and ladled the finished miso into the remaining bowls.
“Keep talking, Mr. Hand Crusher,”
“Thank you, Fanboy.” Midoriya placed the filled soup bowls onto the kitchen island. Shouto did the same with the rice. “I will!” He continued.
A stifled chuckle came from the green-haired man before he sat down on a barstool in front of the food. “Overrated temp control system.”
“Mutter Monster.”
“That’s so stupid.” Todoroki sat down too, placing chopsticks next to his bowl before handing Izuku a pair, getting a soup spoon in return. “I barely even mumble anymore!”
“Sure you don’t, Izu.” The light banter dissolved into warm silence as the food was enjoyed. A few noises here and there filled the kitchen; a yawn or a light giggle from Izuku when Todoroki used his quirk and accidentally made his coffee boil.
Chobi returned to the kitchen and seeing Todoroki, jumped into his lap. She curled up onto his left side purred when a heated hand came down to pet her. Looking at the scene from the corner of his softened eyes, Izuku let a small smile grace his face. It was the perfect picture of domesticity and being a part of it made for the best morning he could ask for.
The green-haired man leaned in closer to his boyfriend and gave him a peck on the cheek. Shouto turned to face him and they shared a smile over their food. “Love you, Shou” Izuku whispered.
“I love you, too,” he whispered back.
