"It's Such a Beautiful Day"

Summary:

Atsushi doesn't get enough acknowledgment about his trauma with Shibusawa and The Orphanage Headmaster, so, if you want more Atsushi acknowledgment, you could read this. You don't have to, though. Do whatever you want. But, it would be cool if you'd read it.

Disclaimer: Most of this is what Atsushi went through with Shibusawa, so this will get a teensy bit dark. Everything should be in the tags!

(Also, I keep coming back every couple of months and rewriting this. So, if you're rereading this and you're like, huh...this seems different, it probably is! Sorry!)

Notes:

Hello to everyone who somehow found my work! This is my first fanfic ever and I hope you like it!

I don't own Bungou Stray Dogs. I wish I did because it's awesome and the characters are well written but the sad truth is...I don't, so...🤷

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

"It's such a beautiful day."

Atsushi peered out the window of the orphanage, watching the sun shine down on all the kids playing outside. The tree leaves shimmer in the sunlight from the rain the night before. He could even spot the few small flowers that had bloomed among the grass before they were trampled by a child playing tag.

Atsushi wished that he could be out there too but the Orphanage Headmaster said that he was bad yesterday. H̶e̶'s̶ a̶l̶w̶a̶y̶s̶ b̶a̶d̶.

Atsushi continued his work, so that all of his chores would be completed before bedtime. If he didn't finish before then, he would have to stay up late to finish them, which would make it so that he'd be even more tired tomorrow.

Today, one of the caretakers has made him carry a large load of heavy boxes. She had made it very clear that Atsushi was to not drop them. He ended up dropping them, anyway. The caretaker was making him carry three boxes at a time, which made it inevitable for Atsushi to drop them. (It almost felt like a set-up)

"THOSE WERE ANTIQUE PLATES I INHERITED FROM MY GRANDMOTHER, YOU LITTLE FREAK!" She screeched. To make this situation even worse, this particular caretaker had one of the most grating voices Atsushi had ever heard. Usually when she starts to yell, Atsushi tries to zone out. This time, that was the wrong move.

The caretaker grabbed him by the hair when he wasn't paying attention, and started to drag him down the hallway, lecturing him the entire time. Atsushi wondered where she was taking him.

Oh...nevermind. He knows where this is going.

She was taking him to the Headmaster.

Once they arrived Headmaster's office, she barged in, ranting about how useless Atsushi was.

"Why do we even keep him here? All he ever does is mess things up and we always end up needing to punish him! And speaking of punishment, Headmaster, this little shit needs to be punished for what he's done to me. He dropped my plates when I specifically told him not to! He probably did it on purpose!"

The Headmaster, sounding a bit annoyed, responded, "Yes, of course, the brat was so careless. What did you expect from someone like him? Don't worry, he will be punished, like you requested. Remember, the man I talked to all of the staff about is finally here."

Surprisingly satisfied, she stormed out of the office, mumbling something like, "That brat had better finally learn his place," under her breath.

Without another word, the Headmaster grabbed Atsushi by the arm, and dragged him, much like the caretaker did, down into the basement.

Once Atsushi regained his bearings, he noticed that the basement had been...renovated. Everything had been cleared out and there was now a large, sturdy looking chair with straps and a headpiece attached, sitting in the middle of the room.

Standing in front of the chair was a tall man with long, white hair and a matching white coat. He had one of the prettiest faces that Atsushi had ever seen.

"Now Atsushi, this is Shibusawa Tatsuhiko." The Headmaster said this whilst nodding at the man in white. "He's going to be running some tests on you."

"It's very nice to meet you, Atsushi-kun." said the now identified, Shibusawa.

"..."

*SMACK*

Shibusawa slapped him. This new man doesn't seem so pretty anymore.

"You should know that it's not polite to be unresponsive when someone is talking to you, Atsushi-kun."

"I'm s- I'm sorry, sir. It's nice to- to meet you as well, Shibus-sawa-san." Atsushi said, frantically.

"Good boy." He turns to the Headmaster. "Thank you for bringing him to me. I can take it from here."

"Of course, Shibusawa-san." said the Headmaster as he started to walk back to the main floor. He then paused and whispered, "Remember, Atsushi, you are not the one to blame or hate. You need to Blame M͓̬̻͒̉ͪ̉̍ë̛́ͫ̾͢͡͡." After he said his piece, he walked to the door leaving the basement, and slipped out quietly.

"Now, Atsushi-kun, I need you to sit down in that chair for me. Can you do that?" asked Shibusawa in a calm, sweet tone.

"Ye- yes, sir."

After Atsushi had sat down, Shibusawa strapped him in.

Atsushi wondered what was about to happen.

"Now then, are you ready, Atsushi-kun?"

"What- Ready for what, sir-" Someone started to scream.

Oh, wait, that was Atsushi.

His entire body was in pain.

His body spasmed out of control as he felt a burning, buzz spreading and vibrating beneath his skin. His body was burning, healing, and reburning, over and over and over again.

At least his question had gotten answered. Even if it was the hard way, Atsushi thought, a little hysterically. What he had been tied to was a fucking electric chair.

He hurt so much.

Please

Make it stop . . .

He could barely think.

Oh, he was still screaming.

He just wants to go back to his cell. . .

(There was a flash of light)

The tiger was not happy with the man in white.

The tiger's claws have not been used in a while. This will be a good test of their sharpness.

Head wounds really do bleed a lot.

The man in white will not be a problem for the tiger's human, anymore.

(There was another flash)

After what felt like hours of experiencing that horrible burning...it stops.

It's gone.

He's free from the chair, too.

He's dizzy and still can't move, he realizes as he kneels in front of a body on the floor in front of him.

The body is covered in blood.

Oh, that's Shibusawa-san. What happened? Who saved him- no. No one would save someone like him. This must've been an accident. Maybe he got too close to the chair?

Black spots dance on the edge of his vision as he noticed a small window, high on the basement wall. He looked at the leaves, still shining in the sun, and the few small flowers, still untrampled.

As he succumbed to the growing darkness, he whispered...

"It's such a beautiful day."

Notes:

He then passes out face first into a puddle of blood, and his ass in the air, because that's his shtick. 😅
