zero gravity classroom

Summary:

“I cannot believe we’re actually doing this,” Sero says, his arm outstretched in front of him, ready to dispense more tape for the next desk they’re working on making a seatbelt for.

“Shhh, we already agreed not to talk about how many rules we’re breaking!” Mina reiterates. She smiles brightly, though, glancing upward at the desk that Uraraka is clinging onto, floating toward the ceiling.

In which Class 1-A all sit on floating desks one day, thanks to Uraraka realizing the multitude of entertaining things she can do with her quirk.

Work Text:

“I cannot believe we’re actually doing this,” Sero says, his arm stretching in front of him, ready to dispense more tape for the next desk they’re working on making a seatbelt for.

“Shhh, we already agreed not to talk about how many rules we’re breaking!” Mina reiterates. She smiles brightly though, glancing upward at the desk that Uraraka is clinging onto, floating toward the ceiling.

“Alright!” Uraraka tells them. “Sero, I need you to make the seatbelt for Iida.”

Sero nods, activating his quirk again so he can dispense some more tape for the desk. He angles his arm, shooting the tape toward where Uraraka is. With practiced motions, she swifty grabs onto it, making it float with her quirk so she can attach it into the left and right side of the chair.

“Iida-kun, you can come up now!” she says, grinning.

Iida isn’t pleased through, and he stomps his foot, getting more and more agitated by the second. “I told you, I am not going on that!”

“C’mon, it’s just for a little while, and these ceilings are fairly low,” Mina pleads.

“No—” Iida scowls. “That is not the issue! The issue is that this is considered vandalism, in addition to all the student conduct rules we’ve broken already.”

“Dude, it’s just tape,” Sero reassures. “We can take it off afterward, and Uraraka will help the entire class get down safely. Everything will go back to normal as soon as we get Aizawa-sensei to see what we’ve done.”

“And what, pray tell, is the purpose of all of this?” Iida questions, gesturing around wildly in every direction of the classroom. “We’re just going to make our desks float and sit on them until we face the consequences of our actions?”

Sero shrugs, nonchalant. “It’ll be fun. This wasn’t my idea anyway, it was Kaminari’s. The rest of us just played along.”

“You really think Kaminari-kun is the best person to trust when it comes to making decisions about everybody’s safety?” Iida asks, incredulous.

“Oh, not that. Don’t worry, I wouldn’t have agreed if this was a super risky idea,” Sero tells him, activating his quirk to acquire a piece of tape. “Take a look at the durability of this. It’s even stronger than that brand that’s commonly advertised on American television. What was it called again?”

“Flex Tape,” Asui chimes in from where she’s seated nearby. She leans her chin against her palm, unfazed by the way her desk is floating and how she’s several feet above the ground.

“Flex Tape—I don’t even know what that is—also why are you so calm?” Iida demands.

“What is there to be afraid of?” Asui asks. “I’m used to hopping up onto things much higher than this. My quirk enables me to reach heights easily.”

Iida pinches the bridge of his nose. “Am I seriously the only one who’s taking this situation seriously?”

“Oh Iida-kun, you don’t need to be so tense all the time.” Uraraka floats down, spinning around as she does so. “C’mon, I can help you get up to your chair.”

Iida exhales slowly. “To be clear, we’re going to dismantle this as soon as Aizawa-sensei comes in and sees the surprise?”

“Yep,” Uraraka confirms.

“Alright. Fine,” he agrees, as if it pains him to do so.

Uraraka looks delighted, and grabs onto his arm, helping him step on one of the tables that are still on the floor to use it as a boost upward.

After he’s situated, and Uraraka adjusts the pseudo-seatbelt to make sure he’s secure, she comes back down. Iida glares at the trio. They pretend not to notice.

“Okay! Now that we’re done with that, who else are we missing?” Uraraka asks, surveying the room.

“It’s just the last row: you, Satou, Todoroki, and Momo,” Mina tells her.

“Okay, I’ll get them settled in, then you and Sero, and lastly myself,” Uraraka says, rushing over to Satou’s side.

“I still can’t believe we’re doing this,” Sero says, walking toward her.

“Me neither, but hey, it was a lot easier to get everybody to comply than I expected,” Mina adds.

“Speaking of that, how did the three of you and Kaminari-kun manage to convince the entire class? And without me knowing?” Iiida inquires sternly. He can never seem to stop any of his classmates before they go off with their shenanigans. He simply deals with the aftermath.

“Oh, simple. We all share a collective braincell when it comes to having fun, a concept that you lack an understanding of,” Mina replies. “Who could resist the chance to play a prank on Aizawa-sensei?”

“But the honor code!” Iida stresses, doing his choppy hand movements even while under zero gravity.

“Sometimes, rules were created to be broken. Lighten up, try to enjoy it!” Mina encourages.

Iida huffs, opting not to continue with his futile arguments. “He’s going to be here soon, so you sould all speed it up.”

“Now that’s the spirit!” Mina smiles. She gazes to the side to check up on the other two.

Uraraka and Sero are preparing Momo’s desk, the final one. Todoroki stares at his phone, bored, and Satou snacks on a chocolate bar.

“Okay, we’re done with this one. Your turn, Mina,” Sero informs her, and she nods, scurrying back to her seat, while Uraraka and Sero follow in quick succession to help her.

A few more minutes, and Sero and Uraraka are both ready as well.

Now all they have to do is wait.

The entirety of Class 1-A linger in anticipation as they wait for the last minute before class begins to pass.

There’s a shuffling sound outside the door, and Aizawa pulls on the handle, striding inside the room.

Nobody says a word, going along with the plan, but there are some muffled giggles from some of the students.

Aizawa stops abruptly to stare at them.

He keeps staring.

For a full minute straight, that’s all he does.

And then—

—And then he climbs onto his podium, extends his capture scarf—

“—Alright, let’s start our lesson,” he states, without missing a beat, all while hanging upside down from the ceiling.

Notes:

I have a ton of drafts (including this one) on my Google docs from last year, so I'll be looking them over and posting them these next few days!
