So What'd I Miss?

Summary:

“You’ve been missing for a year, I- we thought you were dead, nobody could find you, Charles couldn’t find you.”

“A year?! I knew he should’ve let Wanda do it, ‘Master of the Mystic Arts’ my ass,” Peter ranted.

Peter was only in Westview for a few weeks before they figured out how to send him back, but for the X-Men it's been a year. Of course Peter shows up on the day they've finally organised a funeral.

Work Text:

Peter walked through the portal, cheerfully waving goodbye before it closed, leaving him alone in front of the school. He sped into the mansion, happy to be back in his own universe and eager to see his friends again.

Where is everyone?

Peter expected to have to dodge students in the hallways, as per usual, but there was nobody to dodge, even the dorm rooms and offices were empty. He ran outside, almost doing a lap around the school and starting to get worried, when he finally saw a group of people gathered in the garden. Relieved to recognise them as the X-Men, he dropped out of superspeed to approach.

Scott cleared his throat as he stepped up to the podium.

“Peter was a great friend, an okay roommate, once you got used to him, and a...” Scott looked up, his eyes widening in shock behind the visor, “...son of a bitch -”

“Scott!” Charles scolded.

Erik frowned, rapidly becoming angry at the apparent insult.

“No, I don't- I mean- just- look!” Scott gestured wildly at something behind the gathering.

Erik turned around and froze, seeing-

It can’t be-

How-

No, he’s gone , my family is gone-

“Hey guys, what’s up?” Peter meandered closer to the group, pausing as he noticed what they were wearing and that several of them were crying. “Oh no, did someone die?”

My son.

Erik choked out a strangled noise, and in the next moment everything was torn out of his way, the metal chairs he’d carefully set up earlier thrown to the side, their occupants shouting and crashing ungracefully to the ground. Erik paid them no mind as he strode up to his son (my son who’s finally back here with me) and gathered him into his arms, sobbing silently as reality set in.

Pietro .”

Peter barely had a second to process that Erik knew his real name ( and that must mean he knows he’s my father and how does he know and Magneto is hugging me does this mean he’s happy I’m his son ) before Kurt barrelled into them both, having teleported out of the mess of chairs and limbs.

“Peter, you’re back!” Kurt yelled in Peter’s ear.

“Whoah, I was only gone for a few weeks,” Peter said. He didn’t really expect them to even notice he was gone, let alone care.

Erik pulled back, staring, “you’ve been missing for a year , I- we thought you were dead , nobody could find you, Charles couldn’t find you.”

“A year ?! I knew he should’ve let Wanda do it, ‘Master of the Mystic Arts’ my ass,” Peter ranted.

Erik and Kurt exchanged a baffled look but before they could ask the rest of the X-Men finally caught up, Hank and Raven helping Charles through the debris.

“Only you would interrupt your own funeral.” Charles chuckled.

“We missed you so much,” Ororo said, Jean nodding in agreement as they both joined Kurt and Erik in smothering him.

“It took me three days to write that eulogy!” Scott pretended to be outraged, but couldn’t contain his laughter as he leapt into the group hug.

Peter grinned. “So what’d I miss?”

I’m home.
