Work Text:

Life before a family was complicated, and not to say it’s any less with more responsibilities now, but both Tubbo and Ranboo would agree it was for the better they were wed (even if for the ludicrous reasoning of avoiding taxes.) They had a family, and a family that actually lasted compared to the angsty relationships everyone else ended up with. They found themselves lucky. Anyone could die any day but they weren’t worried, they were prepared. For the first time in what felt like forever for the two teens, they felt at peace with what they had.

The mansion would be completed soon enough, and the excitement of hearing Micheal’s tiny hooves pitter patter around the wooden floors every day was uncontainable. Ranboo could finally start giving him an education, and teach him about the history of the server and how to stay out of conflict, as well as more english. Tubbo really just wanted to care for the bee farm and dance to Cash-Cash Money Bags in the ballroom. Of course he cared for Micheal’s well being, but Ranboo was much more protective over him than Tubbo was.

Ranboo would be gone for days at a time, but every time he returned to Snowchester he had a special something to give to Micheal. This time around he was a bit nervous how Micheal may react to his gift, but he was optimistic regardless. Ranboo entered the cabin and quietly closed the door, hoping to surprise him. He climbed the ladder and opened the trap door, peeking in the room to see Micheal sitting at his window, waiting.

“Hi Micheal,” Ranboo said in his soft voice reserved just for him. Micheal ran over and immediately latched onto his right leg, burying his head as he held on tight. Ranboo bent down and patted his head.

“Sorry I was gone so long bud, I got busy. I brought you a present! When Tubbo comes home I can show it to you, okay?” Micheal nodded his head and ran back to the window, then over to his small table. There were papers scattered everywhere and crayons all over the floor, as well as paint covering the surrounding wall. His overalls were a burst of color, it would take a bit of scrubbing to get all of it out. He grabbed a random handful of papers and ran back to Ranboo’s side, reaching up as high as he could to hand them to him.

“Aw, what’s this?” Ranboo took them from him and looked through the various colored drawings. Mainly scribbles, but some were coherent, like what looked to be the two of them and Tubbo together around snowy plains.

“Is that us?” He pointed to the figures. Micheal nodded.

“These are really great, I’ll make sure we hang them up all over Snowchester, the mansion too,” He smiled down at his son. He smiled back. After a moment Tubbo came up the ladder to join them, and they looked through Micheal’s doodles for a bit. Every page they flipped through was another articulated mess of an artwork. Ranboo almost forgot all about his surprise when he noticed the sun was starting to set.

“Oh shoot, I need to show Micheal his surprise! Tubbo, can we let him sit on the front porch? It’ll just be for a few minutes, ten minutes max,” He assured.

“I don’t know, he’s safer up here. Why does he need to go outside anyways?”

“Trust me, he needs some fresh air and it would be better to show him out there. You can hold him if that’ll keep you sane.”

“Alright,” He hesitated, “I’ll get him down the ladder.”

Ranboo went down first and patiently waited for them on the porch. Tubbo came outside with Micheal shortly after, and sat down on the top step with Micheal secure in his lap. The golden glow of the setting sun beamed on them through the trees. Micheal looked around with both curiosity and slight fear, as he’d not been outside the cabin in a long time. Ranboo picked up on it, and went straight into what they were there to do.

He grabbed his attention, “Micheal, look at me.” His head whipped around to face him. “Ready for the surprise?” Micheal had forgotten all about it, and started nodding his head in excitement. Ranboo pulled a small purple bottle out of his suit, untwisted the cap, and pulled out a stick with two small holes in it. Micheal tilted his head with confusion.

“This, Micheal, is a wand. And these, are bubbles.” Ranboo positioned the bubble wand in front of his mouth and gently blew air through the holes. Shining bubbles flew out the other end and elegantly floated through the air. Micheal’s eyes lit up in fascination. Ranboo smiled at his wonder and kept blowing bubbles until a crowd of them were present.

“What do you think?” Tubbo looked down at him and asked. A few bubbles came closer in their direction and Micheal’s instinct was to try backing up or moving away. “It’s okay Micheal, they won’t hurt you,” Tubbo laughed. Micheal looked up at him then back at the bubbles, and reached his hand out to touch one. The second he made contact it disappeared, and he grinned. He looked back up to see mountains of bubbles surrounding them and started giggling happily. He reached his hands out to pop as many as he could. Micheal’s laughter filled the silence of the now darkened atmosphere. The sun had almost completely set by now and the moon was just coming over the horizon.

Ranboo stopped blowing bubbles and put away the bottle for another day. The parents watched in awe of their son's uncontainable joy in such a small thing. The short-lived phenomenon was coming to a close, the remainder of the bubbles popping or being carried away in small wind gusts.

“Was that fun? Did you like it? Ranboo met Micheal at eye level once he started to calm down. He grinned widely and reached his hands out to him. Ranboo took Micheal from Tubbo and held him on his hip. “I’m glad you liked it, we can do it again another day, hm? Time for bed now, it’s late,” He proceeded to take him inside and up the ladder to his room. Tubbo smiled at the two of them as they walked off and felt luckier than ever.
