Work Text:
Techno laughed as they spared, saying something along the lines of “Blood for the Blood God”. Tommy held back a smirk. If only Techno knew… Of course, only one person knew, Tubbo. After thousands of years of life, hundreds of lifetimes that he’d lived through, Tommy had never met anyone like Tubbo.
“That’s checkmate, Tubbo.”
Wilbur’s voice cut off his train of thought, drawing his attention to Techno towering over Tubbo. Tubbo was kind, that was obvious, but his sword-skills needed a bit of work…
“Techno, how are you so good at fighting?”
“I mean, I say ‘Blood for the Blood God’, how else?”
“So you’re a god?”
Tommy finally decided he should interject. Oh, he wanted to see Techno explain this so much.
“I’m not a god, no, I’m nowhere near that. I was just blessed by the ‘Blood God’, the god of war, back in the AE times, that’s all.”
Tommy remembered that. He remembers seeing Phil and Techno start up their country, the wars they fought to keep it, blessing Techno because, of course, he favored the pink-haired man. He remembers Wilbur joining them, and remembers when he showed up at their front door, wanting a closer look. He remembers the day he grew past his godhood, and the day he found a family.
“So, would you say you’re as strong as a god, Techno?”
This was Wilbur asking. God, Tommy wanted to laugh so bad! Techno got so nervous at that question, the others might have not picked it up, but he saw the way Techno’s back straightened a bit before he answered, “No, I’m not a god and I could never beat one in battle, at least, not if they fought with the intent to kill.”
Now THAT wording caught him off-guard. Techno really thought he could beat a god without them needing to go in for the kill? Fine, he’d show him…
“Well, Mr. Blade, how about we spar? See if that blessing really is all that good?”
“Tommy, we just sparred an hour ago, are you sure–”
“–I’m sure. Unless you’re gonna be a pussy ‘bout it?”
That was all he needed for Techno to throw him a wooden training sword, a glint in his eyes. Oh, this was gonna be fun.
“TOMMY!”
Wilbur yelled out to him as their older brother came in for an attack, which Tommy managed to duck under at the last second.
“Come on Techno, show me what you really got, Big Man.”
Techno huffed at that, but the swings of his sword held a bit more power to them. If they could only hit, they’d hurt a mortal like hell. Tommy dodged and weaved, parrying any attack he couldn’t dodged, and landed a solid hit on Techno’s shoulder. He wasn’t even using enough power for it to be noticeable, yet he was toe-to-toe with Technoblade.
Wilbur and Tubbo just watched from afar, Wilbur with complete confusion and awe, and tubbo with copious amounts of excitement. He’d never seen Tommy even slightly go all-out ever.
“Come on Techno, land a hit already bitch-boy. This is gonna keep going on for hours–”
Techno’s power went loose. It was overwhelming for Tubbo, who had never seen Techno go all out, and while Wilbur stumbled back a bit from the sheer power, Tommy barely moved. He allowed for a bit more power to slip out of him, not noticeable enough for anyone to really notice, but enough to have a bit more fun.
How did Tommy not even falter? was the only question that rang through Techno’s head. He just unleashed all his power, something that Tommy never experienced, since he only ever used it fighting for the Antarctic Empire. No one but Phil, Wilbur, and his enemies (not that they were anywhere near here) knew what his power felt like–
Pain. A wooden sword slammed into his shoulder blade as he was lost in thoughts, dodging Tommy’s attacks. He felt a trickle of power that seemed way too familiar as he looked up to see what almost looked like pride? in Tommy’s eyes as he held the sword to his throat.
“I don’t know ‘Blade, maybe you’re just a big pussy afterall.”
The blonde laughed at him, a mix between a cackle and a hearty prideful laugh. Why was Tommy so proud all of a sudden? Was it because he caught Techno off guard? Maybe Tommy was blessed too, that’d explain why he felt a familiar power from him, but it made no sense. If Tommy had been blessed, he’d have bragged about it every waking moment.
He was already laughing and bragging to Wilbur and Tubbo about his win, but there was a difference in how the two who weren’t fighting reacted. Wilbur was bombarding him with questions of how he was able to even stand up to Techno’s full power for that long, much less beat him. Tubbo looked in awe, as if Tommy was a surprise party that he already knew about, but finally saw everyone there for. Knowing, yet still completely shell-shocked.
How would Tubbo know that Tommy could beat him unless....
“No way…”
“I’d guess you put the pieces together, huh?”
Tommy was smiling, still cackling as he extended a hand to Techno, a mischievous glint in his eyes. Of course Tommy was blessed–
“You’d think a guy would recognize the god who blessed him.”
“HUH?”
Tubbo fell over laughing, completely red in the face, to which Tommy looked between him and Technoblade.
“Wait, Techno did you not think–”
“YOU’RE A GOD?!”
Techno and Wilbur both spoke at the same time, to which Tommy joined Tubbo in on his laughing, his high-pitched cackle, tears escaping his eyes from the sheer amounts of laughter.
“TECHNOBLADE, YOU REALLY HAD NO IDEA?!”
Techno, now fully aware he was in a god’s presence whether it was Tommy or not, responded, “No sir”, only making the blonde in question laugh more.
“When you heard those voices in your head telling you where to strike when you were in a tight spot or the voice that gave you ideas for battle strategies you never once thought they sounded like me?”
To be honest, Techno tended to tune Tommy out most of the time. He loved his brother, always had, since the day he showed up at their door until now, but not once did he think the god of battle strategy and war sounded like his supposed little brother.
Wilbur was still shocked silent. His brother was a god. His brother, his little brother, and probably older than him. He started laughing a bit, the sheer pressure of the whole ordeal just completely getting to him.
“It’s safe to assume Tubbo knows?”
Tommy looked as if he was going to respond, but Tubbo did instead.
“Yeah, Tommy just kinda said one day, ‘So Big T, I’m a God’ and I just said ‘That’s pretty cool’ and that's how I found out.”
Now they were all laughing, seeing how that 100% sounded like a Tommy thing to do. As if he wouldn’t tell his best friend…..
“Does Dad know?”
Tommy nodded, explaining how he told Phil he was the one who blessed Techno and wanted to watch over him more. Phil was more than happy to take Tommy in, and he really did teach the god what it meant to have a family.
“Of course Dad knew, I’m not even surprised.”
Techno let out a lighthearted laugh, thinking back to their dad, who was still back home, watching over their empire. He probably let them leave knowing Tommy would protect them. It was comforting to say the least…
“So, you really blessed Techno?”
“Yeah, I mean, you should have seen him before he was blessed. Great form, nice strategies, well most of the time, even though those were mainly Dad’s, but he was a self-sacrificing fanatic. He’d go all out and never care for the wear-an’-tear of his body. All I did was bless him so that his body could keep up with his skill.”
That praise alone, coming from not just his patron, but Tommy himself, made Techno’s seemingly cold-heart melt. His brothers were always teasing him, but really knowing deep down he was admired to that degree only fed his ever growing ego.
“You know, next thing you’re gonna say is that someone like, I don’t know, Niki, is also a goddess of anger.”
“I mean, temper is a root of anger, so you’re not far off…”
“bruh.”
