Ashe: Whew, I'm beat...such a long day of training...oh no! I forgot that it's my turn to water the vegetables in the garden!
*fade to black*
Ashe: Oh gosh. This is gonna take forever...huh? Bernadetta's there...she's doing the watering?
Bernadetta: *humming* La-diddle-la-dee-da....
Ashe: Hey! Thank you, Bernadetta!
Bernadetta: *gasps* Ah! I'm caught! I'm seized! I'm taken! It's all over for me! Goddess save my soul--!
Ashe: What? Who--? No, no! Wait, I just wanted to thank you!
Bernadetta: ...what? Thank...me?
Ashe: Yeah, I'm sorry! It was my turn to water the plants today...but I got so caught up with training...
Bernadetta: Oh no--! You're mad I took your turn, aren't you? Don't hit me! Or at least...be gentle with your blows!
Ashe: What? No! Bernadetta, I would never do that! You're such a kind person!
Bernadetta: Me? Kind?
Ashe: Yeah! You did my chore for me, without even asking. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. It's my fault for making a noble like you do more work...
Bernadetta: ...n-no, that's not it! I just saw the plants were thirsty, is all...I could hear their mournful little cries of "Water, water! Please, save me!"
Ashe: Hehe, that's true...plants need people like us to take care of them, right? If we don't, they wither up pretty quickly. Do you think maybe I should apologize to them, for being so forgetful?
Bernadetta: Um...yeah. They'd probably like that. Are you friends with the plants too, Ashe?
Ashe: Uhm...yeah, I think. I mean, they're interesting. And some of them are so delicious or useful! But...it's getting late. I'm sorry for being a bother, Bernadetta. I promise I'll pay you back for doing my chore for me, with interest!
*Ashe dashes off and leaves*
Bernadetta: ...pay...me back? Oh no! Oh no oh no! He's going off to plot his revenge, isn't he?

Bernadetta: ..finally! After a long day of being forced to put up the world, Bernie returns to her Sanctuary! Safe and sound...
*knock on door*
Bernadetta: Oh no! Who's that? They're here! Finally! They're here to get me!
Ashe: *muffled* Uh...Bernadetta-? It's me, Ashe! I've brought something for you! To thank you!
Bernadetta: Ashe? Oh no! That nice commoner boy...! He should just stay away! I don't want anything bad to happen to him, too...
Ashe: *muffled* Bernadetta? Uh, I know you're in there...
Bernadetta: Ashe! You should just...go away! Please! I can't see anyone right now! It's for your own good!
Ashe: *outside the door* What? Oh, I'm sorry! You're probably doing...noble stuff. Ok, I'll just leave the basket here! But please open the door and get it! I don't want anyone taking your things!
Bernadetta: *inside* Uh...what things? What for--?
Ashe: *outside* Um...I guess they're...presents! For helping me, the other day! I just wanted to thank you for helping me, so I asked people what sort of things you liked, and then shopped a bit in town. Anyway, all of this is yours, but I'd like to give it to you, just to see if you like them...
Bernadetta: *inside* Oh...Presents? For me? Um...wow. Okay. Let me unbar the door...
*inside Bernadetta's room, after five unlocking noises*
Ashe: You see? I got you a sewing kit, a book, some paint colors, and this cute little plant in this neat pot! I know it's not much, but it was the best I could do...
Bernadetta: *eyes shining* Presents...you got me presents! That's so nice, Ashe! I never got presents while I was growing up...
Ashe: I'm happy you like them, Bernadetta...wait? What? You never got presents? A noble like you? But what about your parents?
Bernadetta: Oh no! My father...he wouldn't allow it. Said I didn't do anything to deserve them, and mother agreed. Before coming here, nobody had ever given me a present...so I had to learn how to make my own...
Ashe: That's...that's horrible. I'm so sorry. I thought you were used to getting gifts and tokens, because you were a noble. I thought you wouldn't even care if I got you one thing, so that's why I shopped so much trying to impress you...
Bernadetta: Well...you did! I'm...really, really impressed by you Ashe! Super duper impressed! Thank you so much!
Ashe: Ha ha! You're welcome, Bernadetta. I'm just pleased you're so happy.

*Inside Garreg Mach Cathedral*
Bernadetta: Ashe! There you are! Halt, in the name of Bernie!
Ashe: Oh! Hi, Bernadetta. What a surprise to see you out and about. Are you here to talk to me about the other day?
Berndetta: Yes! You...you covered for me, shooting arrows when I was trying to retreat! You put yourself in danger! That was reckless!
Ashe: Ha, yeah...I guess it was...but I thought it was my duty, to help you...
Bernadetta: What? Why would duty have anything to do with poor me? You can't keep covering up for me, just because I'm so bad...
Ashe: You're not! You just needed help at that moment. I mean, you're really skilled yourself...these things just happen sometimes.
Bernadetta: Does this have to do with what I did when we were students?
Ashe: What you...oh, I remember. That time you helped me and did my chore, right? Watering the plants?
Bernadetta: Yes! And ever since then...a commoner like you...you've just gone completely overboard! Getting me presents, cooking meals for me, sharing books...it's...it's just too much!
Ashe: Oh. You didn't want me to do those things? I'm sorry. I guess I was out of bounds...
Bernadetta: That's not it! I mean it's...it's just too nice! You're turning one small favor...into a lifetime! You're being too good, Ashe!
Ashe: *blushes* I'm sorry. I guess...it just has to do with how I was raised.
Bernadetta: Huh? What do you mean? Like a commoner?
Ashe: Yeah. When my parents died, it was just myself and my little brother and sister. We didn't know where we could get food, or find shelter. But sometimes, someone would take pity on us and feed us. And out of that one small favor...here I am today.
Bernadetta: Ashe...
Ashe: And then...Lord Lonato caught me stealing. He was a noble, and could have ordered my hands chopped off. But he didn't. Instead, he took pity on me, and...I'm sorry. I don't mean to go on about myself. I guess what I'm saying is that I like helping you. It's sort of me...paying all the favors I got in life forward to you.
Bernadetta: I guess I'm sorry too Ashe. I didn't mean to yell. I thought your pity was going overboard, but instead, hearing you say all that...maybe I should pay you back as well.
Ashe: Uh, you don't have to, Bernadetta. Really. I know you've already been through so much.
Bernadetta: Well...I want to! And you don't have any say in the matter, since you're my Knight!
Ashe: W-what? Your Knight?
Bernadetta: Yes! From now on, Ashe, you are officially a Knight of Bernie! So there! You're no longer a commoner, and I don't have to feel bad when you help me so much!
Ashe: Haha, ok! I see! ahem What is your command, my Lady?
Bernadetta: Let's go water the plants, Sir Ashe! Together!
Ashe: At your side, Lady Bernadetta!
Bernadetta -- The Comtesse Of Flowers ---
After the war, Bernadetta return home to Varley territory, threatening and intimidating her father with the promise that she had met a powerful Knight on her travels, and he would soon arrive to protect her. True to Bernadetta's prediction, Ashe rode up to the Varley Manor with his younger brother and sister in tow, declaring himself a loyal "Knight of Bernie." Count Varley laughed, but it was quickly cut short by an arrow from Ashe's bow that parted his thinning hair. Bernadetta only smiled and took the hand of her loyal and faithful companion. It was said that they soon married and raised a large and loving family, even after they rose to nobility, and each child they had was impressed upon the need to show love and affection to all, no matter how small the gesture. After Bernadetta inherited her father's title, Varley territory was said to be the most beautiful of all the lands in Fodlan, with blooming flowers and smiling children everywhere.
Ashe -- The Knight of Flowers --
When the war ended, Ashe found himself at loss, dealing with the aftermath of Lonato's estate in the Kingdom, until one day a note arrived with a watering can engraved upon its seal. Knowing instantly the meaning, Ashe entrusted his stepfather's estate to a faithful seneschal, and took his brother and sister on a journey south, to Imperial territory. There, Ashe sealed his legend as a loyal and faithful Knight of Fodlan as he stood down Count Varley with a single shaft from his bow. He soon took the hand of Count Varley's daughter Bernadetta in marriage, and formed a loyal following of Knights who became famous for their kindness and chivalry, no matter how small the injustice. Ashe and Bernadetta raised a loving family of children, who were taught always to nurture and cherish all plants and creatures, so that every chance of life, no matter how small, was never wasted.
