Work Text:

Sonic continuously digs himself with his bare hands into a cozy burrow from the freezing snow. He feels cold sweat forming through his messy fur. What was he thinking, having to be spotted by a mysterious figure? Possibly a human. Sonic should have never done anything stupid.

Feeling cold and exhausted, he curls into a little ball and blends into the darkness.

It’s been days since he got separated from his momma. He tried everything to get home, yet he met with disrespectful comments. As a humanoid hedgehog would, he ran and ran and cried. Though Sonic knows he’s old enough to be strong and act mature, it’s not easy. He couldn’t forget the time he cried when his bunny went missing. How embarrassing it was.

Sonic never knew how long he was out when he woke up. He took a peek out. Looks like the snow has stopped, but it got dark. His ears went down and began to whimper. He got out of the burrow and walked somewhere hopefully to his mom.

He walked for hours shivering of cold and fear. His ear flickered. He wasn’t alone. He speeds to a tree to hide. He hears wings flapping. It made a loud whoo. A predator. Sonic covers his mouth and muffs a scream.

The predator flew to a tree where he is. As it got closer, Sonic noticed a fur of blue wings, with the rest white. He begins to tear up. He left the hiding spot calling the bird.

“M-Momma! Momma, I’m down here!” Sonic cried as he waved his arms. The owl mom quickly flew towards him, hugging him.
“Oh Sonic, I was so worried, sweetie! You should have never done anything like that,” the owl said with worry.
“I know, I’m sorry,” Sonic said through his sobs. The owl could tell that he felt afraid and wanted her dearly. She couldn’t feel angry towards him.
“Shhh, you’re with me now, it’s all alright,” she said calmly. Sonic wiped his eyes and nodded. He carefully curls up into a ball as his mom carries him by her claws, flying home.
