Small Story (Draft)

Summary:

Kris and Noelle hang for a bit.

Notes:

Both characters are children as this is set before Asriel goes off to college (hell probably pre-high school). Based on depictions of how mischievous Kris was as a kid

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Kris cackled and snickered as they pulled away from Noelle’s face, their back collapsing to the ground after she shoved them. They were grinning from ear to ear, with ketchup smeared all over their hands and t-shirt while holding onto a pair of scissors. Another successfully pulled prank, they thought to themselves. The trick this time was tripping over themselves and faking a wound to the stomach. God, her face is still so shocked, it was totally worth it!

Of course their rein of joy didn’t last long, as a stray toilet paper launched itself from an unknown direction, striking them on the back of the head. Direct hit!

“Kris!” A certain teenage goat bleats, “I told you not to pull those pranks! You’re going to get the carpet dirty again!” They heard their brother say. Almost instantly, the mood was shattered. Kris pouted. The tears coming out from Noelle’s eyes were not enough to fuel their happiness anymore (not after being scolded, anyways).

Kris reluctantly sighed, seized the paper, and trudged off to the bathroom to clean up their mess. In the distance they overheard Asriel comforting the fawn, hushing her and giving her one of his warm hugs. This caused Kris to click their tongue. She’s too sensitive sometimes. It was just a joke. Why does she cry over everything? Well, it was fun while it lasted, they thought to themselves.

She originally came over to help out with Kris’s homework, something that was far too common in Kris’s opinion. Toriel absolutely insisted of her coming over, and Kris knew exactly why. Their mother saw Noelle as an opportunity for them to finally interact with someone around their age. They knew the undertones of what went on in her mother’s mind.

They decided to focus back on the task at hand: cleaning his hands. They were wiping away the condiment with the paper as opposed to washing their hands, something intentional just to tick off their parents. I’m different, thought the rebellious child, Maybe that’ll show them that they’re not just Asriel’s younger brother. They continued to hear Asriel calling down and quietly whispering a plan to the whining and sniffling deer. Kris side glanced over to the situation and could already feel the dread of having to confront the two again. Seriously, why was Noelle such a crybaby? No wonder her and Asriel got along so well.

After effectively using half the roll of paper to wipe their hands, they carelessly placed the stained toilet paper on the shelf before heading back to the living room. When they arrived, Asriel had an angry look on his face. He can never pull off anything remotely close to a fraction of mom’s death stares, especially towards dad. They appreciate the effort though, it makes the situation a lot less crummy. Although his face seemed more of a cute pout than anything intimidating or seriously threatening.

“Kris, would you like to explain to me your prank?”

Their eyes spoke for him, couplet with a smirk, I didn’t know Noelle was such a baby. Nice, they got two pouts from that.

“Kris, that’s not nice. You should apologize to her because she came all this way to help you with your homework.” Asriel placed his hands on his hips, shifting his weight to one side. Great, now he’s even acting like their mother.

Kris simply shrugged in remark. “You could’ve helped me instead.”

Haha, Asriel is now puffing his cheeks out like a fish. Funny.

“I thought it would’ve been a good opportunity for to get along with one of your neighbors...” Ugh...Now good-boy Asriel is coming out. They despise the solemn look on his face. They despise the careful and gentle tone he uses with them when he gets disappointed. With these two golden variables, it always results with Kris feeling bad about the actions they’ve done. Only a tad bit before they force themselves to shove down the clawing guilt seeping from their gut.

“I-It’s ok, Azzy...” Noel wiped the last of her tears before turning to glaring at Kris, “I was going to go now anyways.” She stomped over to where her homework was laying on the ground. This definitely earned an eyebrow raise from Kris. They’re impressed.

“Wait-wait-wait-wait-!” Asriel jogged up to her before crouching down to meet her eye level. “H-how about we go to an arcade?”

“....A-An arcade?” Noelle’s eyes shimmered. Amazing. Her attitude changed at the drop of a dime.

“Yeah! Think of it as a ‘forgive-my-sibling-for-being-a-butthead-sometimes’ gift! Those are pretty common, right?” Asriel then draped his arm around Kris’s shoulder and forcefully pulled them closer, while holding a gentle smile for Noelle. “Right?”

....

“Right, Kris?”

They sighed. Unfortunately for Asriel, Kris can’t fake smiles so easily. So, their smile was comparable to them tasting a lemon for the first time. Horrendous and obviously worse looking than Asriel’s. It seemed to work however, as Noelle was seemingly more convinced. That’s was a relief. The guilt was starting to be a bother.

“Okay!” Noelle grinned with a giggle.

Cute.

“Perfect!” Asriel’s grinned. He stood up and ushered Kris over to the kitchen. “If we’re going out, you have to change that shirt. Don’t want anyone in town thinking my younger sibling is a dead zombie walking around.”

Kris stopped momentarily, tilting their head to look at Asriel. They gave him a pleading loo—

“No, I will not let you do that.” He held back a smile, “Go get changed.”

Now frowning, Kris stomped up the stairs over to their bedroom.

Notes:

This was a fun little thing I was writing on my phone but recently lost the motivation to finish/continue it. If this gets more than 10 kudos, I’ll complete it.
