Work Text:

“I’m sorry” he murmured, taking the other’s calloused hand into his. It was quiet, and oh so cold, and maybe it would be better back in limbo - who is he kidding, anything is better than back there.

“You couldn’t have known” mumbled the other, tears softly streaming down his face. God knows things weren’t supposed to turn out like this, all chaos and panic, nowhere safe to hide.

A soft sigh was heard, before the hand was pulling away from his and a soft kiss was placed upon his forehead.

“You know what happens next, right?” cautioned a soft British voice from beside him. He nodded, albeit reluctantly, knowing exactly the arrangements for this kind of scenario.

A long stretch of silence followed, both of them ready to have to say goodbye.

“I don’t want you to leave” the American sighed, and he knew the blonde next to him understood how he felt.

“I need to make sure this motherfucker pays” and it was an almost impossible dream but he would make it work, they’re sure.

“Just,” a long pause, “please be safe”

“I’ll try my best. Keep Tubbo and Ranboo safe for me, you remember where to meet?” there was a undertone of care present in the soft words that Purpled was so familiar with when taking to him.

“Of course I do, who do you take me for?”

“Sorry sorry, don’t get all sassy now, eh?”

“Listen, I know you need to go, so just go” it wasn’t like he wanted the Brit to go, but it was getting so hard to breathe with that man still out there.

“I’ll kick his ass for you sweetheart”

“I know” and there was understanding, a deep love between the two that they knew was keeping them alive.

And so they part, both heading in opposite directions, not sure if they’ll see each other tomorrow. It was scary, being so uncertain, but it was familiar for both Tommy and Purpled, so it almost felt like home.

But they’ll never be home again, not if that green bastard has any say in it.
