Work Text:
You laughed at another of Derek’s jokes as you sat around the large table. You were sitting next to Aaron, his hand in yours under the table. Derek, Savannah, JJ, Will, Garcia, Rossi and Spencer were sitting at the table with you.
The room was filled with tables of people, with other groups standing around in corners talking to each other The sound of conversation filled the air, along with soft Christmas music in the background, as twinkling lights and bright Christmas trees were sparkling throughout the room.
The annual BAU Christmas Party had been going on for nearly three hours. You had all arrived, talked, laughed, ate, and now talked and laughed some more. You guessed the night was nearly over, as it was nearly 10pm. But as the Director announced it was time to dance, you readied yourself to be up for longer than you originally thought.
Couples began to file towards the dance floor, as Aaron leaned in, whispering to you. “Wanna dance?”
You glanced over at him and he smiled, encouragingly. You smiled in return and whispered back. “I don’t think one or two will kill me.”
He smirked as he rose, taking your hand in his as you followed the others. As you fell naturally into the dance, Aaron’s hand rested softly on your waist as you swayed back and forth to the music. The room you had entered was decorated with various shimmering lights and garland draping the walls, with one large Christmas tree in the corner.
“I’m glad you came.” Aaron said suddenly.
You smiled at him, “Me too.”
This was the first Christmas party you had attended at the BAU. This year you had more incentive to go, since you were now in a relationship with Aaron. The previous year, you had not felt very festive, and decided not to go. But now, you were more than happy too.
“I’m also glad we have this time alone, I wanted to talk to you about something.”
You quirked your brow, “Bad or good?”
“Good.” He answered quickly, “At least I hope so.”
“Consider me intrigued, and all ears. What is it?”
He seemed to think over his words for a moment before he smiled softly, “Jack wanted to know if you would be spending Christmas morning with us.” You felt your heart begin to beat a little faster. “I wanted to say yes, but then I realized that I should ask you first. He wants you to be there, and I really want you too also. And I know we have not been together that long, but this will technically be our first Christmas together, I thought, maybe we should do it right. But, if you think it’s a bit too fast, I’m okay with waiting until next year.”
You shook your head and smiled. “No, I’d love to. The thought had crossed my mind but I wasn’t sure how to bring it up.”
Aaron smiled in relief. “Great. I know Jack will be excited.”
You smiled brightly. “I’m sure he’ll be even more excited when he sees the presents I’ve been hoarding at my house, that I can now put under your tree.” You chuckled slightly at Aarons expression.
“Uh oh.” He jokingly laughed, “I hope some of them are for me.”
“Only some.” You said with a smile and his only widened.
Leaning down, he pressed a quick kiss to your lips before pulling you closer to him. Chest to chest, you wrapped your arms around his neck as you continued to dance.
“I hadn’t really processed that it would be our first Christmas together. Last year I know I saw the two of you just before Christmas at Rossi’s house party, but you’re right, this is the first Christmas that feels more like…Ours.”
“It’s a special one for sure.” He said gently, “We could start our own traditions.”
“Like what?”
“I don’t know. Jack mentioned something about a fort made out of Christmas boxes and wrapping paper.”
“Ohh, fun.” You chuckled. “We can make our own stockings, or go ice skating.”
“We could go pick out a real Christmas tree.”
Your eyes lit up a little bit at this. “I’ve never had a real Christmas tree.”
“Neither have I.”
You smiled excitedly, “Just like the pumpkins at Halloween. Sounds like a new tradition to me.”
“Only if we get one, I will not be strapping more than one Christmas tree to the car.”
You pouted, “But what about a small one for Jack’s room?”
Aaron shook his head with a small laugh, “Okay. No more than two Christmas trees.”
“Ha. You’re too easy Aaron.” You teased.
“Only when it comes to you and Jack.”
You smiled happily at him, before leaning forward and lying your head onto his shoulder. Aaron smiled and pressed a kiss to your head before he pulled you a little tighter against him. You continued to dance slowly to the music, as the party began to slowly disperse. You embraced each other’s company for a few more songs before leaving the party. Your thoughts and hearts full of each other, and the new traditions you would be starting together.
