Work Text:
I knew the moment you set course for home
(our bond is meant to stretch, but not to break)
I felt your fear as though it were my own
I await thee at the appointed place.
No consort of a legend will I be
Though I may care for you, you are not mine.
In desert sands I’ll write my history
While in the stars his name is sung with thine.
I did not mean for it to come to this
You never planned to be a man enthralled
Does he know why he’s come here, what he risks?
(Fear not, belov’d, we will not let him fall)
Yet as I watch you leave, one thing I know:
You did not need to Burn to be let go.
