Y/N vibrated with excitement. They waited at their door, body fidgeting and toes tapping. Y/N checked their watch as they bit their bottom lip. Two more minutes. Y/N squealed underneath their breath as two knocks pounded on the wood in front of them.
Y/N beamed as they opened the door. Nanami stood, hands full of dahlias and daffodils. Nanami’s face flushed as he gazed over Y/N’s form. The material of their clothes clung to their fleshy middle. Y/N’s chubby cheeks popped with their smile. Nanami shook himself out of his trance and dipped his head before presenting the flowers.
“I apologize. I was working overtime,” Nanami said.
Y/N snorted, taking the bouquet.
“You’re on time,” they said.
“Yes, but not early,” Nanami insisted.
Y/N smiled as Nanami offered his arm. Y/N locked the door behind them and giggled as they were led out to the street. Nanami smiled to himself as he felt the yield Y/N’s arm gave his grip.
“I’ve made us a charcuterie board, as well as finger sandwiches. I’ve also picked out the park. It’s only a couple of blocks away,” Nanami said. Y/N tilted their head, chuckling to themselves as they noticed for the first time the picnic basket tucked away under Nanami’s arm.
“Whatever you’ve made, I’m sure it’s delicious. I’m glad you did all this for me, Nanami. I’m really thankful,” Y/N said.
“The pleasure is all mine. I was worried that you wouldn’t have said yes to me wanting to take you out,” Nanami said. Y/N blinked.
“Are you kidding? Why wouldn’t I? You’re smart and sweet and strong and you’re always on time and you’re polite, and not to mention-” Y/N’s rant was cut off by a rich chuckle. Y/N looked at Nanami. His eyes shone behind his glasses, and a small smile graced his lips.
“You’re too kind,” Nanami said. “It would seem we’ve arrived.”
Y/N grinned as they took in the park. The clear sky hugged the sun, which hung low in the air. Pink and purple clouds hung lazily in the air. Y/N smiled as Nanami set the picnic basket down and pulled out a blanket from its depths.
As the couple settled, Nanami couldn’t help but notice how the grass cradled plump legs and behind. The grass bent gently around them as they stretched out over the blanket and grass. Nanami sighed and loosened his tie as Y/N looked over at him.
“Thank you again, Nanami! This is great,” Y/N said. Nanami nodded as he unloaded the picnic basket. Smiling warmly, he held out a cracker topped with cheese in front of Y/N’s face.
“Would you mind terribly?” Nanami asked. He smiled warmly when Y/N opened their mouth.
Y/N’s eyes lit up as the food hit their tongue. Nanami studied their face, taking in their puffed cheeks and pursed lips.
“Ish goodt!” Y/N said, still trying to clear their mouth. “What is it?”
“Havarti with almond flour crackers. I made the crackers myself,” Nanami said.
“Really? That’s amazing! I can’t cook at all. You’re pretty talented, Nanami,” Y/N said. Nanami’s chest puffed slightly as he reached into the picnic basket and poured Y/N a glass of wine.
“You flatter me. If you’d like, I wouldn’t mind teaching you a few tricks I know,” Nanami said. Y/N giggled as they clinked their glass with Nanami’s.
“I’d like that. I’d like that a lot.”
Nanami smiled and sipped his wine. The two sat in silence, occasionally sharing more snacks. The sun continued to set, and slowly, fireflies started to flit to in fro in front of Y/N’s eyes.
“Oh, Nanami, look! Have you ever seen anything so pretty?” Y/N said, hands raising in the air. A firefly gently landed in their palm and lit itself up before flittering away. Nanami watched the soft light reflect from Y/N’s eyes. He smiled softly as Y/N laughed at the bugs, and he nodded as Y/N finally turned their attention to him.
“I’ve seen you. I think you’re prettier than insects, Y/N,” Nanami purred.
“Puh-lease,” Y/N said. “You’re just buttering me up.”
“I don’t butter people up. I mean what I say. You’re beautiful, if you don’t mind me saying.”
Y/N gasped, eyes wide, before grinning. Nanami reached over and closed his hand around Y/N’s soft one. He looked them in the eyes as he raised their hand to brush the back of it to his lips. Y/N face grew hot, and they leaned forward to plant a kiss on Nanami’s cheek. Y/N smiled at Nanami’s face; he tried his best to keep his usual, collected expression, but Y/N couldn’t deny the tint that dusted Nanami’s cheekbones. Slowly, Nanami rose. As he stood, he offered Y/N his hand, and Y/N graciously accepted.
“It’s getting late. Would you like me to walk you home?”
Y/N nodded.
Nanami made quick work of packing up the picnic, and Y/N bounced on their heels again as he looped his arm with theirs.
As the two walked back to Y/N’s home, Nanami made note of the dropping temperature. In one fluid movement, Nanami whipped off his jacket and wrapped it firmly around Y/N’s shoulders.
“I don’t want you getting cold,” Nanami explained. Y/N nodded, opting to kiss his cheek again in answer. Y/N nuzzled into the collar of the jacket as they walked; sandalwood, orange peel, and a hint of smoke tickled their nose, and Y/N sighed in content.
Eventually, Nanami and Y/N made their way back to Y/N’s home. Y/N unlocked their door and turned to face Nanami.
“I had a great time, Nanami! Thank you, really. I hope we can do it again soon,” Y/N said. Nanami nodded.
“I’ve enjoyed myself as well.”
Y/N giggled. They reached up, and gently, they brushed their lips against Nanami’s.
“No need to be so formal,” Y/N whispered.
Nanami tilted his head before stepping forward and kissing Y/N. Y/N squeaked in surprise, but they smiled and leaned in to deepen the kiss. When they parted, Y/N was glowing, and Nanami’s face was flushed.
“If that’s the case,” Nanami said, “Call me Kento.”
