Chapter Text

Inko watches the rest of the sports festival, Izuku must be in the crowd somewhere, watching ring side with his friends in the class box… but those injuries… his fingers… it was horrible, but UA has a decent staff to help heal him… maybe he’s sleeping it off? But as the sun dips lower and lower in the sky she can feel her stomach twist in knots as she twists a tissue in her hands… he should be home by now. She checks her phone for the time and knows the school has a phone line open until later… because of the USJ attack and they want to make sure that every student got home… it was normally a quick text from parents to make sure the child was back… but Izuku isn’t back. She bites the bullet, grabs her mobile and makes the call to UA… better safe than sorry right? He could still just be sleeping off his injuries in the infirmary, he did say that the school nurses quirk drained stamina… she nervously fumbles with the hem of her shirt as the call connects. He’ll be fine Inko, he has a quirk now and even without a quirk he’s strong and resourceful and smart! She just wishes he used his brain more than his newfound quirk… it set her on edge how he broke his bones like it was nothing…

“Hello, UA reception desk.” The female voice jolts her from her thoughts.

“Hi yes, my son, Izuku Midoriya, in class 1A never came home is he still in the infirmary?” Inko asks, twisting her shirt in her hands. Her nerves rising in her stomach, she wishes they would quieten down a little bit.

“Ah yes, I’ll patch you through to Recovery Girl.” The receptionist says, the click of a button can be heard. Hold music blasts through the speakers. The music is quite calming, she takes a deep breath and runs her hand down her shirt as she breathes out. The calming ear worm wiggling into her ear, getting deeper the longer she’s on hold.

“Hello?” An older lady says, she sounds tired, cranky and done with life. Inko can’t blame her, dealing with hurt teenagers every day must be a lot… not to mention the pros. She shakes her head; she has to talk! Right!

“Hello Ms Recovery Girl? This is Izuku Midoriya’s mother, Inko Midoriya, is he still with you?” She asks, biting her lip after she finishes her sentence. Waiting for her to answer. There’s a beat of silence and she swears she hears the older woman whisper ‘fuck’ under her breath.

“Is he not… at home?” Recovery Girl asks, sounding a little confused. Inko feels her heart nearly stop in her chest, if he’s not there then where is he?! The festival ended hours ago!

“No! He never came home, and I was wondering if his injuries were more severe and so he was kept back!” Inko says, her panic creeping into her voice. It was well earned in her opinion, her son was missing!

“One moment dear.” Recovery Girl says. More hold music. The music no longer makes her feel calm and the longer she’s on hold the more her anxiety grows in her stomach, getting bigger and bigger until it threatens to drown her and swallow her whole. That’s when the hold music stops.

“Hello.” A confused gruff male voice says.

“Eraserhead, I have Izuku Midoriya-” there’s a long-resigned sigh from the man, “ya’s mother on the phone. He never arrived home.” Recovery Girl says, her tone sounding serious. Izuku has to be okay right? He has to be! He’s all she has! Tears bead in her eyes.

“What.” Eraserhead says, sounding horrified and resigned at the same time. Inko takes a breath and blinks, wiping the tears from her eyes. She needs to keep herself together and not fall apart right now.

“Y-Yes. I thought that maybe he was still in the infirmary? His finger…” Inko whispers and trails off. Unable to full voice how painful his fingers looked, black and blue and purple. The fact he didn’t even bat an eye at the levels of pain was still playing in her mind on loop. All to help his own opponent, she doesn’t approve of the method but she’s glad he’s trying to help others. She just wishes it didn’t have to be at his own expense.

“Inko dear he left before the end of the festival.” Recovery Girl says with bone chilling sincerity. Inko feels the world spin and her breath hitch. She clutches the fabric over her shirt. As the world seems to fade out in white and there’s a high-pitched noise ringing through her ears.

No no no! Not her baby! Not her pride and joy, he’s, her boy! Her only child and she can’t lose him! He can’t be hurt! He can’t be kidnapped by villains or or being hurt by them or dying in a ditch or any other manner of horrible things people could do to him right now!

“What?” Her voice wavers as tears she thought were all spent threaten to spill out again. She can’t believe they didn’t think to mention Izuku would be coming home early! She could have put out the alarm hours ago if she had known! Her anger starts to bubble up, she should have been alerted to the fact that he decided to leave earlier!

“Miss Midoriya your son is a resilient young man, but we’ll find him.” Eraserhead says, his voice igniting her anger a little more. How can he be so casual about this! Her son is missing!

“You better or they’ll be one hell of a lawsuit coming your way.” Inko says, her voice coming out tense. There’s a pause on the other end of the line.

“You would sue UA?” Recovery Girl says sounding horrified.

“And I would fucking win. You have a duty of care towards my son! He was seriously hurt and didn’t think to notify me he was coming home early!?” Inko snaps.

“He could have notified you himself, he’s 15.” Eraserhead says.

“Don’t you fucking dare blame my son for this! His phone could have died, he could have been out of credit on his phone, and I know due to the updated policies UA is supposed to text all parents when their child leaves the campus which you failed to do. So, I can sue, and I can win and if Izuku isn’t back at our apartment in 24 hours I will rain hellfire down on UA reputation be damned!” Inko snaps down the phone.

“Understood.” Eraserhead says, his line going dead.

“Losing your head won’t help dear.” Recovery Girl says, sounding a little taken a back at the venom in Inko’s voice.

“On the contrary, I’m perfectly calm Recovery Girl.” Inko says with a smile. She’s going to get her son back, even if she has to tear apart the world to do so.
