Chapter 1: Since we were kids...

Chapter Text

<< Kuroo pov >>

“That’s cheating! You can’t do that!” I shouted at Suguru. “No it’s not! We are street racing! There are no rules! So, yes, I can use shortcuts!” Suguru smugly retorted back.

We were sitting in the park across Suguru’s house, under the cherry blossom three and playing with the cars.

“Hmpf!” I huffed and crossed my arms. “ Okay fine I cheated, let's start again and this time no shortcuts.” Suguru said. “Deal!” And we started again. And of course I won!

We were in the middle of the second race when mom stormed over to us, grabbed my hand and started pulling me towards the car - “Mom what are you doing? I don’t want to go home yet! I want to play with Suguru!” I whined and tried to get out of her hold, but she wouldn’t budge.

Dad was sitting in the car, ready to leave and Sugurus parents were at the door, all the adults were glaring at each other - “Why can’ Tetsu and I play longer?” Asked Suguru as he walked beside us.

Mom only glared at him and started walking faster. We crossed the road and she put me in the car and we drove off.

“This is not fair! I want to play with Suguru longer!” I shouted. “Stop complaining Tetsuro.” Dad said. “No, I won't stop! You just dragged me away from my best friend and you won't tell me why! So I will complain because you are cruel and the worst parents ever!” I shouted again.

“Tetsuro listen, Suguru’s parents aren’t good people and they are raising Suguru so he won’t be a good person either. So you can’t be friends with him anymore, okay?” Mom tried to explain. I fuffed but nodded. “I’m still angry you didn’t let me say goodbye to Suguru.”

Mom sighed - “When we get home you can write a letter to Suguru to say your goodbye, deal.” Mom asked. “Deal.”

<< Daishou pov >>

As Tetsuro and his parents drove away I looked at the car, which was slowly disappearing into the distance. I looked at my parents, they looked really angry.

I returned to the tree and collected all the cars before going back to the house. “Why did Tetsuro leave, and without saying goodbye?” I asked as a few teraes formed in the corners of my eyes.

Dad took toys from me and mom held my hand and guided me to the living room. “Listen Suguru, Kurro’s and we got into an argument about something, they are bad people and we are not friends anymore.” Mom said softly.

“Does that mean I can’t play with Tetsuro anymore?” I asked and mom shook her head - “Unfortunately you can’t play with Tetsuro anymore, who knows what kind of danger he will bring you in once you two grow up… And we don’t want you to play with him anymore.” Mom said.

“But I didn’t even get to say goodbye.” I complained. “You can write to him later and say goodbye there,” Said dad as he entered the room and sat on the sofa with me. I nodded - “ I want to write the letter now.” Dad nodded and handed me the paper and pen.

I wrote the letter and we sended it to Tetsuro, and a few days later I got a letter from him, he said goodbye to me too.

…I guess that means we aren’t friends anymore.

Hey Sururu,

So mom and dad told me that you are bad people and we can’t be friends anymore. But I still wanted to say goodbye because we were best friends.

<< Kuroo pov >>

“We have a practice match with Nohebi Academy this friday so I want all of you to work hard this week. Last time we lost and I don’t want that repeating.” Coach Nekomata said. “Yes sir!”

It was monday, morning practice and only 6 a.m. “Ugh, I don't want to train harder. It’s exhausting enough as it is already.” Kenma complaide beside me. “Oh come on Kenma, don’t be like that. I’m sure it won't be that bad” I Said. he rolled his eyes - “Okay everyone, let's warm up!”

Kenma and I have been best friends since middle school. We started being friends around the time Daishou and I stopped. His mom and my mom have become friends so we started spending time with each other.

At first he wasn’t interested in spending time with me and only wanted to play video games, but as the time passed he slowly opened up to me. I convinced him to try out for the volleyball club with me and we both made it on the team and on the starting line up really fast.

We practised together all the time, even though he didn’t want to sometimes. Also he made me play video games with him but I guess it was fair.

After graduating middle school we enrolled in the same highschool, Nekoma High. he didn’t want to play volleyball anymore but I somehow convinced him. And by that I mean I promised to buy him how many games he wanted, let’s just say I was left without all my pocket money. But it was worth it.

We never had any serious arguments. He was with me through thick and thin and I was there for him too. Our friendship grew strong over the years.

He is my best friend and I hope it will stay like that forever.

I wasn’t really happy about the practice match. Not because I thought we couldn’t win, we definitely could, but because Daishou goes to Nohebi, and Like me he is the volleyball captain.

Mom and dad told me about their fight with Daishou’s parent’s when I was around 11 or 12. And I started hating his parents for it. In the story they sounded horrible so Why wouldn’t I? I didn’t hate daishou though, he never hurted me, until highschool.

We mwt again in hisgschool, and he was a total jer and fuck boy. I hated his personality and he would always insult me and stuff like that and naturally I fought back. So we started hating each other.

Well I don't hate him, but I acted like that. I may have or haven’t had a little crush on him since I first saw him again.

But no one can blame me! I mean he is hot as fuck! He is tall, and masculan. And his beautiful green-ish hair that would sway in the wind and sometimes fall over his eyes. And don't get me started on his eyes. They were beautiful green colour and you'd shine every time he did a successful block or spike or receive.

I just couldn’t help myself to look at him all the time.

The only person who knew about my crush on Daishou, and the only person who knew I was bi, was Kenma. He newer judged me and always listened to me everytime I ranted to him about my filings.

I didn’t dare tell my parents that I was bi. They are really homofobic and they would probably kick me out if they knew, and I was even more scared to tell them I like Daishou.

  Friday

The day I dreaded all week had come. We had to go to morning practice and then classes since the practice match is in the afternoon.

Mom and dad weren’t thrilled about the match but they knew Daishou and I hated each other so they didn’t make any fuss about it.

Kenma reassured me that everything will be okay.

I often go to his house after matches with Nohebi and cry on henmas shoulder since Daishou's insults really hurt.

I waited at the front gates with the coach because my duty as a captain is to greet other themes when they come to our school and lead them to the gym. And everyone else was setting up the gym.

I was leaning on the gates and looking at the road, anxiously waiting for the Nohebi bus. On the outside I looked stoic, almost bored but on the inside I was panicking and mentaly preparing myself for all the insults Daishou would throw at me. And comebacks of course, I can’t look weak.

“Here they are.” I looked up and saw a bus parking in front of the gates, and soon the Nohebi team stepped out. Coaches greeted each other with handshakes while I got - “Hey rooster head, ready to lose again!” It was Daishou who said it, of course. “We won’t lose, snake, it was a one time thing.” I replied confidently.

“With your weak blocking and spiking I think we have a pretty good chance of winning.” He said back. I only rolled my eyes and escorted them to the changing room and went back to the gym.

Since they have been here before they know the way to the gym.

“They arrived, start warming up.” Everyone nodded and split into pairs and helped each other warming up.

As we finished around 10 minutes later Nohebi entered the gym. Everyone got onto their positions onto the cort and whistle blew.

Match ended and we won. But it was a tough game and we won only by one point. Both teams were exhausted and sitting by the gym walls, just resting and drinking water. I was sitting beside Kenma when Daishou walked up to us.

I was expecting him to insult me, say something like we were just lucky and that way we won or something like that.

But oh how very wrong I was. “Hey Kenma, I was wondering if you wanted to go out with me this weekend?” My eyes widened and I looked at Kenma.

He looked at me And smirked before turning his head towards Daishou. I expected Kenma to turn Daishou down since he knew I liked Daishou, for years - “I would love to.”

I just sat there speechless as they exchanged numbers. I wanted to bawl my eyes out. My ‘best friend’ just agreed to go on a date with my crush.
