Chapter Text
"Eve, are you sure about this?"
Seriously? Klein was such a worrywart at times, "Don't worry, I'll continue to help pay off the mortgage you guys are paying for this café. After all, I've never lost a single match of golf."
Her worried expression wasn't wavering, but Eve figured the results might change that, "Well then, I'm off."
She walked out of the cafe, and made her way over to the arena that the rich guy had bought due to his obsession with beating Eve, or rather, seeing her defeated. Eve always wondered if that guy saw him as some kind of...rival or something.
"I know you think you can win no matter what Mrs."I'm so good at golf", but can you beat THIS."
And in front of her was yet another girl who was probably paid to play for this dude. Whatever, it didn't really matter.
She'd crush them. No one could last against the rainbow.
"H-hi, my name is Dai Yamaguchi"
"The name's Eve. Let's get to it."
It was a quick game, just one hole. Perfect, she could go home after this with plenty of time to do actual training. The girl started with a rather weak start, only pushing the ball to around 100 km closer to the hole. Seriously? When the green was straight ahead? How weak. All this needed was brute strength. Eve had nothing if not that.
"DIRECT STRIKE: BLUE BULLET"
A hole in one, not so bad if she dares say so herself. She looks at the rich guy, unable to hold back a smirk, “The money, please.”
The rich guy’s face contorts into many shades of anger she could never hope to understand in their entirety. That didn’t change their hilarity, “Why…you mongrel! I’ll beat you one day and don’t you forget it!”
She gave him a quick smile, “Got it, rich guy. Bye!” Lily followed close behind her, gloating about how Eve won the match, but Eve wasn’t in the mood today. She felt like no golfer, she felt like a girl hitting a stick. If she could even just…chat with Aoi one more time…
That girl was just such a blessing to golf, nay, the world. Her smile could probably cure cancer. Her laugh could revive the dead. If Eve could…if she could dare hope for one thing in the world…
No, no she had to keep her cool. She already had more than she could dare to ask for. She already had Lily and Klein and the orphanage to love and be loved bye. To risk it all…she should just be happy with the memories Aoi has given her, that she can treasure for a lifetime.
She barely realized she was back in front of the café until she smelt today’s pumpkin bread. Seemed to be made with extra spice this time.
She entered the cafe, greeted with the same rickety windows and freshly polished tables and chairs. “I got enough for this month’s mortgage. So long as you can continue to finance our food with the café profits, it looks like we live another month in luxury. Seems we never have to worry a month since getting this place.”
Lily jumped up and down with joy, but Klein continued to look astance. “I’m sorry, Eve. All this time i’ve been trying to give you some aid, but you still have to do so much for us…after everything I’m still-”
Eve was having none of that, “Hey, Klein you single handedly started a whole business that is growing by the day. I still remember when it was just you selling some brownies to neighbors next door for real cheap. You managed to get us a whole place that’s real nice and not in any funky place, and I’ll be damned to see it go down if I can help it. Klein, I cannot thank you enough either.”
Klein’s voice grew shaky, and soon Eve found herself in Kleins arms, sobs covering her shirt.
“I-I’m sorry just…thank you Eve.”
Eve couldn’t help but laugh a little, “Really Klein…you get worked up over the weirdest things.”
Yeah…this life was enough for Eve. A café with actual beds and a safe school nearby for the kids, enough money to be able to have enough food to need a fridge, this life was already more than she could’ve ever hoped for.
As if to tempt her, as if to try to test her, right then and there Aoi Amawashi herself enters the establishment.
“Hello, I’d like some pumpkin bread please!”
Klein quickly wiped herself off, turning on her customer service smile, “Why of course!! Let me go get it packed for you!” Eve was still lost in reverie.
No…there’s no way that’s really Aoi. Did she…did she really come over here? How did she find this place? And why does she dare hope for somethi-
“Hey Eve, you there? You seem a little out of it.”
Eve flushed uncontrollably, “I’m fine, really, just tired. How have you been, Aoi?”
Aoi pouted, cheeks puffing out, begging to be squeezed, “I’ve missed you a whole lot, you know. I haven’t seen you in so long.” She bent over the counter to hug Eve, and the terrible, absolutely perverted Eve found herself looking at Aoi’s curves.
She…these kinds of thoughts were too much. What would Aoi think of her? Forcing her eyes up, she decides to continue talking, “I’ve missed you too, Aoi. I really want to play golf again with you.” She barely registered her own arms being put along Aoi’s curves before she felt her waist.
Seriously if Eve were a guy she’d have gone crazy by now…
Aoi giggled, and let go, “Well, I’ll have you know that I actually had plans to go to the golf course later today, after I’m done shopping around here. Why don’t you come with me?”
Eve shouldn’t accept. Connecting with this girl from Japan, that was bound to be complicated and it was bound to turn her life in a twisted manner…but…
But she wanted to, because Aoi was…a dear friend. Probably the dearest friend she could ever hope for. She didn’t know if the word “friend” was enough to describe her feelings but she hadn’t any other words…any other proper words to use.
“Aoi, I would love to.”
She beamed, and took her pumpkin bread from Klein, “Well, see you at 7pm. You better not be late again, you liar~”
Klein sighed, “Eve, you didn’t tell me about your girlfriend?”
Eve felt her voice go into a shrill, “Wha-What do you mean girlfriend, I’m not li-like gay. Aoi is a spe-special person!”
Klein gave her a look, “You know what…I’m not having this conversation today. I’m going to take care of the shop, you go train or whatever. Think about Aoi or something.”
Eve…Eve was most certainly not going to do that the whole time! She was just going to train like a normal person!
