Work Text:

Shouta was hiding.

His owner, Nemuri was particularly hard to deal with on rainy days and Shouta was not in the mood for her. She often sought him out because of how warm he is, fluffy and radiating warmth like a heater. But today was just one of those "don't bother me" days. The Norwegian forest cat was sitting on his pet bed that he'd dragged under his owners desk in the office. Camping out until the rain and cold were gone.

His mate, Hizashi, was no help either. The yellow Siberian cat loved to wander outside or go hunting and rainy days stopped him from doing so. With no outlet for his energy Hizashi also became unbearable in the rain. Zooming around the house, kicking into things and constantly wanting to play. For the lazy and often seen napping Shouta, playing was not something he liked to do. So he was hiding from his mate as well, not wanting to help quell the ball of energy that he would be. It was up to Nemuri to deal with him now.

The only occupant of the small apartment who Shouta had yet to see today was Izuku. The little green haired, ragdoll kit was the newest addition to the family. Bright, bubbly and also full of energy as most kits are but he was also quiet and shy. Preferring to sit with Shouta and not worry about making conversation.

Izuku was adopted from a shelter, a young little kit who had barely opened his eyes and ears before Nemuri found him. Shouta and Hizashi easily accepted the little kit into their life and became his parents. He smelled of milk and like home. He was perfect. But they hadn't had him for long, they loved him but Izuku was still getting used to being loved. It was rough and disheartening but he was improving as time went on. But they had never had an indoor day with him yet so it would be interesting to see how he reacted.

Speak of the devil and they shall appear, Shouta heard the soft and clumsy pitter patter of tiny feet. And soon the green mop that was Izuku came stumbling into the office and slowly looked around. His eyes landed on Shouta as he slowly moved further into the room until he was just on the edge of the pet bed. He looked distressed, tail flicking in agitation and small green ears swiveling around. His eyes never stayed in one spot and always avoided making direct eye contact with the adult cat.

"What's wrong, Kit?"

There was no answer until a tiny, shaky voice spoke up.

"Too loud"

"What's too loud?"

"Zashi too loud, N-nemuri too loud, rain to-o loud. Hurts"

Hurts? Why would the noise hurt? Sure Zashi and Nemuri could be annoyingly loud but never to the point of hurting. A little flick from Izuku's tiny ears made the puzzle pieces connect. Izuku's ears had only opened a small while ago, his ears were sensitive and not used to all the noise.

The rain battering on the windows,  Zashi yowling, Nemuri watching the tv, it was overloading his senses. Izuku shuddered as the rain started coming down harder. There was that as well; Izuku was still a kit. He may have fluffy fur but he was small and young, he was cold. As another shudder, that Shouta now recognized as a shiver, wracked his body he came to a decision.

Moving a bit back in the pet bed and lifting his paw, Shouta beconed Izuku over.

"Come here kit, you'll be warmer with me."

Izuku hesitated, clearly not wanting to invade the cat's personal bubble which was illogical cause he obviously entered the room for that reason. But a loud crash from the TV was all it took for Izuku to clumsily scramble into the pet bed and under Shouta's fur. Laying his paw over the shivering kit and moving a bit closer, Shouta let his body heat warm up the kit. And Izuku soaked it up, even attempting his own sputtering pur, fighting with himself to be quiet or do what's natural.

The poor kit was found with no parents in an animal shelter, he wasn't use to parental affection like this. Shouta couldn't ignore his own instincts and began licking the top of Izuku's head. Not so much grooming but calming Izuku down, while still purring.

"It's ok kit, it's ok. Don't fight it, you can be yourself here. It's ok"

And with those small words Izuku's purring kicked into overdrive. The calm grooming, the warm body and fluffy body of Shouta able to drown out most sounds all helped Izuku. He felt less overwhelmed, less like a burden and more like a family member. His purring was small and cute but still stuttering, unsure, but it was progress. He turned his head into Shouta's chest, listening to his heart and the vibrations of Shouta's strong and calming pur. Izuku was in heaven and his little body was finally relaxing.

"It's ok kit, sleep. Everything will be ok"

Slowly but surely, Izuku drifted into dreamland and once settled, Shouta found himself adjusting himself and slowly closing his eyes. A nap sounded great right now. With the rain a background noise and a little kit to keep warm, Shouta drifted to sleep.

That's how Hizashi found them, having gotten bored of annoying Nemuri and not wanting to listen to the tv. He wanted to see his mate and find the little kit, to see if Izuku was ok. Maybe Izuku would want to play?

He set off to search the house, entering the office and finding his mate and the kit in a napping pile. Not wanting to disturb the two but knowing Nemuri would come looking for all three cats, Hizashi sat just outside the room. Able to peer in and check on the dozing pair while keeping Nemuri from disturbing them. A little guard to watch over the two while they slept on through the rain.
