Chapter Text
“Welcome to your first day! Are you ready to get started?” Your new manager, Kari, greeted you.
“Yep! I’m all set and ready to learn all the things,” you replied with a small, slightly anxious laugh. Thankfully, Kari appreciated your joke and giggled at your response.
Today was your first day working in the SuperStar daycare in Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizza Plex. It was the first job you were able to land right out of college, so not entirely what you wanted to do but also not exactly the worst ever. Most of your position would be clerical work, taking care of the more administrative functions of the daycare.
“We have about…20 minutes before the kids start showing up,” Kari said, looking at her watch. “I’ll give you a quick tour of the place and introduce you to some of the staff. Then we’ll head up to my office for the day. We have a lot of trainings for you to get through before you can be on the floor. Tomorrow I should be able to start showing you the tasks of the job.” She lead you towards the daycare and started introducing you to most of the human staff.
Human staff. This place was certainly unique in that it had robot staff members. Or, wait. Animatronics? Was that the right word to use? Whatever, you can ask about that later. Apparently you were to work alongside the main Daycare Attendant who was an animatronic. Thankfully they would be the ones handling and entertaining the kids. It wasn’t that you didn’t like kids, per say, you just… okay kids weren’t always your favorite. You were skeptical about the job at first, but after receiving too many rejections or no responses, you applied anyway and here you were.
“Okay, that’s everyone up here,” Kari said, leading you to the stairs to the lower part of the daycare, “Let’s get you introduced to the Daycare Attendant and one of our usual security guards then head up to my office.”
Everyone had been pretty welcoming so far. You were a bit nervous to meet everyone but that was quickly dashed once you were introduced. It seemed as you had a good deal in common with the human staff so far. A few familiar faces from old jobs and classes, which surprised you, but a welcome surprise. Hopefully you could lean on them if you needed help. Kari had boasted about her employees being a well oiled machine and helpful to one an other.
Kari showed you the entrance that you would be using to get into the playarea of the daycare, where you would be spending most of your time. Your badge should be able to unlock the doors via the badge reader. Kari made a note to check that later once your badge was ready. She opened the big wooden doors and your jaw practically dropped in awe.
This place was huge! And so many things to do! The play structures looked like a lot of fun to wander around in. Could you fit in them? Maybe? Hopefully. Like I would get the chance to explore them, dingus. You thought to yourself, shaking away the thought. What? They looked cool and you wanted to explore! You also noticed a large ball pit at the far end of the area. A wince passed your face involuntarily, thinking about the grossness that can be ball pits. A few more glances around and you fully took in the place. You turned back to Kari.
“Pretty neat place, huh?” she chuckled, seeing your reaction.
You blush and nod, “Yeah! I wish this place was around when I was a kid.” Another awkward laugh to hopefully break the tension.
Kari smiled and gestured for you to look up at the castle balcony on the wall. “You’ll want to watch this,” she smirked and then called out, “Suuuuunnnyyyy!”
A few seconds later an animatronic appeared on the balcony. He waved at them, stretched up high and then dove into the ball pit below. You watched in awe, amazed at the performance. Maybe slightly worried for the bot’s well being? Then the animatronic emerged from the ball pit and made his way over to the two. The closer he got the more you realized just how big this guy was.
“Heeelllooooo Ms. Kari! How are you this morning?” He asked. His voice was as bright as his namesake. Warmth and comfort practically radiating off his form. Oh yeah, definitely the perfect uh. Person? For this job, you thought.
“I’m good Sunny, I’m here to introduce you to our newest member, Y/N,” she said, putting an arm around your shoulders. “They’re going to be down here to help the daycare run smoothly.”
Sun looked at you and you swear you briefly saw a look of disgust cross his face. Then a forced, polite look. “O-oh? Doesn’t it run smoothly already?” he asked, voice a bit strained.
Oh no. Already you were picking up vibes that you were not wanted here from the bot. A knot of anxiety was quickly building in your gut. So much for feeling welcomed…
Kari frowned briefly, “Sunny, you do a fantastic job of taking care of the kids. Y/N here is just going to be taking care of some of the paperwork that needs to be done for the daycare.”
Sun hummed in thought, his expression still one of distrust and distaste. He turned to you and introduced himself, “Hello there, (slightly mispronounced y/n). Nice to meet you! I’m the Daycare Attendant, but you can call me Mr. Sun.” A large, yellow hand extended towards you.
“Hel—” you started to say but Kari cut you off.
“Sun.” she said in a firm tone. “You clearly heard their name, Y/N. And they will not be addressing you the same way the kids do. That goes for Moon as well, which I know can hear me.” She crossed her arms and gave the bot a stern look, “Now, introduce yourself, again, correctly.”
The bot’s face briefly twitched and he repeated his introduction, “Sorry about that. Hello there, Y/N. Nice to meet you! I’m the Daycare Attendant, but you can call me Sun. My counter part’s name is Moon, who you will meet later during nap time.”
“That’s better.” Kari softened her expression and motioned for you to continue.
“Hello Sun, it’s a pleasure to meet you! Like Kari said, my name is Y/N but you can call me (nickname) as well.” You reached out your hand and firmly grasped his comically large hand. You made sure to give a solid, firm handshake, remembering that it makes a good impression from what you (paternal figure) advised you. Please don’t hate me.
Sun broke the handshake and nodded his head. He seemed to be growing more irritated by the minute, especially now that the manager had to correct him. You tried to shake off the fact that he wiped his hand on his pants once Kari wasn’t looking at him.
“Excellent! Okay, Y/N, let’s make our way up to my office for some training,” she said to you, clapping her hands together in excitement. She started to lead you out of the playarea but then stopped and looked back at Sun, “Oh! Sunny, Y/N is going to be with me for the first few days but then then they’re all yours. Have a FazTasic day!”
A few hours later and you felt almost brain dead from the amount of training videos you had been watching in Kari’s office. They were all necessary, and you did you best to pay attention, but it felt so incredibly draining. After the videos and their testing were done, Kari started going over policies and procedures for the Daycare. You made sure to take notes and highlight important information as you would need to reference this information daily.
“Okay, this seems like a good stopping point for today,” Kari finally said. “We made some good progress! You might actually be able to start on the floor tomorrow!” She sounded very pleased with your progress.
Once you were packed up she lead you to the main entrance to go home for the day. Along the way she made sure to introduce you to some of the Glamrocks that crossed your path. Please, Kari, let me leeavveeeee. It’s not that you didn’t have a good first day, not at all. You were just incredibly tired after everything today. Also, due to how you were received by Sun, you were a bit cautious of the other animatronics. Somehow the thought got into your brain that you had said/done something in Sun’s presence to make him dislike you, and you were worried the same would happen with the others.
“See you tomorrow, Superstar!” Kari said after you as you crossed the parking lot.
You smiled and waved back, also calling out goodbye. At least my manager likes me. That’s the most important part.
