19 BBY - Coruscant
In a sitting room overviewing the vast skyline of Coruscant, one Anakin Skywalker: General of the Republic, Jedi Knight, sat motionless. Unable to stop the tears from falling down his face.
It was at times like this that Anakin hated being a Jed. Sure it had its ups. The feeling of the force around him was freeing and all. But the nightmares that came with surely weren’t worth it. The dreams had started to become something else. Something darker.
Every night this week has brought the same nightmare.
Padmé's face twisted in agony, screaming and crying out for Anakin to help her. Her screams are then swiftly joined by a baby's cry. The baby’s cries fade away as life leaves his wife’s eyes.
Another night waking up next to his pregnant wife, panicked and drenched in sweat. Anakin was starting to loathe being a Jedi.
Why her? Why their child? Would anyone help? Would anyone understand?
Questions he knew couldn’t be asked. The council wouldn’t help, attachments being forbidden and all. Concerns over why Anakin was so worried about Padmé would be drawn up, opening a can of Bantha-Shit Anakin was not willing to deal with at that moment.
Perhaps he could try talking to Yoda? Though he always had a nasty habit of seeing through Anakin. Yoda finding out he was worried about his pregnant wife didn’t seem like something would go well.
Then Obi-wan? Where could he begin to explain to his master, his friend, his brother, that he had been hiding something like this?
“Hey Obi-wan, remember when I had some concerning dreams about my mother dying that turned out to be true? Well, I'm getting them again, this time about Senator Amidala dying in childbirth. Did I mention that it’s my child? Cause it’s my child.” Hard to tell how that one would go really.
Perhaps the Chancellor? He was always a source of wisdom for Anakin, someone Anakin trusted enough to keep this a secret. Perhaps he would talk to him about this.
Nodding to himself, Anakin looked over the dark skyline. The Chancellor could help him. Having resolved to go to Palpatine in the morning, Anakin stood to head back to bed when a warm breeze drifted over the balcony.
“No. Not this time I’m afraid, my child. You want to be understood, so you shall.”
Barely having time to register the soft voice before, the world around him was covered in blinding white light, as he fell unconscious.
0 ABY - Yavin 4
Sneaking away from the celebration downstairs was slightly harder than Luke originally thought. Everyone he bumped into tried to get him a drink or get him to re-tell how he destroyed the Death Star for the hundredth time.
However, his savior came in the form of a drunk Han throwing a punch at another pilot, starting a brawl with annoyed Chewie trying to separate them. He was able to slip away and head towards the quarters Leia had given him for the time being, with ease after that.
Entering the room, Luke flopped down onto the bed and finally allowed himself to take in all that had happened to him since Owen had brought those droids and Ben had dragged him away on a hair-brained adventure. Luke lifted himself off the bed, sliding the small boxes of belongings out from under the bed.
He carefully wrapped the medal the princess had presented him with just a few hours ago and gently placed it in his small box. Next to it sat the only other possession he had to his name. His Father’s lightsaber.
His father, his father , wasn’t some pilot from butt-fuck nowhere. But a real, actual Jedi Knight . Luke’s father was a hero. With utmost care, Luke lifted the hilt, and he traced his forefinger along its details. There was a warm energy humming from it, warm but welcoming. It brought a sense of calmness and comfort to the young man who held it.
It wasn’t the first time Luke had caught himself wishing he could have met his father. How often during his childhood had he wished for his father to return on one of the many ships he saw flying around? How often did he wish just to be held by his father?
But now he knew it to be impossible. Ben had said Vader had killed his father, and not long after, Vader had killed Ben. Leaving Tatiooni had been something Luke had always dreamed of. To go off and fight, to save the galaxy. But it cost too much. His aunt, his uncle, his friends, and Ben. Sure he had a few friends, but he had still lost his family.
He was alone.
The thought hit Luke like a punch, knocking the wind out of him as he let out a choked sob. He pulled his father’s lightsaber into his chest, clinging to it like a lifeline. Tears started to roll down his face, Luke had lost the last of his family.
No home, no one to call his own. He was now truly alone.
In the mists of his grief, Luke hardly registered the warm breeze wrapping around him in a sort of hug. Though the soft, almost caring voice wasn't hard to miss.
“ Oh little one, they aren’t lost yet ”.
Luke looked around, trying to find the source of the voice. When the room around him was drowned in a blinding white light and his mind went blank.
34 ABY - Jakku
Unkar Plutt was an utter prick, this was the third time that week he had underpaid Rey for her salvage. Trudging back to her little home, she used a drop of water to make the food she had worked all day for.
Rey rested her staff on the wall of her fallen Walker and looked up at her makeshift bed for her helmet.
Grabbing the roll of bread from the tray it grew on. Rey climbed out of her home and sat on top of the metal, now cooled as evening drew closer. She looked out over the empty desert wastes. One good thing about this planet was the view of the sun as it fell below the horizon. The double moon rise was a treat as well, bringing with it the slightly cooler temperatures and some long overdue rest from the brightness of the day.
Munching greedily on the roll, Rey placed the helmet on her head and started to imagine flying out of Jakku’s orbit on her own ship, never to come back. Or maybe her imagination would turn to her family. Them finally coming back for her and taking Rey with them this time. They were still coming back, Rey would say to herself every night before she slept.
Closing her eyes, she felt the soft breeze flow over the dunes, enjoying the warm feeling in her heart it seemed to bring with it.
“Child, it’s time you learned why you are here.”
Rey barely had time to flinch, before the sky was full of a blinding white light coursing her to pass out.
Unknown Time - Unknown Place.
Anakin woke with a start, reflexly reaching for his lightsaber as he wildly looked around the room. But he found no lightsaber, whoever had taken him had already removed his weapon.
On the floor next to him were a sleeping blonde boy and a brown-haired girl. Both looked to be around the same age. Trying to get his breathing under control, he looked around trying to get his bearings.
He only saw space. Thousands of stars scattered around an infinite space, Anakin and the others seemed to be on a platform of sorts, what was holding it up he did not know. Anakin slowly stood up and walked to the edge of the platform, looking for some sort of way down.
He heard movement behind him and turned to see the blonde kid stirring. The kid turned his head to face Anakin and opened his eyes, locking them straight on him.
For a moment no one moved.
“What the fuck?” The blonde yelled, obviously freaked out. He jumped to his feet reaching for his belt but finding it empty too. If push came to shove Anakin was sure he could take the kid, but for now, he slowly lifted his own hands.
“Hey, kid, deep breaths. I just woke up too.” The blonde started looking around the empty black space they had woken up in, spotting the girl he had been laying next to. He paled.
“Is she….” “She’s alive, just asleep like we were, I think”
The blonde nodded, looking relieved. Anakin ran a hand through his hair and let out a huff. Figuring they would be there awhile, he thought he would try and get the kid to relax.
“You got a name kid?” The Blonde stared at him for a moment before answering.
“I’m Luke. You?” Anakin smiled reassuringly.
“Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Knight.” Luke blanched.
“What!? No, you can’t be!”
“I’m pretty sure that’s my name.”
“You can’t be, that’s my dad’s name and he’s dead!”
“WHAT!”
“CAN YOU TWO SHUT IT AND TELL ME WHERE I AM!”
The two Skywalkers looked at the now awake girl. She stood in a fighting stance looking to be sizing the two men up. Before either of them could answer her, a soft white glow emitted from a side of the room. All three stood in shook as a beautifully radiant woman, with long green hair appeared next to them
“Relax children, no harm shall reach you here.” Despite the unease felt at the situation, all three did relax as the woman approached them.
“You are in the world between worlds, where time can’t touch you, where harm may not come to you. I have brought you here, as I need you all to learn before it is too late.”
Surprisingly all three of them, it was Luke who spoke first.
“Who are you?”
“I am Daughter. I represent the lighter side of the Force.”
“Why me-us?” Rey asked wearily.
“You are all connected through the Force be it, Father and Son.” She looked at the two men with a soft smile. The Skywalkers both were looking at each other in fascination, smiles slowly tugging on their lips.
“ Or a Master and his Appearance.” The Daughter looked between Luke and Rey. Rey looked ready to object when Daughter raised her hand to silence her.
“Your journey through my light has yet to start young Rey.” Rey looked on speechless as the deity turned to Luke.
“ Yours has begun and already you have lost so much, sweet Luke. ” Luke turned his head so the other wouldn’t see the tear threatening to return to his eyes. The daughter then turned to Anakin, face full of sadness and regret.
“And you Anakin, my Father’s chosen. To lose all you have and still be in my light has been hard. But now, I fear, your journey is nearing its end in my light.” Anakin gulped, remembering what Luke had shouted at him earlier.
“You all wished for something. Whether it be about answers or family. You have asked. I have watched these events play out 100 times. I now offer you all a chance to see it. To watch your immediate future, watch the long-gone past. Learn from mistakes and see the family all around you. I will bring others from your times to watch these events. Please, learn from each other, and remember, you are all family.”
