Work Text:
Aubrey slides down her room’s wall, closing her eyes for a moment before looking at the mess she just made. She let the nailed baseball bat fall down to the ground with a loud thud. Her entire body ached and burned.
Papers were sprayed around her floor, and her pillow was on the opposite side of the room. Somehow, there were mirror pieces on the ground that probably came from downstairs. Her laundry was all on the dirty floor along with her spinning chair. Her Captain Spaceboy poster had been torn apart, only the pinned parts were still intact on the wall. The portrait of Kim and her was now shattered on the ground after she compulsively threw it against a wall. Her room was destroyed, just like the rest of the house.
As much as she tried to hold it in, her eyes were already getting wet and forming water blobs. Aubrey’s breathing was so fast she couldn’t even suck any air in.
That stupid Kel. Always ruining her life. How could he even be so positive about their situation? It’s almost as if he didn’t care about Mari’s death at all! How could he be so selfish! Now he was blaming her for a mere accident with basil! He didn’t even get that much hurt, why was he caring so much about it?
Tears were now running down her cheeks as she let out faint sobs and covered her face in shame.
There was one option that could make her feel better again. And that was, calling her best friend over.
Kim always helped Aubrey in moments like this, making her feel better about stuff. Now, if only she could find her phone in the middle of the absolute mess she had created.
After looking in a few places, she finally found the piece of glass lying on the ground, its screen with a big crack in the middle after even more damage. Aubrey went through all her contacts, until she saw Kim’s. A simple message should do the deal, since she really didn’t feel like making a call right now.
“I need some help. Please.”
She sat on the ground against her wall once again, putting the phone down and staring at the ceiling as she felt her face become dry from the tears. After a while, the phone vibrated, indicating a notification. Thankfully, it was the girl’s reply.
“Where r u?”
“Home. Pls come now.”
That should do. Aubrey turned her phone off and looked around her destroyed room. At least BunBun was with Charlie today, as she agreed to take care of him, because she would never forgive herself if she did some stupid shit with him out of rage. But it was all destroyed. Even her precious portrait with Kim she got a few years ago was now shattered on the ground. Because she was a stupid teenager who had no self-control. Her room would be the same, she wouldn’t smell like cheap beer from the broken bottles downstairs, and her body wouldn’t be aching if he had some control for god’s sake. She couldn’t even go to the church in peace with people saying all kinds of mean stuff about her.
More tears started to flow around her face, not even covering it up now. No need to hide how stupid she was now. Of course she ruined everything again.
She held herself harder as loud ugly sobs came out. In impulse, she craved her teeth on her arm. Aubrey hissed from the subtle pain as she forced her teeth deeper into her skin. She was pretty sure it had started bleeding a while ago because the faint taste of metal in her mouth. Finally, she released her mouth to find a red mark where she bit, some blood leaking out of it, but not enough for it to bleed.
She needed a distraction. If she made any more, it would be impossible to cover up and the others would be worried as hell. She didn’t need that now.
The pink haired eyed the entire room, her eyes landing in a stuffed toy shaped like a bunny she had won at one of those machines. Ok, more like she broke the glass and took one to herself before telling the owner somebody had thrown a rock on it.
Aubrey walked in the direction of the false bunny, picked it up from the floor and hugged it with all her strength. The girl went back to the same position she was before, but now with the large plush in her tight embrace.
Aubrey tried to remember those breathing exercises Kim had once taught her. It was hard, but once she faintly remembered how they went she got a somewhat controlled breath while staring at the ceiling.
After a while, a bang from a door opening and quick footsteps were heard, as long with somebody going up the stairs to her so called room. Kim had arrived.
“Aubs! Are you alri-“
Kim didn’t even finish the phrase after looking around her room. When she saw Aubrey, the girl sprinted towards her.
“Oh my god, Aubs what happened here?” Kim ran a hand though her hair, but before Aubrey could answer, she was enveloped in a strong hug, which she made sure to give back almost immediately.
“Kim... I... I’m an idiot…” As much as she was trying to suck the tears back in, they weren’t obeying her. “I... I fucked up. Again.”
“Don’t say that. It’s… It’s fine. Everyone does some shit in life.” They separated for a while, Aubrey already missing the warmth of their embrace. Kim noticed the water in her cheeks, and wiped them out with her thumb. The motion made Aubrey flush as she looked to the other side. It didn’t take much time for the other to notice her arm and hands.
“My goodness Aubrey, you’re bleeding!” she took the girls hand to analyze the wounds. They were small, but some were open enough to bleed. Her own face was faintly stained with it. There was a small piece of glass attached close to her middle finger.
“Oh, that’s not good…” after some more analysis on the wound, Kim slowly started to pull out the glass, earning a loud hiss from her best friend. When it was removed from her hand, she let it fall on the wooden floor as her hand started to bleed a little more.
The girl ran downstairs for a moment, leaving Aubrey alone as she stared at her own hand, no thoughts in her head. After a moment, the girl returned upstairs with some bandages and a wet towel in her hand.
She took Aubrey’s hand and carefully started wiping the blood with a towel, pressing it against her wounds carefully, earning an occasional “ouch” every now and then. After that, she started bandaging her hand, mostly on damaged spots like her fingers or her wrist. She did the same process for the other hand, which was thankfully less hurt. After a while, she finished the job. At least the thought so, because she saw the bite mark in her arm. Kim looked at Aubrey, her eyes staring at her. Without questions, she just passed the now red-ish white towel in the spot and covered it with some more bandages.
After all of that was done, Kim looked at the girl in front of her. Dry tears were evident on her face, but this didn’t matter right now.
Kim went to her side and hugged her from there, using her spare hand to mess around with her friend’s hair. “So, what happened?” the sudden question broke the silence, making Aubrey jump in place, but after a short while she started “Kim… Im a fucking mess.” Kim was a bit surprised with the answer, but before she could reply Aubrey continued “I… I destroyed my entire house because of some silly argument with that… that… Kel… over an accident!” Her voice was starting to crack.
Kim didn’t say anything, just collecting information as she talked about how an accident leaded to the mess she was right now. After listening to Aubrey’s long rant, she finally answered in a low voice.
“Aubs… It’s- It’s fine. I can help you with your house later. I, we both know what you did was an accident. It’s going to be fine, I promise.”
Aubrey looked at her with puffy red eyes, in a look of pity as she tried to decide what to say. In the end, she just stayed silent, before surprising Kim with a tight hug. Her eyes widened, but they were quickly shut tight as both enjoyed each other’s embrace.
They stayed like this for a long time, Aubrey still felt bad but the feel of Kim’s hands on her head and on her back made her forget about everything. The scent of her perfume was another thing for distraction, making her inhale deep breaths only to get more of it.
Kim was also enjoying the touch of Aubrey’s soft hair, and her head placed on her neck was making her cheeks a light shade of red.
After a while, they both separated with a light chuckle. They stared at each other, until Kim broke the silence by taking something out of her front pocket “So uhm... I had brought some Taffy for us but... It kind of melted, haha” they both chuckled at that. “But uhm, do you still want it?” She extended her hand to offer it. Aubrey quickly grabbed it from her hand, before replying, “Of course I want it, why would I deny a taffy in any circumstances?”
They both ate in silence, discarding the plastic on Aubrey’s floor. Kim’s mouth was smeared with melted chocolate, making Aubrey laugh at her friend. “Oh my god, look at you!” she laughed as she turned around to face her. “I’ll clean it for you” she chuckled, wiping Kim’s mouth with her thumb. This motion and the proximity made the girl go red like a tomato. Once she was done, the pink haired wiped her finger on herself before getting up and cracking her fingers “So… what do ya want to do now?”
“Well, I think after that you won’t want to go to any public places,” Aubrey laughed. Kim knew her so well; it made her go a light shade of pink. “Uhm… do you wanna go to my house? We can eat cold pizza and watch sad shit on Netflix”
“Fuck yes. That would be perfect.” Kim smiled at her “But… I’m a little tired right now. Can we, uhm, just lay down in my bed for a bit?” The thought of laying down in the same small bed as her best friend made Kim flush “O-Oh. Yeah, of course Aubs. I myself am a little tired, I came here running as fast as I could and stubbed my toe on the counter while coming here so that would be… pretty good.”
Aubrey gave her a small laugh as she tried to push the bed to its original place. After a while, Kim went to help the girl, and they both got the bed in place after a few minutes. Aubrey got the covers in place as she got the pillows, and in a few minutes, it was ready.
They laid down on it, as Kim adjusted herself to be hugging Aubrey from behind, getting a view of her soft hair.
Aubrey’s face was burning at this point, but she felt comfortable and… safe in Kim’s strong arms, that were currently wrapping around her figure.
Maybe Aubrey should get going, as they had more stuff they could do for the day, and that bed made her back ache, but…
She didn’t want to be anywhere else right now. This was perfect to her, better than any movie or comfortable sofas.
Maybe those plans could wait a little more.
