Chapter 1: Introduction

Chapter Text

Atsushi could feel his blows on Teruko slowly start to diminish at a frightening pace, it wasn’t long before a floaty feeling had begun to pop up in his mind.  That was odd, as tough as a Hunting Dog may be he had barely gotten any injuries, had the Hunting Dog poisoned him? He could feel his consciousness slowly slip away, but what he hadn’t realized was that the Hunting Dog in front of him also started to sluggishly fall to the floor. The fighting suddenly ceased and both of them had dropped to the floor.

The next time Atsushi opened his eyes his surroundings were distinctly different from the airport where he woke up in a movie-like room. Blinking profusely he managed to decipher he was in a different place all together? What? Was this some sort of teleportation ability? But the only one he had ever come across was the terrorist clown’s and that man was long dead.

He quickly sat up, but that was when he put together he wasn’t alone in this room  there were  other people, some he recognized, some he didn't.

"Atsushi-kun! You're finally awake!" He recognized the voice, it was his mentor. His eyes widened for a moment. Was he hallucinating again? Or was this the real Dazai-san? Had he also been pulled into this strange room?

"Dazai-san!" Atsushi looked at him for a moment, before seeing that he wasn’t wearing his signature coat, instead a prison one. That must have meant this one was real!  With absolute certainty, Atsushi ran over to him and took him in his arms, holding him tightly against him. The older one tensed momentarily before chuckling and returning the hug wholeheartedly.

"It's been a while, hasn't it, Atsushi-kun?" Dazai said. A small smile appeared on his face as he broke the hug and ruffled Atsushi's hair. When he glanced at his mentor again he could tell that he had changed. Not in a bad way, but Dazai-san actually looked healthier? He wasn’t saying anything bad about the brunette’s physique before the Decay of the Angel incident. This change, he could tell, was for the better though. It was good to know Dazai-san had been doing well in prison.

Too caught up in his own thoughts he hadn’t even heard someone stride up to him, which was odd. His tiger senses should have caught that, "Jinko!" A familiar voice called out to him from behind.

Atsushi's eyes widened, it was- "Akutagawa!? W-What are you doing here? How did you even get here?" Was this a dream? The man before him had clearly died, he had his head chopped off for goodness sake. What sort of sick and twisted illusion was this? No, it couldn't be an illusion, he just hugged his mentor? Or was the hug with Dazai also a dream? Atsushi could feel the questions pile up upon themselves.

At that moment, Atsushi had a look at his surroundings. And what he saw confirmed his suspicions. this was definitely not a dream. There were a lot of people in the cinema. The Port Mafia, the ADA, the Hunting Dogs, some members of the Guild and even the Decay of the Angels, the terrorists they had been fighting against! But the person that had pulled them here must have been powerful to even get people as strong as Dostoevsky and the gravity manipulator from the mafia here, not to mention the fact that his mentor hadn’t been able to cancel out the ability.

"Do you know where we are, weretiger?" Akutagawa asked. He brought Atsushi back to reality.

"No, I have no idea. But how did you get here? You were gone and then you were a vampire..." He said trailing off. He really didn't want to remember what had happened on the ship. The last look Akutagwa gave him when he was on the verge of death, and his last words telling Atsushi to leave.

All of them turned their heads to look at the duo. The mentions of vampires had suddenly gotten most of the theater's attention.

"What? A vampire, how the hell is that possible?" Chuuya asked. He didn't remember anything like that. Hell, he couldn't remember anything after he got wounded on his shoulder by an enemy.

The brunette walked up to the shorter mafia detective, "You can't talk Chuuya, you were one too." Dazai replied seriously, which was unusual for such a carefree man.

“I was? All I remember was a pain in my shoulder and everything going blank…” At this Dazai winced. Hopefully he could get Chuuya back to normal after he dealt with Dostoevsky. He snuck a glance to Dos-kun who was talking with the terrorist clown who had created the game.

With all this talk of vampires and what not, very few noticed a teenage looking girl walking into the room. She had her hair back in a bun and was wearing a casual outfit consisting of jeans and a sweater. No one had expected such a citizen looking like a woman to walk in the room but once she did, all eyes were on her looking at her with hostility and curiosity. Many had concluded that was the culprit behind their sudden kidnappings. Ready to eliminate the unknown person who might have brought them there. Everyone, save for the fellow geniuses, took a fighting stance.

"Woah.” She quickly put her hands up in surrender, she should have known they’d react like this. No one, especially them, would take kindly to a kidnapping. Before she could lose her tongue to one of the mass murderers in the room she quickly spat out what she had to say, “My name is Anahita and I am the person who brought you to this beautiful room. Why? You might ask. Well, as you can see, a lot of bad things have happened in the world, so I'm giving you a chance to go over your mistakes and fix them."

"What do you mean, fix them?" Fukuzawa spoke up. Surely this girl had to have an ability, but the question was what organization did she belong too? This story was fishy no matter how you looked at it. This could be a trick of the Angels' Decay. But at the same time, some of the members looked confused. Maybe they didn't do that?

"Well, in this cinema, you can see the past and the future, so if you watch what I present to you, you will have a chance to change the future and fix your mistakes.” Everyone’s curiosity spiked, this person had to be powerful and now was giving them a chance to watch the future? The smarter ones quickly caught on to this was an opportunity to gain information that could be crucial to them.

But some, who had wanted to get back to their world and quickly were about to speak up before Anahita added, Also, time does not pass in this room, which means that when you return, everything will be the same as before," she motions her hands to a curtain which dropped, revealing a large screen.

While others looked at it cautiously, Kenji practically gaped at it, he had never seen a screen this big before! The city was really impressive!

"Of course, it's absolutely up to you if you want to stay here or not, just let me know if you want to leave, and let me remind you, your abilities don't work here and I have confiscated all your weapons.” She shrugged carelessly.

No one raised their hands. They couldn’t trust the person who brought them here, but if what she said was true then they could potentially shape their future. All of them wanted a chance to do that. Some of them wanted information to kill their rivals/colleagues, while the others wanted to make sure they could protect their organizations.

The girl practically beams, "All right! Let's start with the introductions and let me say something. The Armed Detective Agency is innocent. Before you argue with me, I have seen everything, they are innocent". She added the last part very seriously and disappeared in a flash,

Teruko suddenly burst out laughing, “Hahahaha! You really expect me to believe the woman who kidnapped me and told me that the terrorists aren’t terrorists?” But seeing how no one disagreed with that statement Teruko and Tecchou were confused. They were the only ones who had not yet figured out Fukuchi's tricks.

Jouno took that opportunity, with a sigh he approached them and started to explain the whole incident to them. It had taken Teruko awhile to be convinced, but when the commander himself hadn’t denied the statement Teruko's eyes widened, how could the commander do that to them? Even Tachihara had to add some evidence to the case while Tecchou was easier, that man believed Jouno in a heartbeat. He knew how much Jouno respected the commander, why would he ever tell a lie like that?

Everyone had remembered what Anahita had said before she left. The tension in the room grew. Everyone looked at each other, not knowing how to begin. How would you introduce yourselves to an audience full of mafia members and terrorists?

"Oooh! I'll start!" Said a clownish figure. He broke the tension. Some of the agency members recognized him and stared at him. That was the man who had created the hostage situation! They also looked shocked to know that he survived after his apparent "suicide".

"My name is Nikolai Gogol! I'm from the Decay of the Angel!" He says this without a care in the world. As if admitting to being part of a terrorist organization was a walk in the park.

"Sigma, I'm a casino owner," said a plain-looking man with a tired expression, but he had been sitting pretty close to other Decay of the Angels members, so maybe he was affiliated?

Atsushi's eyes widened, how could Sigma still be alive? He swore that he had seen the man fall from the casino.

With some prompting, the Russian beside Gogol introduced himself, "Fyodor Dostoyevsky, you all know who I am," he said in a monotone voice, clearly not interested. That earned a lot of glares from the audience. The Port Mafia and the Agency recognized him as the man behind the cannibalism incident. While The Guild members and The Hunting Dogs knew him as the wanted terrorist

"A Russian rat," Dazai muttered under his breath. He sighed: Why was Dos-kun here? Now, with a rat breathing down his neck, it would be much harder to get the information he needed. Not to mention he clearly needed a  break from staring at that man's face non stop in prison.

"Hi, I'm Aya!" said a cheerful girl with red hair. Some people looked confused as to why a child was there, while Kenji, Atsushi, and Kunikida greeted her happily.

Fukuchi, leader of the Decay of the Angel," He announced proudly, everyone glared at him ferociously, even more than they had done to Dostoevsky.

To no one’s surprise Tecchou, Tachihara and Jouno approached him and all delivered a punch to his face.

The Black Lizard was astonished, was Tachihara that angry because of the vampire disease? They hadn't expected him to go all out against the leader.

"You son of a bitch!" Jouno snarled, clearly still pissed from being murdered by this man. Some revenge tasted very sweet right about now.

"How could you!" Tecchou shouted and tried to choke him. Techou couldn't believe it, the commander he had looked up to had betrayed them in a heartbeat, sure, it hurt a bit, but his anger had blinded him.

"You may be angry with me, but you can't stop me. You tried and you all failed," Fukuchi said, trying to catch his breath. Even with his enhanced abilities, he couldn't do much against two enhanced members and without his ability.

After a while of mostly one-sided beating, Anahita cleared her throat: "All right, as much as I hate Fukuchi, we have to continue." She clapped her hands and suddenly all the wounds on him disappeared. "Continue"

"Mori Ougai, head of the port mafia," said the tall man with the ponytail. If it was possible the Agencies faces soured even further.

Dazai and Yosano scowled. Being in the same room with Mori, no matter how big it was, disgusted them.

Kouyou Ozaki, Port Mafia Executive," the elegant woman in a kimono motioned to the short ginger next to him.

"Chuuya Nakahara, Executive" Dazai in the distance snorted, which earned him a glare from said executive.

"Gin, Black Lizard," she said softly in a female voice, which surprised a few people.

"Hirotsu, Black Lizard," The older man said.

"Akutagawa, Port Mafia" He said and ended with a cough.

"Michizo Tachihara" The ginger had deliberately not added an organization. He couldn't openly admit his allegiance to the Hunt Dogs, nor could he simply admit his allegiance to the Port Mafia. Who knew how the Hunt Dogs would react? For now, his name would do.

"Higuchi, Port Mafia,"  The blonde beside Akutagawa stated.

"Fukuzawa, leader of the Armed Detective Agency," said the man with the gray hair in a green yukata. Fukuchi couldn’t stop himself from shooting a scornful glance at his old “friend”.

"Edogawa Ranpo! You all know me as the "Best Detective in the World"! Boasted the smug man munching on chips, How did he even get those? Many wondered.

"Ignore him, Yosano Akiko, doctor for the Armed Detective Agency." She said, rolling her eyes.

"Kunikida Doppo, Detective" At that Aya couldn’t help the smile burst into her features.

"You all know who I am! The one and only Dazai"! The bandaged man said with a glee that drew quite a few eyerolls from the audience and a quiet "Shut it, idiot" from the executive.

"Junichiro Tanizaki, this is my sister Naomi." He said, pointing to his sister who was hugging him quite tightly.

"Atsushi Nakijima and this is Kyouka." He mentioned the younger girl next to him.

Hello! My name is Kenji! I hope we can be friends!" Said the cute and happy boy with yellow hair.

The girl said in a monotone voice, "Lucy Maud Montgomery, former guild member.”  Her organization had brought back memories that she really didn't want to dwell on.

Everyone turned to the person sitting next to Ranpo. The man was currently trying to annoy/encourage him to say his introduction. He tried to hide his shock when he realized that all eyes were on him.

"Edgar Allan Poe, writer, and this is Karl." He said quietly, pointing to the raccoon around him.

"Teruko! Clearly the Best hunting dog!” She exclaimed, earning a huff from Jouno.

"Tecchou, hunting dog, and this is Jouno," he said, motioning the person next to him. Kunikida tensed a bit when he was mentioned.

"You know Tecchou, I can introduce myself." He said with a smile that didn't quite reach his face. It seems like his idiotic partner's attitude would never change.

Alright! Now that we're done with that, let's get started!” Anahita announced over the loudspeakers that we’re lined up against the wall of the theater.

Many took that as a queue to take a seat, The Decay of the Angel had taken the top row, The Mafia in the middle, The Guild and Aya took the ones on the sidelines and The Agency had taken the bottom one.  Once they got comfortable the lights started to dim and many began to wonder what they would be shown.
