Chapter 1: 'Pretty Flowers'

Chapter Text

Katsuki was walking to the store to get some midday Saturday snacks. He drew the short straw and his friends sent him off. He wasn’t too happy to have to go out during the cold since he was extra sensitive to it but he couldn’t not go, he lost fair and square.

‘Stupid fuckers.’ He thought as he let out a breath he could see in the cold.

It was December 5th, winter was a bit early. His least favorite season. Katsuki entered the store and started searching for the snacks his friends wanted.

‘Who the fuck likes this crap?’ He thought as he put something in his basket. He bought the things and left. On his way back, he was passing a park and saw a little girl sitting alone on the swings crying. He couldn’t leave a child not knowing if they were safe so he slowly walked over.

“Hey, kid.” He said.

The little one looked up fast, eyes puffy.

“H-hello mister.” She sniffled. She looked no older than seven.

“Are you here all alone?” He asked.

She nodded slowly.

“Where’re your parents?”

“Dada is at home, mama…is somewhere better…dada won’t tell me where that is…dada has been acting meaner tho..he was supposed to pick me up hours ago…” She sniffled.

‘Crap, most likely a drunk widow who can’t deal with a kid who most likely looks like her mother.’ Katsuki thought.

“Come here kid, I’ll take ya home.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, I’m a hero, wanna see my hero card?” He said squatting down.

“Yes! Yes!” She jumped off the swing and ran to him, sparkles in her eyes.

He pulled out his wallet and showed her his student ID and hero card. She was in awe.

“So cool! I wanna be a hero when I'm older! Think I can be one?” She smiled.

“Well…that depends…” He picked her up, placing her on his hip.

“On what?”

“If you’re strong enough and have a good quirk.”

“Why does my quirk matter?”

“Society is biased and rude. It’s harder to be a hero with a quirk that isn’t deemed powerful enough.” Katsuki said.

“Well, dada says my quirk is bad. Deadly even.”

“What is it?” Katsuki raised an eyebrow.

“I can make pretty flowers!” She beamed.

“That’s not bad, your dad must be silly.”

“Mhm! He is! Well…was…”

Katsuki bounced her and she giggled.

“What’s your name?” He asked.

“Hana!” She smiled.

He was about to ask her if she knew where she lived but someone started shouting.

“HANA!” The man shouted.

Hana held tighter onto Katsuki, he put her on his other hip, so she could hide more. He held her head close to his chest. She was terrified of this man.

“Young boy, g-*hiccup* Give me my kid!” He was drunk and angry.

“I can’t allow a drunk man to take a child. I don’t know if you know her.”

“WHAT!? THAT IS MY DAUGHTER!” He was more pissed.

“P-please…Dada scares me!” Hana cried.

“Especially when the child is obviously afraid of you. Go before I call the cops.”

“Cops? They ain’t gonna do shit!” The man laughed.

“You’re a hero! Save me!” She cried.

“A hero? You’re a hero?!” The man seemed even angrier.

“YOU KILLED MY WIFE! YOU, HEROES, CAN’T SAVE PEOPLE YOU SHOULDN’T BE A HERO!” He charged at them.

The girl cried and held tighter to Katsuki. Katsuki couldn’t use his quirk. Only protect the kid. He didn’t know the man's quirk, well for long. He quickly revealed it was telekinesis when he tried to take Hana from Katsuki, which failed.

“YOU BASTARD GIVE ME MY CHILD!” He threw Katsuki into the air.

Hana screamed and her quirk activated, unknown to Katsuki. Katsuki landed and grabbed his phone and tried calling for help.

“WATCH OUT!” Hana screamed.

Katsuki turned to see a car being flung at them. He blasted him and Hana into the air after covering her ears.

“GET BACK HERE YOU STUPID HERO!” The man used his quirk to slam Katsuki against the earth. Katsuki had thrown her into the air as he was pulled to the earth. She was screaming. He blasted the father and caught her again. He tried running but he just kept being pulled back. His phone was destroyed. Katsuki couldn’t use his explosions too much without harming Hana. He was at a disadvantage.

“GIVE ME MY DAUGHTER BEFORE YOU KILL HER TOO!”

“IF ANYONE IS GONNA KILL ANYONE IT’S GOING TO BE YOU! LOOK AT YOUR DAUGHTER! WHO IS SHE SCARED OF!? ME OR YOU!?” Katsuki shouted.

The father paused in his steps. He looked at his daughter. She was clinging to Katsuki sobbing and refused to look at him. Katsuki’s arms were wrapped around her, protecting her.

“Hana…”

“NO! N-no! Please don’t make me go with him!” Hana looked up at Katsuki.

The father dropped to his knees.

“I’m so sorry Hana…I-...I’ll get better…for you.” He sniffled.

Katsuki could tell the man was really struggling with his loss, Hana’s mother most likely was one of the lost lives in the fight that happened a few months ago. Katsuki slowly walked to him as he dialed 119. Hana held Katsuki the whole time till the cops got there. She refused to let go even then.

“No! Please don’t let me go!” She cried.

“Hey, kid. You’re safe. Your dad is gonna get better, alright? See, he’s listening to the cops.” Katsuki pointed.

The father had a sad smile on his face as he got in the cop car. Hana’s face fell.

“Where are they taking my dad? Is he gonna be okay?” She looked at him.

“Soon, he will soon, till then you’re gonna stay with someone else. Okay?”

“You? Can I stay with you?”

“No, you’ll stay with another family member or a nice family.”

“Auntie! I’m gonna stay with Auntie? She’s been helping us by taking me to school.” Hana smiled.

The cops seemed to like hearing that. No one liked putting a child with a family they didn’t know. Hana finally let Katsuki put her down.

“Thank you Dynamight! I’ll forever be your fan!” Hana giggled.

“Really? Well, you’re my first.”

“REALLY!? THEN THAT MAKES ME YOUR NUMBER ONE FAN!” She beamed.

Katsuki pulled out a marker.

“Want my first signature?”

“YES! YES!” She jumped up and down.

He chuckled and signed her orange jacket. She hugged him one more time before she ran off. Katsuki stood up. Told the officers what happened, and got bandaged. His back was throbbing. He then went back to the dorms. With nothing.

“Bakugou!” They shouted.

“Kacchan, are you alright? We saw the news!” Izuku stepped forward.

“Fucking fine-” Katsuki coughed a bit.

“Bakugou, did you see recovery girl? You were just attacked and hurt badly, your back could’ve been-”

“One of the cops had healed, they healed me. I’m fine. The bandages were just procured.” Katsuki cut off Iida.

“You sure you’re okay Kacchan?”

“Just a stupid cough Deku.”

“Well, I find it adorable that you have a first fan!” Hagakure smiled.

“Yeah, and how you signed her jacket!” Denki smiled.

“I didn’t think Bakugou liked kids,” Shoto said.

“I don’t.”

“But you were so nice to that little girl?” Iida asked.

“She was scared and needed to feel safe. It’s my job.”

“No, your job doesn’t require you to sign anything, or hug anyone,” Aizawa said as he came from the kitchen.

“See! You do have a heart!” Uraraka smiled.

“If he didn’t have one, he’d be dead,” Shoto said.

“Shoto.”

“What?”

“Stop it.”

“Never.” He smiled.

Katsuki left the common room to go to his room. Soon after he started coughing again.
