Work Text:
Pansy watched intently as the ceiling fan rotated, forcing the stale air to circulate through the small room. It was the one thing that helped to calm her mind. It had been days since she had been able to get a good night's sleep, and that was starting to take its toll on her. She was picking fights with people at work over the most minuscule of things. But that wasn't the worst of it.
After a fight around the dinner table the night before, Pansy had stormed out of the apartment rather than talking out the issue with Astoria. She regretted storming out, but Astoria wasn't being reasonable. If Pansy took time off work that Astoria was asking her to take for this trip, then they'd never be able to afford rent. It was a choice of being homeless or unhappy.
The decision came easy to Pansy. She'd stay home, maintaining the apartment and bills as well as working so that they could afford to live the life they were used to. Astoria could take off to galavant around France during Fashion Week to scout for new models for the designer she had been working for since graduating from University.
The thought of attending Fashion Week made Pansy's skin crawl. She loved fashion and designing, but the politics that went into Fashion Week gave her debilitating migraines. For her own sanity, Pansy wanted to stay home. For some reason, Astoria couldn't figure it out.
Pansy had known for a while that the feelings she had for Astoria didn't run nearly as deep as the feelings that Astoria had for her. Their relationship had started with a simple kiss that landed them in the same bed for the night. It was only supposed to be for one night, but no matter how many times Pansy snuck out in the morning, she found herself crawling back into bed with her arms wrapped around Astoria's body, exploring every inch of her.
"There you are," Astoria's voice pulled Pansy out of her thoughts.
Pansy propped herself up on her elbow to see Astoria pushing the bedroom door shut behind her. "I didn't think you'd be home so soon."
"So you'd have time to sneak back out?" Astoria asked, shoving her hands into her pockets. She lowered her eyes to watch the rug as she kicked aimlessly at it. "Did you think I didn't notice you never came home last night?"
"I stayed in a hotel," Pansy said, rolling off the bed. She brushed her hands over her shirt before crossing her arms over her chest. "I needed to take some time to myself and get my head on straight."
"You promised you wouldn't leave me," Astoria accused, crossing her arms over her chest. She took a steadying breath as she blocked Pansy's only exit.
Pansy looked Astoria up and down, cursing under her breath. This wasn't how they were supposed to end. It was only supposed to be a one-night thing, but then Astoria caught feelings, and Pansy caught something, but she couldn't put her finger on exactly what it was. Astoria's company was great and all, but she was smothering her.
"I guess I don't like to keep my promises," Pansy shrugged, taking a few steps towards the door. She let out a sigh when Astoria stepped between her and the door handle, stopping her once again. "Tori, don't do this."
"Don't do what?" Astoria asked, closing the space between them. She could feel Pansy's breath against her lips. All she wanted to do was grab both sides of Pansy's face, kissing her so passionately that both of them forgot what they were fighting about. "Why won't you talk to me about this?"
"Because," Pansy said, making a move for the doorknob only to make contact with Astoria's stomach. She growled, turning on her heel and walking back towards the bed. She began pacing back and forth across the small room, carding her hands through her hair. "I don't want to fight anymore, and I just want to move on from this."
Astoria tilted her head back, batting her eyes a few times to fight back the tears that had welled up in the corners of her eyes. "You mean you want to move on from me."
Pansy turned to look at Astoria, taking note of the tears that had started to roll down her cheek. Her heart lunged in her chest, trying to force her to move to Astoria and wrap her arms around her, but Pansy wouldn't move, and she couldn't.
"I'm sorry," Pansy said, moving again toward the door. This time, Astoria didn't stop her from pulling the door open and storming away.
