Castle Courage

Summary:

A suggestion to go to Dimitrescu castle forces Chris Redfield to finally act on his romantic feelings for a squad member.

Work Text:

Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Gradually growing impatient. Blasé. A yawn immediately escapes through my lips. A sigh, purposefully long, loud, and exaggerated, making it known that I had grown bored just sitting around doing nothing for hours on end.

"Tired?" My superior inquires as he lifts his head slightly from the phone glued to his large hand, eyeing me though thick and long lashes with baby blue eyes.

"Nope, just bored" I reply blatantly "You know what we should do?"

"We already are doing something, waiting on important information"

I roll my eyes at his answer, put forth rather sarcastically, stating the obvious as if I wasn't already aware.

"We should go to that large castle we spotted earlier"

"No" the tall and muscular man denies sternly

"But...It's a castle" I pout "And there's bioweapons inside"

His thin and pink lips curve into a small, warm and sincere smile, making me grow curious

"What's so funny, Captain?"

"Nothing" he lies

"Oh, come on. I could do with a reason to smile. Tell me. Please?"

The Captain shakes his head in defeat "It's just adorable how upset you were when I denied we go to the castle, okay? That's all"

"Hm. And why did you deny that exactly?"

"Because Dimitrescu and her daughters are not our priority. Miranda is" he answers "Why is it you were so upset?"

He speaks in the past tense but, technically, I still am.

"Honestly? I just really badly want to step foot inside a castle. Always did. And sadly, the only time I have ever seen one is either on TV or in my mind after reading a vivid book description"

"You've never been to Disneyland?"

"No, unfortunately. Have you?"

"Plenty of times, yes"

"Dates?"

"Big brother duty, more like"

"Wow. Lucky you" a hint of jealousy lacing my voice

"Tell you what" my superior inserts the phone into his pants pocket and gradually ambles his way over across the room where I stood leaning casually with my back planted against the wall "When this is all over, I'll take you on a little trip to Disneyland and show you a castle way bigger and prettier than one belonging to a blood sucking vampire"

"Dragon" I correct "And did you just ask me out on a date without actually asking me out on a date?"

"Um, yes. Yes I did. You're still more than welcome to reje-"

"I would like that actually, Captain"

The man before me moves in a little closer, his large and muscular frame just a touch away from pressing against mine "You know I don't mind you calling me Chris when we're alone, right?"

"Well, I know now" I suck in the corner of my bottom lip and bite flirtatiously as my orbs stare intently at his mouth.

The feelings, though secret, for my superior were always there, my dumbass just too cowardly to act upon them but brave enough to leave subtle hints, forcing him to confront his own hidden feelings and make the first move on me instead.

Slowly, he starts to lean his head in.

A little bit more.

Almost there.

"Canine to Alpha" another squad mate calls frantically through the walkie strapped to his vest "We have trouble, might need backup"

"Fuck" An annoyed grunt escapes through Chris's lips as his paw lands on the button at the side of the electronic device, giving it a firm press "What kind of trouble?" he musters as he backs away

"Lycans. Might lose eyes on target"

"Alright, try to send me your coordinates and we'll make our way over to you"

"Copy that"

Static and the walkie goes silent.

"Finally, some action" I convey excitedly soon as that familiar ping goes off inside his pocket, playfully slapping my palm against Chris' arm "Let's go"

I make it only a few steps past him before he wraps his digits around my wrist and pulls me back, immediately resting his lips on top of mine in a slow and sensual kiss.
