While the Theorizing Happens

Summary:

Angirus reflected the bullet, only this time it actually struck.

Notes:

There’s only ten fics in this fandom, which means I need to write more lol

Work Text:

“Yun!” Haberu calls out, “get out of there now.” The other man was still standing on the ledge with Kai, the journalist they met while doing recon on the information given by Sato.

A little too late , Yun thinks as he stares at the creature; it reminds him somewhat of an ankylosaurus, or maybe a similar subspecies of the dinosaur.

“There it is,” another voice calls out, making both him and the dinosaur turn towards the top of the platform, a large drop for any making their way down. The man aims his gun, probably not seeing him from where he’s standing and hesitates. Clearly not because he sees Yun, but probably because of what the creature is doing.

The creature’s spines running across its entire body start shaking, as if they’re reacting to something, an odd distorting motion that Yun can barely note- but it’s there.    He doesn’t get to look at the creature for very long, the man shifts his gun and to Yun it almost feels like slow motions. He sees the bullet leave the chamber, then he sees the sparks of the bullet hit the spikes and then—

And then.

And then ,

P a i n.

It wasn’t like before, when he had hit his head against the metal railing after they had crashed their bike, this pain, this feeling was almost unbearable. Yun opened his mouth, to what? Scream ? Call out ? Who knows, he laid there, in the water as his vision swam, and his head rang out similarly to before. Maybe it was the sound of the bullet itself? Yun wondered, or, maybe it was the fact he got shot. It really didn't matter in the long run, but he was on the floor suddenly in pain, which meant something went wrong somewhere.

It was in his leg, maybe the bullet ? Did it deflect the bullet the hunter had shot at him? Yun lays there, blinking at the sky, barely noticing his own surroundings. Voices are muddled around him, his head still ringing, voices inaudible and incoherent as he continues staring up at the sky.

The creature was gone, he can tell that much just from Haberu and Kai being closer to him, the journalist seeming oddly calm, pulling off his jacket to wrap around his leg, which definitely had a bullet go through it. The jacket was being used as a makeshift tourniquet, wrapping tightly in an attempt to stop the bleeding. Haberu was in front of him, speaking, as if Yun could hear what his coworker was saying.

He couldn’t, which sucked.

Yun continues blinking at his coworker until eventually he could faintly hear the man, Kai is clearly instructing him on something, and Yun can somewhat see the other man tightening the jacket on his leg as well as a stick— probably to help keep his leg as straight as possible as Haberu carefully picks him up.

“Wha’” Yun’s voice slurs as he speaks, not ideal at all for this situation. He’s seen Haberu carry other things much more carelessly, but those were boxes, and his friend had always been careful when helping out Yun.

The two hunters rush down as fast as they can, or maybe they hesitated for a while.

This isn’t safe, Yun realizes, they should probably wait before moving him to another location, but: the water probably isn’t helping his bleeding situation, they’re not going to get any medical attention down here for a while and lastly, there’s a monster running around in the forest around them.

Yun groans aloud as his leg shifts, finally able to fully hear himself, and the others. “You’re gonna be okay,” Haberu repeats over and over again, wading through trees and other foliage until eventually they reach the road.

Yun is somewhat thankful that there was already a notice about the creature as a SDF envoy is close by, a medical officer is close by and quickly they’re brought to a hospital.

So it turns out he did hit his head, Yun sits in a hospital bed as he waits for them to finally allow him visitors. He had managed to hit it when falling down into the water, against a small rock, it just wasn’t as bad as his leg wound.

He’s thankful the gun only penetrated the muscles of his left leg, coming close to hitting the bone - but only dislocating it and ripping through the skin and muscle of the actual leg. He only needed minor surgery, and he should be back home in a few days, the hospital being overrun with Rodan casualties.

“Anguirus?” Yun sounds out from his hospital bed, somewhat amused. “That’s an oddly cute name?” It was cuter than it should be for a baby dinosaur looking creature, but he can definitely see the resemblance to it’s dinosaur counterpart.

Haberu nods from where he’s sitting down, “apparently some kid tried calling it an ankylosaurus.” There was probably a video going around online about it Yun could watch later.

“And they got anguirus from it?”  Yun asks as they watch the television screen detailing the hunting ground information.

“Yeah,” Haberu watches intently, before the program shifts to the new creature; Manda, a water snake like creature that Yun knows will be a problem in the future. He shifts and Haberu understands the same as him, his friend sucking on his teeth, “I guess Jet Jaguar might be getting a water update?”

Yun leans back, “and maybe an air upgrade if the boss has any say in it.” It can be doable, at least the air upgrade. Maybe attaching a large pair of thrusters, though the battery and launch will be hard to get around— still, Yun thinks as they watch the news program, the red sea is an odd subject.

Yun shifts in his bed, “they’re sending you home soon right?” Haberu asks him, and he nods, settling down once again.

“Don’t worry,” Yun says with a smile, “I’ll be back to work in time for this to go down,” he motions to the rewind of the original broadcast, the anguirus newscast playing on the screen again.

“You sure?” Haberu asks, knowing the answer.

“Of course,” Yun agrees.
