Work Text:

Techno had grown accustomed to the ongoing war between the Dragonkin and the Humans that was going on beyond his forest. It wasn’t odd for him to pick up the sounds of a distant battle, the scent of blood sometimes reaching him as well. The creatures under the Goddesses protection always came to let him and his companion know what was going on if they strayed too close. When that happened, Techno and the man that had raised him would head out to chase them away. Sometimes it was just someone desperate to flee. Sometimes it was a hunter from one side that was too stupid to realize that it was dangerous to come into the forest. In those cases, the two were more than willing to remind them that their domain and the creatures within were off limits. Sometimes with a little blood. Sometimes with a limb if they were too persistent.

Other times... it was just someone that wanted somewhere beautiful to die. Phil and Techno would allow them that mercy. Keeping them company until they drew their final breath and began their journey on the other side to the Goddess of Death. They had already been through hell. It was the least they could do for them. As was custom for them, they would allow the forest to claim the body, using it to sustain itself and the creatures that lived there along with the duo.

So when Techno got an alert that someone had entered the forest from one creature, he thought nothing of it. With sword in hand, he made his way towards the disturbance. He promised he would be back as soon as it was taken care of. Techno hiked through the forest, thankful that it parted to make a path for him to follow. Even without the path, he would have known how to reach where he was told to go. Techno knew the place like the back of his hand after growing up in the wild, untamed space. But there was something different about this time. Like the forest wanted him to get there quickly.

It was strange. Could it be Phil? Was he hurt and the creature had not recognized him? Techno tried to shake the thought from his head. Phil was fine. Away on a trip, but he was just fine. Techno would have known if he had returned. But the creatures not recognizing the old crow had happened before...

That train of thought was stopped in its tracks as Techno stepped into the clearing that the forest had made around the intruder. The scent of blood tickled his nostrils, making the voices cry out for blood. But Techno ignored them as he took in the sight of the Dragonkin. Both wings had been cut off, blood still seeping from the deep wounds where they had once been. His clothing was in tatters, horns broken off as close to the skull as possible. There was a deep gash in his side that seemed like overkill. But there was someone that definitely wanted this poor guy gone. If he was not gone already.

Techno stepped close then pressed his fingers to the Dragonkin’s pulse, surprised that he actually found one. A low growl sent vibrations through the man’s throat but there was no movement from him. Too exhausted to do little more than try to ward off anything that might decide he would be a tasty snack. Techno pulled his hand away, noticing a green eye staring at him. They stared at each other for a long while before the eye slid shut. The Dragonkin was still alive. For now, at least.

Techno was content to sit there with him until he passed. But a different thought pushed itself to the front of his mind.

The Boar Sylvan was not entirely sure what compelled him to do it but he plucked up the Dragonkin. With more care than he would show anyone other than Phil, he held him close. “Oh, shut it. I’m tryin’ to help.” He said when he heard another growl rumble its way through the too light body. Techno felt the pleased ripple that shivered through the forest as he began the trek back to the house. Did the Goddess… did she want this?

Why? There was not a single answer that Techno could come up with. Maybe Phil would know something when he returned…

When Techno arrived, he laid the Dragonkin on the kitchen table. Setting him to make it simple for him to take care of the wounds.. At least he didn’t have to worry about getting snapped at. The Dragonkin had fallen unconscious during the journey. Techno would be lying if he said he did not think he had kicked the bucket on more than one occasion.

Both sides of his back were taken care of then the gash in his side. Bandaged gently to keep anything from getting in. Techno would have to keep a careful eye on the injuries. With those two pressing matters taken care of, he began looking over the brunette for any other injuries.

While he found nothing further, there was something else he found. Solid lumps in the lower abdomen, all the same size and shape. Roughly. The Boar Sylvan furrowed his brows as he tried to remember why the feeling was so familiar. He eventually shook it off, deciding to move the Dragonkin to the spare bedroom. So he was more comfortable and Techno didn’t have to eat dinner with him laying there.

Techno wouldn’t admit it. But without all the blood and grime, face actually relaxed. The Dragonkin was kinda cute. Even when he was growling at him and half dead.

He would need to talk to Phil when he returned. If their new housemate survived the night.
