After the whole debacle with home world Stevonnie has gotten stronger plus Connie and Steven have been getting a lot closer lately, sometimes when they fuse for a mission they don't unfuse until Connie has to go home. And when she does go home it just feels wrong to be apart.
They talked about it yesterday before Connie went home and she said she felt the same thing, and that they should probably talk to Garnet. So here they were, as Stevonnie of course. Waiting for Garnet to get home.
"When do you think she will be back "Connie thought.
'I think Garnet will be back any moment 'Steven replied. And speak of the devil, the warp pad activated and there was Garnet.
"Hey, Garnet, We need to talk to you, it's important," Stevonnie said. Garnet popped the bubble in her hand and walked over to them.
"Stevonnie, what is it ?" Garnet asked.
"Um...well we have been having problems staying apart after we fuse, for m-missions. And um...Steven and Connie get this feeling when they are too far away from each other, like if one doesn't go to the other something bad, like really bad will happen. We guess what we're trying to say is can you ...um help or have an knowledge about what's happening?" Stevonnie rushed out. They looked up and Garnet was smiling.
"I know exactly what is going on, Stevonnie, your fusion is getting stronger as your love for each other grows. You have to chose do you want to keep being Stevonnie or would it be ok if you separated but you could never be Stevonnie again" Garnet knew what their answer would be but wanted to make them think.
'Steven, I don't ever not be able to fuse this is the best thing in my life, you are the best person in my life' Connie sobbed.
'Connie, I have no intentions of ever leaving you alone ever again. I wouldn't unfuse even if we didn't have to Steven thought through their link.
'that's it what if we never have to unfuse, we could stay like
this as Stevonnie, as a permanent fusion Connie explained
"Garnet, is there a way that we could exist as Stevonnie forever?" she asked. Garnet nodded.
"It's called Permanent fusion, like Ruby and Sapphire. Should you be willing to do that?" Garnet said. A quick answer of 'yes' came from Stevonnie. They were so happy today they wouldn't unfuse when..... "omg, did you ever talk to your parents about Stevonnie
Steven asks Connie through the link.
Stevonnie was heading over to Connie's place with pearl, and Garnet made a game plan on how they would tell Mr and Mrs. M about themselves. Stevonnie was twiddling their fingers as they walked and talked.
'Steven what if they don't like us' Connie exclaimed.
'Connie it might take them a while but eventually they will accept this' Steven replied. As Stevonnie was walking they wrapped their arms around themselves.
'ok'Connie said.
As Stevonnie reached the door to Connie's house they knocked and Mrs. Maheswaran answered the door.
"I'm sorry but who are you?" Mrs. Maheswaran asked. Pearl stepped forward.
"They are the reason we are here. Could we come in this may be a little surprising," Pearl said when they were settled in the living room.
"What do you know about Stevonnie ?" Pearl asked.
"Stevonnie?, You mean that friend of Steven's that goes on missions with Connie and him from time to time?" Ms Maheswaran asked. Pearl and Garnet look at each other almost amusedly.
"A friend of Steven's is that who she told you they were ?" Garnet says, almost laughing. Then looks over to Stevonnie.
"So that's what you have been telling them?" She ask Stevonnie. They blushed and looked down in an attempt to hide it. Garnet shook her head then looked back to the Maheswaran's.
"Stevonnie is not a fren, they are a fusion" Pearl said. As expected Mrs And Mr. Maheswaran held a confused look on their face. Pearl stood up ready for a less than lengthy explanation. A projection came from her gem, showing two figures standing together.
"Fusion in gem culture is when two beings of light merge together to create a completely different being" as they were explaining the figures quickly phased into each other creating a bigger person with two extra arms. The figure as soon as it was there was gone.
"Usually fusion is used only for dire emergencies. There are exceptions, however. Some gems fuse indefinitely as a symbol of love and commitment. Garnet is one of those exceptions. Stevonnie is to be one of those exceptions" Pearl finished, she then went back and took her seat, while Garnet crossed her arms.
"Fusion is also a hard thing to master. It takes a lot of dedication to the other partner of the fusion, and has to be with someone you trust and really care about" Pearl adds
"This has been a learning experience but what does it have to do with Connie ?" Mr. Maheswaran asked.
"Stevonnie is a fusion of Steven and Connie. I'm Stevonnie, "they said.
"Wait if you're...then....where is my daughter !?" Ms. Maheswaran asks, freaking out.
"Your daughter only exists within me. She does not have a physical form, and because Steven and Connie want to be Stevonnie indefinitely she will continue to only exist in me" They explain.
"Why...why does my daughter and Steven want to stay this way as you ?" Mr. Maheswaran asked.
"They want to be me because Steven and Connie tried. They really did to be separated from each other but it got harder and harder till eventually......both just broke down." Stevonnie said tears forming in their eyes
"Steven was waiting for Connie to get back from school he didn't want Connie to know but the whole day especially in the afternoon he felt like because they were apart they were never going to be Stevonnie again when connie came around the corner she had tears in her eyes she didn't even see Steven there and they fell over fusing without meaning to, and we just sat there in the sand repeating 'never again' over and over and over again. They never want to feel like that again....I won't let them feel like that again" They said resolve in their voice.
"No" The two letters almost doomed them.
"What.....what do you mean 'no' ?" Stevonnie said confusedly.
"I want my daughter back....now!" Mrs. Maheswaran exclaimed. Her face was scrunched up. She was mad. Stevonnie was mad that Mrs. Maheswaran was mad, but they wouldn't let it show.
"I can't give you your daughter back but I can say Goodbye for her, so goodbye" Stevonnie got up and walked out of the house, Lion was waiting outside like they asked him to and they got on Lion. A single tear escaped their eye.
"Let's go back to the temple, Lion," They said. Lion ran forwards and roared a portal appearing, lion jumping through and landing in front of the warp pad. Stevonnie got off and went over to the kitchen to warm up a hot pocket. Amethyst was on the couch eating a bag of chaps.
"So how did it go, you guys?" Amethyst ask.o
"Not great, Connie's mom wants us to unfuse. She was really mad when we said goodbye and left" Stevonnie answered.
"Oh well, the parents will cool down eventually" she assured Stevonnie. Right then Garnet and Pearl got back.
-30 years later-
A figure was kneeling at the base of a grave, the grave read:
Dr. Priyanka and Doug Maheswaren Beloved partners, parents, and friends.
The figures' shoulders were shaking and they were crying. The people in the grave had died of a car crash, a semi truck rammed them from the front they died on impact, a good thing that meant there was no pain in the death.
"We never got to say sorry to them," Stevonnie exclaimed. Stevonnie had long ago learned that they would not age, they had accepted they would lose people they loved but they didn't know it would be so soon, Stevonnie stayed there for a bit longer in the morning.
The Fusion got up, turned around, Lion was standing there. Stevonnie climbed on and Lion was off roaring through a portal into the world and disappeared through it. When they got back to the house Peridot greeted them saying that Garnet wanted to speak to all the crystal gems. They walked up the stairs through the door and Garnet was standing by the kitchen counter, Amethyst was sitting on the counter and Pearl was on the couch. Stevonnie and Peri went and sat next to Pearl on the couch.
"We feel that with the loss that we have just experienced we should say something, Stevonnie for however much. loss you experience rely on each other to trudge through. And rely on me to guide you through it, rely on Pearl to give you a hug, rely on amethyst to cheer you up. Most importantly rely on the Crystal Gems to catch you when you fall, because this won't be the last time you fall and we want to be there every step of the way" Garnet said.
