Work Text:
Marjorine sat strop the soft pink towel, rubbing the coconut scented sunblock onto her pale, fair skin. Her glossed pink lips tugged into a smile as the coconut butter smell hit her nose; it had always been her favourite smell even since childhood.
Happily smiling to herself, Marjorine adjusted the straps of her cropped blue tank-top as she pondered whether to sit and watch a bit more before getting in the crystal teal sea that lapped back and forth in front of her.
Her sunglass-covered eyes glazed across the ocean as she watched the children play and the adult swim far out. That’s when, far off, her eyes caught on one singular person.
From so far away, Marjorine couldn’t tell if they were a boy or girl and the orange rash-top-shorts combo leaving no hints. But they were certainly blind, not a soft and creamy blonde that was closer to white like Marjorine but a glowing, warm blond. Beside them, they held a long wooden board. A surf board.
Marjorine watched as they talked to what seemed to be another surfer, a similarly dressed ginger. Her eyes followed closely as the blond nodded vigorously before they dashed off into the sea.
They swam out with their chest pressed to the board until a sizeable wave came their way, Marjorine briefly wondered why the waves were taller over there than where she was. Nevertheless, she stared as he stood up, riding the water with a white trail of bubbles behind him. Marjorine sighed dreamily and rested her head on her knees, wondering what the blond was like.
They looked short next to the ginger but their skin looked awfully tanned. Jeez, a tanned, blond surfer, Marjorine had basically built her dream partner. She kept looking whilst the surfer rode the waves, occasionally jumping high above them which made Marjorine hum happily. After a while, the blond made their way back to shore, arms raised high up in a celebratory manor as the people they were with ran up to them.
Sighing, Marjorine brought her head up and dusted the sand off her legs before standing up. She raised the sunglasses off her face, letting them rest on her head as she prepared for a swim.
“Hey!” Someone called, making her jump. Had someone recognised her? Or worse, had someone clocked her?! “I saw you watching me, I think,”
Okay, maybe this was even worse. Marjorine’s eyes met with the gorgeous blond surfer. Their hair was dripping wet, small droplets scattered across their freckled face as they grinned joyful up at the girl. “Sorry, you were just um-“ Marjorine stumbled over her words, nervously rubbing her knuckles together. “You’re quite good!”
The surfer laughed lightly, their nose scrunching up. “I didn’t think a pretty girl would be interested,” They winked, watching as Marjorine blushed and looked away.
“Thank you?” She mumbled, uneasy about trusting the blond person, no matter how angelic they looked.
“Sorry if this is weird or something!” They quickly said, waving their hand around. “I just wanted to, you know! Shoot my shot…?” They smiled nervously, trying to gauge the girl’s reaction. Their nerves were eased as soon as they heard Marjorine snicker.
“That’s awful sweet of ya,” She said, a country accent leaking through her words. “And I um, I think you’re a very good-looking fella!”
“Thanks!” They cheered triumphantly. “I’m Kenny by the way,”
“Nice to meet you, Ken,” Marjorine said sweetly, automatically resorting to a nickname for the boy before her. “I’m Marjorine, but I don’t mind Marj,”
Kenny nodded, their eyes flickering between Marjorine’s. “So, Marjorine,” They mumbled slightly at her name, scared to mispronounce it. “I’ve never seen you around before?”
“Oh! Yea, I’m just here for work,” She explained, twirling her weakly curled hair between her fingers as a subconscious tic.
Kenny’s eyebrows rose. “Really?”
“Mhm!” Marjorine nodded. “I’m a model so we’re on the move most of the time,”
“A model?!” Kenny’s jaw practically dropped to the floor; they stared, dumbfounded, at Marjorine. “Shit dude, you’re like Professionally Pretty,”
“Ahah, I guess,” She chuckled. “So, um, you live here or something?” Marjorine asked, earning another nod from Kenny.
“Yea, all my life!”
“Wow,” She hummed jealously. “I would’ve killed to live in a place like this,” Kenny raised a curious brow that prompted Marjorine to talk further. “A girl like me ain’t made for the Colorado mountains,”
“Colorado?!” Kenny’s bright eyes widened. “Dude, my buddy’s from there!”
“Oh! Really?” Marjorine smiled at Kenny’s excitement as she followed their stare. “Sorry if I’m keeping you,”
“Oh! No way, dude!” Kenny defended swiftly, shaking their head as they spoke. “I’m just thinking about how I’m gonna brag ‘bout this when I get back over there,” They smirked; it made Marjorine giggle.
“You are?”
“Totally, like you are the hottest chick I’ve ever met they’d be grateful to even get a look at you,” They replied smugly, crossing their arms over their chest like he was the coolest and smartest guy ever.
“And you ain’t?” Marjorine teased, punching Kenny softly in the arm as they chuckled comfortably.
“Dude, I will worship the ground you walk on, you’re a goddess,”
“Aw shucks,” Marjorine laughed, blushing harder as Kenny laughed too.
“It’s true though, you’re like the prettiest girl I’ve ever like even laid my eyes on!!!”
Marjorine continued smiling, in trance from Kenny’s swirling eyes and wide grin. “Why, you really know how to woo a girl,”
“Is it working?” Kenny smirked, tilting his head to the side like a puppy.
Marjorine nodded honestly and said, “You had me at hello,”
“So,” Kenny beamed triumphantly. “Can I get your number?”
