Work Header

Like pieces of the same broken puzzle

Summary:

Because Tory didn’t want to discuss the heartfelt shit with Robby after taking down Silver, their relationship stayed in the air. Who would’ve thought that Miguel Diaz would become the bridge for them to come together for good?

Notes:

Hi again!

So, I loved season 5 but it was missing a few things. I feel like the only ones who didn't get closure were Tory and Miguel, so I'm here to fix that.

To be honest I would've also appreciated more screen time for Tory and Robby, or more scenes between Amanda and Tory. What else would you have liked to see?

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was a slow day. Tory had gone to the hospital to get her hand checked, courtesy of Amanda LaRusso. Because, of course, she could have never afforded that. And being completely honest, she just wanted to be done with the whole thing.

The girl still had nightmares where she would have to break the rock, again and again. And the fact that Kim Da-Eun managed to stay out of jail didn’t make it any easier. She could’ve said something about it, but what difference would’ve made? Tory always ended up losing those battles. Her calling the police on her dad all those years ago was proof of that. The man had beaten the shit out of her, and with her mom sick she had no one to save her.

He ended up leaving though, so that was a plus.

At least she had Robby now. They hadn’t discussed whether they were back together, but they had kissed, so that was a start. At most, she could say that they weren’t just friends. The truth was, she just needed him back, no matter how. And when he leaned in to kiss her, she felt like she could breathe again.

Tory didn’t tell him much about her injury, or the nightmares that followed. But she knew that, somehow, he knew it had been Cobra Kai. It was always Cobra Kai.

He would wait for her to be ready to talk though, that was how he was.

The blonde was so lost in thought that she almost didn’t see Miguel until he was in front of her.

“Hey, how is the hand?” He asked with caution.

“Definitely broken, I’m just waiting for the doctor to give me the prescription.” She explained to him. “What are you doing here?”

“My mom had a shift today and forgot her lunch so…” He shrugged.

“Right, that makes sense.”

“I… I thought Robby would be with you.” Said Miguel then, testing the waters. After all, that was the longest conversation they had had in a while.

“He had a thing with his dad, they’re picking me up though.”

They both went silent after that, and Miguel took the opportunity to sit next to her. It was now or never, he thought.

“Listen, Tory. I think we’ve avoided this long enough.” She looked at him puzzled. “I’m really sorry for causing you any pain, that was never my intention.”

“I’m sorry too.” Started the girl. “Deep down I think I knew you still had a thing for Sam. I mean, you couldn’t go without talking about her for more than two minutes. When I met her at the country club she was with Robby, so I assumed they were together and I guess I just thought I could help you get over her.” Tory looked down while speaking.

“Yeah, but that’s not on you. I was the one who was all conflicted about it, I knew I wasn’t over her and I shouldn’t have made a move on you, not until I was certain it was the right time.” Continued Miguel.

“I don’t think there was ever a right time for us.” Added Tory with complete honesty. “I… had fun though.”

Miguel gave her a nostalgic smile. “So did I. And for what is worth, I still care about you.”

“I care about you too, I guess.”

“So, are we okay?” He asked her again with a hopeful smile.

“We’re fine, Miguel.” She allowed herself to smile too.

He could see now that this was not the same Tory he had dated. That Tory would’ve never apologized because, well, he had been the one to cheat. Miguel knew how loyal she was, so he also knew how much it must’ve hurt her. He was all she had at the time. But now she had Robby, and although he had struggled with the idea of them together, it totally made sense now.

“For a long time I hoped I could take it all back, all the pain I put you through.” He confessed to her then.

“I would never take it back, not even if I somehow could. We had our moments, and yes, you hurt me, but I would’ve never found Robby if it hadn’t happened.” She was at peace with that, he could see it in her face.

“Everything happens for a reason, I guess.” He smiled and Tory mirrored him. “So, are you guys back together again?”

“We haven’t exactly talked about it yet.” She shrugged.

“But you kissed!” He exclaimed with confusion.

“Still.”

“I got to learn about Robby’s life through sensei, and now Sam, you know?” Miguel started again. "And well, the guy is literally my brother now. So I’d say I know him pretty well by now.” They both laughed at that. “My point is; you are really similar in all kinds of ways. It’s like you guys are soulmates or something.”

Tory rolled her eyes at that. She had forgotten how corny Miguel could get sometimes.

“I’m not even joking, Tory.” The Ecuadorian continued. “You are loyal, and that’s exactly what Robby needs. He gives everything to the people he loves, and that’s exactly what you need. You complement each other like nothing I’ve seen before. I’m glad you found each other, you look happier than ever with him.”

“I am.” She just said. “I hope you’re happier too.”

“I am.”

A beat of silence passes by.

“Is everything okay in here?” They didn’t even realise Robby had arrived until he spoke.

“Yeah, yeah. Just catching up.” Added Miguel with a small smile.

“Well, my dad is downstairs if you want a ride.” Continued Robby.

“Great! See you guys downstairs then!” Said Miguel while he started to walk away.

The doctor appeared right then, he explained to Robby the damage of Tory’s injury and gave them the prescription she needed to get her medicine.

Tory was about to walk away when Robby stopped her. “Tory, I’m really sorry about all of this.”

“Why? You didn’t do anything.”

“I left you there alone, it’s my fault this happened to you.” Tory used her good hand to make Robby look at her.

“It doesn’t make a difference. If you had stayed there, you would’ve gotten hurt too.” She told him while caressing his cheek.

“Why didn’t you tell me you had a plan?” He asked then.

“You wouldn’t have let me see it through, and I couldn’t have that, Robby. I was just blind with rage against Silver.”

He still wasn’t convinced.

“You’re here now, that’s all that matters,” Tory told him. Robby leaned into her, getting their foreheads together.

“And I will never leave again.” She remembered what Miguel had just said, Robby gave everything to the people he loved. Tory was just honored to be one of them. “You don’t know how important you are to me, Nichols.” Robby continued speaking, he just needed to get it all out. “I never thought I’d be the guy who gets the girl.”

“I never thought I’d be the girl who gets the guy.” She told him.

They were two pieces of the same broken puzzle, and they had found each other on the way. Maybe Miguel was right, maybe they were soulmates.

Robby smiled when she spoke. “How about we make it official then?”

“I’m not striking first, Keene.” She told him with her signature smirk.

“Be my girlfriend again? No ultimatums this time.” He asked her.

“What’s in it for me?” She was messing with him now, but he deserved it.

“A shit ton of these.” Robby leaned in and kissed her with everything he had. Of course, she mirrored his actions immediately.

“I think I can work with that.” She said in between kisses.

Then, out of the blue, Robby’s phone started to ring.

“I can see you making out from the parking lot! Get your asses over here now!” Johnny’s screams were heard the minute Robby answered the call. Miguel was laughing in the background. Robby didn’t even have a chance to reply, because he hung up immediately.

The young couple just laughed at the man’s attitude.

“Think we should make him wait a couple more minutes?” Asked Robby while laughing. He had a spark of mischief in his eyes. How could she say no to that?

Tory took Robby’s shirt in her hand and pulled him to her, kissing him again. Not a second later, Robby’s phone started ringing again, but they both ignored it.

It wouldn't be long before the man started honking his horn.

So, yeah.

Tory had a ton of shit to figure out, and a lot of conversations to be had. But she wasn’t alone now.

And with Robby, she would never be alone again.

She was complete.

Notes:

Also, after writing this, I think we all could appreciate some more Johnny-Tory interactions, right? Maybe even add Shannon to the mix. It would be hilarious! Maybe I could make it happen too, we'll see.

Anyway, thank you for reading!
