Work Text:

Talia knew from a young age her father was a wanderer, after her mother’s death they never stayed in one place, always somewhere new with new people.

It’s gotten worse as the Lazarus pit has corrupted him more and more, paranoia and a growing hatred for what the world has become has led to him traveling more and more.

Talia could do little but follow him, after all, he was her father, she was all he had left.

Immortality was lonely.

Which is why she would never choose it for herself, she wanted to live and grow, love and have a home. Somewhere to stay and no longer be a wanderer.

It was tragic to find out that Bruce himself was a bit of a wanderer, not in the same way as her father.

While his body stayed in Gotham he was off somewhere else, his mind always occupied with something else, never there.

He could never be what she needed, she knew that…

She knew that he wouldn’t be able to stay in one place, he would wander away, always in the city amount the shadows.

So she would keep what she could. Kept in a small house that one day she will go to, maybe with Bruce, maybe with her father, one day they would hopefully stop wandering.

She sat in this house, Damian by her side playing on the floor. His little plush bat was a favorite of his, she gave it to him when he was born, a small gift to remind him of who his father was.

She wanted him to have more. Her father did his best in his grief, the death of her mother changed him so deeply she for a time felt like she had lost both her parents in that tragedy.

And well, Bruce wasn’t as different. The Death of his parents haunted him so much that he became something completely different, a man driven by pain and grief.

Both men her life were created by grief, both of them were beings born from tragedy who could no longer stand within the same limits of humanity.

Both of them wandered from their destined paths.

Her father a man of kindness and healing turned to a life of bitterness and violence.

Bruce was a boy who if it had been someone else would have become one of anger and bloodshed, but instead became a hope for the hopeless.

And then there was her, Talia Al Ghul, daughter to the Demon and mother of the son of the Bat, who would follow those wanderers until their feet finally grew tired. Not because she had to, but because she wanted to.

Her decision was one of love, a love for family, a love for the people that they could have been if people in their lives hadn’t been so tragically stripped from them.

She loved her wanderers.

And as she watched Damian take his first steps and gaze upon the world around him with such awe, she knew she would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
