Chapter Text
Being honest with herself was turning out to be both the best decision, and the worst mistake, Splendid had ever made, all in one.
As far as she could tell, she was stuck. She knew who she really was, now, who she was always meant to be. And she couldn't tell anyone else.
She didn't know how to balance a life as a civilian with a career as a superhero. There was no way to live one life as a man and one life as a woman, and she couldn't figure out how to split the difference.
Sometimes, it seemed like her only option was to collapse the two sides of her life entirely, and shatter every illusion everyone had about her. The reckless part of her wanted to go through with it. The part of her that had gotten so used to lying was petrified of the consequences.
Would there be consequences?
The more she thought about it, the more she wasn't sure. A sickly green glow haunted her memories, but she had destroyed that accursed rock, hadn't she? She had. It was nothing more than glittering dust at the bottom of an empty lake, now. Did she have anything to worry about, then? She had to, didn't she? It was how she had lived her life for so long, building a wall between her life and her work.
There had to be a reason for it, didn't there?
But the more she thought about it, the less she could come up with. She had been hiding for so long, but she couldn't recall the reason why anymore.
Maybe there had never really been one in the first place.
