Admirer

Summary:

“George walked to his locker, reaching it with a sigh. Another school day. Why does high school never end? After some struggling, he opened his locker and a note fluttered out. He picked it up and unfolded the paper.

I’m too nervous to tell you this in person, but I think you’re funny and cute and I really like you
-Your Secret Admirer”

Notes:

Hehe I’m a sucker for notes. I’ve never had or been a secret admirer though so this is my best guess at how people write secret admirer notes.

Work Text:

George walked to his locker, reaching it with a sigh. Another school day. Why does high school never end? After some struggling, he opened his locker and a note fluttered out. He picked it up and unfolded the paper.

I’m too nervous to tell you this in person, but I think you’re funny and cute and I really like you

-Your Secret Admirer

George felt his face heat up. He’s never had a secret admirer before. He’s never really had an admirer period. He kept to himself and blended in with the crowd, and his friend group was pretty small. He wondered who it was. Before he could get to lost in his thoughts though a bang next to him made him jump.

“Hey George!” Dream said, leaning on the locker.

“You scared the crap out of me why do you have to throw yourself at the locker. What did it ever do to you?” George asked.

“Well it’s in this school and this school sucks so…”

George couldn’t argue with that.

“What’s that note you have there?” Sapnap asked, effectively startling George.

“Why do you both insist on giving me heart attacks as a greeting. Ever heard of just saying hello?”

“Aww but Georgie that’s no fun!” Sapnap said, drawing out George’s name in a whine. “You never answered my question” he continued.

“Oh! I got a note from a secret admirer”

Sapnap raised an eyebrow. “Someone gave you a note? Are they blind?”

“Sapnap!” Dream said, finally contributing just to smack Sapnap’s shoulder.

“Ow! What was that for!”

“For being rude that’s what!”

“Simp” Sapnap muttered.

“Why you little-“

The bell rung, ending the argument and sending the boys scrambling to get to their classes on time.

George spent the rest of that morning wondering who it was that wrote him the note. He knew who he hoped it was. For years he has had a crush on Dream. They’ve been best friends since early childhood, but in the recent years George’s feelings for him had changed. That didn’t matter right now though, he had a secret admirer to uncover.

He spent the rest of the day trying to look for anything that seemed off. Any prolonged staring from a stranger, being talked to by someone who has never talked to him before, even someone scribbling a note on a lone sheet of paper. By the end of the day the only person he caught staring was Dream, which wasn’t anything new. He assumed the ADHD made him zone out and accidentally stare. George decided it was a lost cause. It was probably a one time thing anyways.

It was not a one time thing.

He came into school the next day and found a note in his locker, then the day after that, then again the day after that. Each note called him cute, complimented something he did, or even just told him they liked his laugh. It was nearing the end of the week and George was starting to be driven mad from it all.

“I have a secret admirer and I don’t know who it is and they keep leaving me notes and I don’t know what to do!” George said when he sat at his usual lunch table that Thursday. Dream and Sapnap knew this of course, but Niki and Wilbur, the other members of George’s small friend group, had not had this mentioned until now.

“You have an admirer?” Wilbur asked.

“Why does everyone find that so hard to believe!” George said.

“That’s so cute! Can I see the notes?” Niki asked, cutting off the bickering before it could start.

George handed the notes over and let Niki fangirl over it. Wilbur read them over her shoulder, before shooting an unreadable look at Dream, who for some reason looked like a deer in headlights. George brushed it off, more interested in any ideas Niki or Wilbur had.

By the end of lunch, after some brainstorming, it was decided that George would hide out that night and try to catch his admirer when they skipped a note into his locker. It seemed foolproof so George agreed. When the last bell rang, George hid behind a wall by his locker and waited, watching. Eventually though, everyone has left. George assumed the mystery person would come on the morning and decided to have a stakeout in the hallway.

He must have fallen asleep though because suddenly he was being shaken awake by Sapnap.

“Dude! Did you find out who it was?”

“Shit, I fell asleep and missed them!”

But when George opened his locker, no note was there. He felt a little disappointed, but decided to leave it.

He went about his day as normal, somewhat tired from his endeavors but overall just bored. At the end of the day he went to put his books in his locked, and a note fluttered out.

Fuck it. I’ve had a crush on you for years. You’re amazing, cute, funny, smart, and you’ve captured my heart. I respect it if you don’t like me this way, but do you want to go on a date tonight?

-Dream

George looked up and Dream was standing there looking like the textbook definition of nervous. His hands were in his hoodie pocket and his shoulders were tense but he still shot George a sheepish smile.

“Of course I’ll go on a date with you you idiot! I’ve liked you for god knows how long.” George said.

The two decided to go to a small diner within walking distance of the school for their date. They shared a milkshake while they laughed at their mutual pining and sneaked loving looks at each other. Dream walked George home when it got late, and the two kissed under the stars before they part. The next day George found a note in his locker, asking him if he wanted to be Dream’s boyfriend, and at the end of the day Dream had a note in his locker saying yes.
