Something Different

Summary:

Morgan was just trying to get by as a low tier hero when he finds himself under the attention of the infamous S tier. Said villain seems to be only growing more persistent as time goes on, making Morgan fear what they might do next.

Notes:

This is going to be a dark story, the first chapter is really tame compared to what I have planned. Please check the tags and keep an eye on if I add anything.

Chapter 1: Meet Cute (?)

Chapter Text

Morgan was starting to get really tired of the S Tier. He always seemed to be popping up at his battles lately forcing Morgan to retreat and get yelled at by his parents for ‘abandoning his mission’.

Honestly, the fact that they expect him, a D tier hero to try his luck against the fucking S tier who regularly takes down the most powerful heroes alive is rediculous. Honestly, he wouldn’t be surprised if they were just trying to get him injured enough that he would be forced back into being Chad’s sidekick.

Luckily for him, their opinion of him didn’t matter anymore. He might not be powerful enough to take down the big villains that plague the city, but he is able to take down some of the low tier villains that often went ignored. Hell, he had been making a lot of progress in taking down a major crime syndicate before the S tier started appearing.

Their first interaction, Alex spotted Morgan trying to sneak into the base of the Grenadine Family, a group who specialized in drug running and taking advantage of vulnerable people. When Morgan saw Alex, he didn’t recognize him and assumed he was a new member of his crew so he fussed at the villain to help him with getting a vent open.

For some reason, Alex didn’t kill Morgan right then and there, and he actually helped get the vent open. The mission went off without a hitch and Morgan got in and out of the base without leaving a trace and extracted the information he needed. When he got out, Alex was standing in the same place he was when Morgan went in.

Morgan was going to confront them about what he was still doing there, but then he saw their golden snake eyes and it clicked. It was needless to say that Morgan decided that situation warranted the use of ability and he messaged his crew to avoid the S tier and to only grab the files Morgan left if it was safe.

When his crew got back the Fairness Association with the documents in hand, he hoped that meant the S tier decided to do something other than mess with a D tier. At least, that’s what he thought until his next mission.

Morgan was on shift to do some patrol work when the S tier showed up again.

It was a cold December night and Morgan was walking down the streets on the south side of the city. This part of the town was often neglected by both villains and heroes of higher tiers. A lot of the heroes act like this lack of attention was due to bigger villains being elsewhere but Morgan knew it was just because a lot of them couldn’t bring themselves to care about those living paycheck to paycheck.

A lot of the buildings in this area seemed to be moments away from collapse, the cracks very prominent in the foundations.

Morgan took a moment to stop in front of the apartment building he lived in while he was Chad’s sidekick. He wondered how his former neighbors have been doing since he moved. Maybe he could check in after his shift.

“So, you’re Quicksave, right?”

The voice behind him startled Morgan out of his thoughts and he quickly turned to see who it was. To his horror, behind him was a figure with two golden snake eyes. He was so dead.

“Uh, yeah… that’s me…”

He immediately reached into his pocket to signal for backup.

“Interesting, I don’t believe I have heard of you before. If it wasn’t for our interaction, I probably wouldn’t even know you exist.”

“Well, I am only D tier…” Morgan tried to think of something to say to get the S tier to not want to kill him,” Uh, look, I am sorry about earlier, I honestly thought you were someone else-”

Morgan is cut off as he gets winded from being pushed against a wall. At first he thought that this was it, but instead of being slammed against the wall with a force to kill him, the S tier had seemed to only intend on pinning him. Morgan could feel his heart racing and tried to keep the heat from rising to his face.

The S tier’s eyes scanned over him, taking in every detail.

“You know, most heroes only have the privilege of meeting me once, so you should be flattered.”

Morgan tried to struggle free but against the S tier’s super strength there were no dice.

“Sorry if I don’t feel very flattered by the fact that I am about to die!” Morgan knew it was probably not the best idea to yell at the most powerful person on the planet, especially when said person currently had him pinned to the crumbling wall of a shitty apartment complex, but he was probably going to die either way.

“What makes you think you are about to die?” The S tier snickered a little as he said this.

“Maybe because the S tier, the most prolific hero killer, currently has me pinned to a wall!”

“Quicksave, if I wanted you dead, I would have killed you already. I only toy with my prey when they deserve it.”

Morgan’s eyes narrowed, “Then why are you here if not to kill me?”

The S tier laughed at this, “Simple, you interest me and I wanted to learn more. It isn’t every day that a hero, let alone a D tier hero, yells at me to help open a vent.”

“That was an accident! I thought you were someone on my crew.”

“Accident or not, you have gotten my attention. I imagine that I’ll probably kill you when I inevitably get bored of you but right now, why don’t we get to know each other?” Before the S tier got the chance to continue, the two heard the shouts of heroes approaching. “Oh, it looks like our game of twenty questions will have to wait, I would hate for your friends to accidentally destroy the most affordable housing on the market.”

Without that, the S tier was gone, the only evidence of him ever being there was the bruises that were inevitably going to form along Morgan’s back.

Before Morgan got the chance to process what the hell just happened the voice of his brother echoed from above, “Morgan! It’s me, your brother Chad! You signaled that you were having an emergency!”

Morgan just sighed at his brother’s blatant disregard for preserving the secret aspect of their secret identities. “The emergency left, could you rush me over to the FA so I can write an incident report? The S tier was here.”

“The S tier?! Someone needs to stop him before he hurts innocent people!” Chad immediately turned to take off.

“Wait! He already left! Please just take me back to headquarters so I can get this report in!”

Chad turned back, finally seeming to get what Morgan was saying, “Of course dear brother! Let’s get this news to Headquarters so that the Fairness Association can stop the S tier’s nefarious plans before they have the chance to do them!”

Chad then picked Morgan up and ran back to the FA Headquarters. Neither of the Sterling brothers noticed the pair of golden snake eyes watching from the shadows.
