Work Text:
The last thing the team wanted was to stay another night in a small town in New Hampshire. They all felt more than ready to leave the place after having solved a gruesome and tiring case and they had been well on their way to doing so; bags packed and jet getting readied for departure, when the weather had decided differently.
It had been freezing for the last few days and it had been snowing on and off, but this? This was a disaster. Heavy snow had been falling for the past two hours and it didn\t look like it was going to stop anytime soon. Combined with the heavy winds it seemed like they would be stuck here for at least one more night.
Spencer furrowed his brows as he tried to peer out of the window, but he saw nothing but white. They had been sitting in the lobby of the small bed and breakfast while they had been trying to wait out the horrible snowstorm.
“I think it’s time we admit defeat,” Rossi said, breaking the silence and saying what everyone had been thinking. “The snow is not going to stop anytime soon.” He glanced over at Aaron who nodded.
“Let me see if we can get our rooms back for another night,” Aaron said with a sigh, getting up and making his way over towards the check in desk.
Spencer slumped into one of the chairs, rubbing his cold hands together. “It’s freezing in here,” he mumbled.
“That’s all you,” Morgan teased. “How can you be wearing, what, like five-six layers, and still be cold?”
Spencer grumbled something underneath his breath as he tucked his knees up.
“I need to call Will,” Jj sighed, “let him know I won’t be home tonight. Henry’s going to be so disappointed.”
“I was so excited to sleep in my own bed tonight,” Prentiss sighed, “I had it all planned out. There’s a bottle of wine waiting with my name on it. I was going to order my favorite food and pour myself a nice, warm bath.” She sighed longingly.
Spencer nodded somberly. “I was so excited to watch Doctor Who,” he said, resting his head back and he sighed. “Hopefully we can get out of here tomorrow.”
Morgan mumbled something underneath his breath that sounded close to an agreement.
When Aaron rejoined their group he didn’t look too excited. “We can stay here for an additional two nights. Now, don’t look at me like that. It’s just a precaution,” he said, “we will have to share rooms however. There were only four rooms available.”
“Dibs,” Morgan said instantly, grabbing one of the keys Aaron was holding out.
“I am not rooming together. I have done that enough in college,” Rossi said.
With an audible sigh Aaron handed him one of the keys. “Jj, Prentiss, are you guys okay with sharing a room?” He asked.
“That’s fine by me,” Prentiss said, “at least I won’t be miserable alone.”
Realization was slowly beginning to sink in, even before Aaron had turned to him. Spencer and Aaron had shared a room before, but it had been ages ago, and lately things between them had been rather tense. Spencer had always had a hard time keeping his feelings for Aaron in check. His little crush on him so far had been successfully kept a secret, but over the last few months something had changed between them.
Whenever they locked eyes it lasted a few seconds too long. There were numerous times Spencer had caught Aaron watching him; staring at him from across the room or watching him as he worked. Touches had begun to linger a little longer than normal and occasionally Spencer and Aaron would be so rapt up in conversation that they forgot everything and everyone around them.
“Reid?” Aaron’s voice cut through Spencer’s reminiscing.
“Yes?” He said, his voice a little more squeaky than he would have liked and his cheeks flushed as he cleared his throat. “Sorry I was just uhm.. thinking. What is it?”
Aaron’s eyes lit up with what Spencer could only recognize as amusement. “Are you comfortable with sharing a room?” He asked.
Spencer nodded. “Yes- yes of course, it’s no problem at all,” he said. He looked around and noticed that everyone else had already gone up to their rooms. He quickly got up, almost stumbling over his own feet. Graceful.
They collected their bags and walked towards the elevator. Spencer’s lips pressed together. The silence between them only broken by the soft ping of the elevator, followed by the sound of the doors sliding open.
They stepped inside. Spencer watched as Aaron pressed the button for the third floor. He cleared his throat. “Is it alright if I shower first? I am freezing,” he said, glancing over at Aaron.
The older man nodded. “Of course,” he promised.
The elevator pinged again once they reached the third floor. The two stepped out and made their way to one of the six rooms on the floor. Theirs was all the way at the end, giving a hint of false privacy that didn’t do anything to ease the growing nerves in Spencer’s stomach.
He knew the nerves were unnecessary. Nothing was going to happen between them. There wasn’t anything between them. Spencer’s observations could have simply been hope induced daydreaming or hope induced delusion whichever term was preferred. There was simply no way that Aaron Hotchner would ever look at someone like him twice.
Spencer stepped into the room and placed his bag down on one of the empty chairs, mentally groaning at the fact that there was only one king sized bed, but he decided to keep any comments to himself because there wasn’t anything they could do about it and he honestly just wanted this night to be over.
A part of him wanted to run off and disappear, hide in Morgan’s room or even Rossi’s. What was he supposed to say if he just showed up at Morgan’s room? Hey, I am sorry, I can’t room with my boss because I have a raging crush on him and the idea of sharing a bed with him terrifies me? Yeah- no, that would be a disaster.
So instead he just opened his bag and reached for some clean clothes, glad that he always brought extra’s, before slipping into the bathroom. He locked the door behind him and rested his head against the cold wood with a soft sigh.
He knew he was acting weird. He should really get his shit together. It was easy to stay composed, to act normal around Aaron when they were surrounded by the team or so engrossed in his work that he didn’t even have the time or energy to think about the man in question.
This was completely new territory. Spencer knew he was psyching himself out by worrying so much, especially since there was nothing to worry about. All he had to do was take a shower, get dressed, crawl into bed and sleep next to Aaron Hotchner. No big deal.
No big deal at all.
–
When Spencer left the bathroom he was absolutely freezing. The snow fall outside hadn’t slowed down and it didn’t seem like it would do so anytime soon either. Spencer was shivering from the cold, his arms wrapped around himself. It didn’t help that his hair was wet.
“Cold?”
Spencer startled. For a second he had forgotten about Aaron. He wasn’t quite sure how that was possible. He turned around and sent the man a small smile. “A little,” he admitted, tilting his head to the side. “Working still?” He asked.
Aaron shrugged guiltily. “Just wanting to try and get a head start on paperwork. I hope the snow will lighten up enough for us to leave tomorrow, but who knows.”
“I hope so. I don’t want to stay here any longer than necessary.” Spencer sat down on the bed.
With a sigh Aaron placed his pen down, his eyes roaming over Spencer for a second; taking in his slightly flushed cheeks and wet curls. Combined with the shirt that was a little too big the man looked absolutely breathtaking.
“I am going to take a quick shower,” Aaron cleared his throat, a softness to his eyes Spencer couldn’t quite place. “You don’t have to wait up if you don’t want to,” he said.
“I can wait, it’s no big deal,” Spencer promised. He got up and walked over to his bag, grabbing one of the handful of books out of it. “I have been wanting to read this for ages so, don’t feel the need to rush.”
“You will probably have that finished by the time I get out of the shower,” Aaron said, a playful smile on his face.
Spencer shrugged his shoulders with a sheepish smile. “Maybe. I don’t read nearly as fast when I read for my own enjoyment, but I guess that yes, I still read much faster than the average person so there is a chance that I might finish it. Depending on how long you shower. You don’t strike me as a thirty to forty-five minute shower guy.”
Aaron shook his head. “I am not,” he admitted. He reached for his clean clothes and left to take a shower, leaving Spencer to watch his retreating back.
Spencer sat down on the bed. He scooted underneath the sheets, shivering as he did so. At least the blankets were thick and warm.Hopefully he would feel warmer soon enough. It wasn’t that the bed and breakfast wasn’t nice. Everyone had been very welcoming and kind, Spencer just preferred the comfort of his own home after rounding up a case.
With a sigh Spencer opened his book and began to read; trying to focus on the words on the paper, but his mind was wandering. The sound of the shower was distracting. Spencer couldn’t help, but wonder about what Aaron must look like right now. ‘He could imagine the water dripping down his chest, muscles defined and arms flexing. Aaron’s arms often drove him crazy. Everything about Aaron drove him crazy.
It wasn't rare for Spencer to fantasize about Aaron, but the idea of fantasizing of the man’s hands roaming over his body and that deep gravelly voice speaking to him when the object of his affection was only mere meters away left him filled hot with shame.
–
The shower shut off and all Spencer had managed to read was an embarrassing thirty-two pages. It was much slower than what he would normally read, but his mind had been far too preoccupied to focus.
He looked up when the door opened, his eyes widened slightly at the sight of Aaron. His short hair was sticking to his forehead, wet and still dripping. Spencer’s eyes wandered down to Aaron’s strong forearms. His tongue moved across his bottom lip to wet it. He knew that if Aaron looked over at him right now, he would notice his dilated pupils and longing stares.
He followed Aaron’s movement as he walked through the hotel room, watching his upper arms flex as the man began to rifle through his bag.
“Are you enjoying your book?” Aaron asked when the man lifted his head and locked eyes with Spencer, a flicker of amusement in his eyes. “You don’t seem like you’ve read much. Something on your mind?”
“What?” Spencer all but squealed, his eyes widened. “Oh uhm- you know,” he held up the book sheepishly. “Just.. busy thinking about work and other uhm- non-interesting, non-embarrassing things,” he said.
He was convinced that his cheeks were a bright red. He avoided Aaron’s eyes as he adjusted the blanket over his lap. He hesitated before placing the book to the side. “Too tired to read, I guess,” he said, adding yet another excuse to his long list of excuses.
“Maybe we should head to bed. You worked yourself to the bone during this case,” Aaron said as he slowly made his way to the bed.
Spencer swallowed thickly as he watched Aaron, giving a small nod. “That sounds like a good idea,” he forced out, a shy smile on his face as he watched Aaron lift up his side of the covers and climb into bed next to him.
Spencer pressed himself to his side of the bed the best he could, shivering underneath the sheets. He didn’t want to be too close to Aaron, scared the man would notice the tension in his body.
“Are you alright Spencer?” Aaron asked, “I am not making you uncomfortable am I?”
The way Spencer’s first name rolled off the man’s lips caused his cheeks to flush. It sounded so good coming from that deep, manly voice. It did nothing to ease the growing tension in his body and the embarrassing need coursing through his body.
“You aren’t making me uncomfortable,” Spencer finally said. He looked over, only to find Aaron already facing him as he laid on his side.
“Are you sure? You look tense. Are you cold?” Aaron asked, head resting on his hand as he watched Spencer.
“Freezing,” Spencer admitted, “and don’t say anything- Morgan already teases me for that enough.” He pulled the blanket higher.
“I wasn’t planning on teasing you,” Aaron said, smirking slightly, “all though the way you always have to layer up in like– ten pieces of clothing is rather adorable.”
Spencer was convinced his hearing was betraying him. There was no way that Aaron had used the word adorable in reference to him. “Oh-” He sputtered, his cheeks flushing. “I wouldn’t quite.. describe it that way, but uhm, thank you,” he managed to force out.
If only he had Morgan’s confidence or Garcia’s flirtiness. Instead all he had was his own awkwardness and ability to overthink every word threatening to slip past his lips. The best he could do was force himself to not look away from Aaron’s gaze.
Aaron’s eyes softened again, crinkling up in a fondness that Spencer wasn’t used to seeing directed at him. “If you are cold you can scoot closer. I don’t bite,” he said, his voice deep and gravely.
Spencer's eyes widened a little and he nodded. “Thanks for the offer,” he said. “I will keep it in mind.”
He moved a little further away from the edge of the bed. “I think I am going to try to sleep,” he whispered.
Aaron nodded. “Goodnight Spencer,” he said, reaching behind him to turn off the lamp.
“Goodnight Hotch.”
Spencer had a hard time falling asleep. Outside he could hear the wind roaring around the building. The snow hadn’t seemed to lighten up yet. Spencer was painfully aware of how close Aaron was to him. He could feel the heat radiating off the man’s body, could hear the even breathing falling from his lips and could notice the slow rise and fall of the man’s chest.
He pulled the blanket higher and found himself scooting a little closer to the other man.
A soft mumble escaped Aaron’s lips; the man barely awake and he wrapped an arm around Spencer, loose enough for the man to be able to easily roll over and move away.
Spencer’s eyes widened. He glanced over at Aaron, but it was hard to make out the man’s expression in the dark, but from his even breathing it was fair to assume that the man had fallen back asleep.
He couldn’t help, but relax at the warmth radiating off of Aaron. He knew it wasn’t fair to indulge in whatever this was, but he found himself desperately noting that he would never get this chance again. So instead he allowed himself to enjoy the gentle embrace, hoping that Aaron’s reaction in the morning wouldn’t make him feel too guilty.
—
Spencer woke up from a hint of far too bright sunlight shining through a gap in the curtain. He let out a soft groan and shielded his face with his arm. He tried to move and only then became fully aware of his current predicament. He blinked a few times and forced himself to lift his head up from the comfortable pillow.
He had somehow pressed himself further against Aaron and the man’s arm had only tightened around his waist, a large hand spread out against his lower back. And Aaron..
Aaron was already awake, but by his sleepy expression he hadn’t been awake for very long.
Spencer’s cheeks flushed a bright red and he slowly moved away. Aaron’s arm fell away. He instantly missed the warmth and the comfort and the safety that such a simple touch had provided.
“I- sorry,” he said, eyes widened. “I didn’t mean to uhm-” he ran his hands through his messy curls. “What time is it?”
“Far too early,” Aaron said and his deep raspy voice caused a shiver to run up Spencer’s spine. How could someone sound so sexy?
“I should be the one to apologize, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable,” Aaron added.
Spencer found himself shaking his head almost viciously. “No- don’t worry, you didn’t make me uncomfortable. I promise.” His eyes widened when Aaron didn’t seem convinced. “Quite the opposite which is a whole nother problem but ignore I ever said that, it’s not important. I didn’t mean to say that out loud, at all. Uhm- I should probably head down and grab some coffee. You know me and my coffee-” He let out an awkward laugh that sounded pathetically fake even to his own ears.
Aaron watched Spencer. “Spencer? Slow down- take a deep breathe” he said, resting a careful hand against the man’s forearm to stop him from getting up. “It’s barely six,” he said, “there’s no need to get up yet. You didn’t say anything wrong,” he said, “it just caught me by surprise is all.”
Spencer didn’t dare to meet Aaron’s eyes. “Sorry,” he breathed out, “I don’t know where that came from.”
His eyes widened as Aaron’s other hand moved to rest against his jaw, forcing him to look up and meet his eyes.
“For such a talented and smart profiler, you have been ignoring a lot of cues,” Aaron said, his voice soft and his words deliberate.
Spencer swallowed thickly. “What are you trying to say?” He whispered, scared that if he spoke too loud he would ruin the moment they were having.
“I know you can figure it out,” Aaron said, tilting his head to the side, “it’s already all there, in that beautiful mind of yours, you just have to put it all together.”
Spencer’s eyes fluttered shut and he took a deep breath. He knew what Aaron was referring to; the gentle touches, longing glances, soft smiles. Over the past few weeks, months even, Aaron had been there; making sure he was alright after cases and coming over to his desk to make conversation more than he used to. They had been radiating towards each other for a long time now. Maybe Spencer hadn’t been so delusional after all.
“Unless I’ve misread the signals and I am now making you incredibly uncomfortable and if that’s the case, I am sorry. It won’t happen again.” Aaron’s voice cut through Spencer’s thoughts; that guarded expression back on his face..
Spencer met Aaron’s eyes and he shook his head, once, twice. “No, no you didn’t,” he said. “You definitely didn’t,” he added, “I just- I never thought that someone like you would ever be interested in someone like me.”
“You shouldn’t cut yourself short like that,” Aaron said, firm but with a fondness that he couldn’t quite hide or maybe he just didn’t bother to try. “You, Spencer Reid, have been catching my eye for longer than you can imagine.”
Spencer searched Aaron’s eyes, looking for anything that might show that the man was in fact lying, but he couldn’t find it. “I have?”
Aaron nodded. “Spencer?”
“Yes?” Spencer responded, barely finding his voice.
“Can I kiss you?” Aaron asked.
Spencer felt himself nodding. “I- yes, you can,” he said.
He met Aaron’s lips halfway, closing the gap with a newfound urgency. His eyes fluttered shut and he whimpered into the kiss. Aaron’s lips were firm yet soft. One of his hands moved to rest in Aaron’s short, black hair, pulling the older man closer against him.
The kiss moved from gentle and careful to heated quickly. Their lips moving against one another with desperation.
Spencer whimpered as Aaron playfully bit down on his bottom lip. He parted his lips instantly, allowing Aaron’s tongue to enter his mouth. He pushed himself closer, wanting to feel him everywhere, close every gap between them.
Aaron, in response to Spencer’s eagerness, smirked into the kiss.
When they pulled apart they were both breathless. Spencer panted lightly, his pupils blown as he stared up into Aaron’s darkened eyes.
“God Spencer, you have no clue how long I have been wanting to do that,” Aaron said, his voice a little breathless and Spencer whimpered pathetically at the rough edge to it.
There was something about Aaron’s voice, deep and authoritative, that made Spencer want to drop down onto his knees and give himself to the older man in whatever way imaginable.
“Mmm,” Spencer hummed noncommittally as a way of response, far too interested in kissing Aaron again so that was what he did.
He gasped softly as Aaron pulled him closer, almost straddling the older man in response.
He pulled away, nuzzling his face against the man’s neck and pressing soft kisses against his jaw and neck.
“Fuck..” Aaron gasped.
Hearing Aaron curse might be the hottest thing Spencer had ever heard. He was about to kiss him again when Aaron flipped them over, hovering over Spencer and watching him with darkened eyes.
“Spencer?”
“Yes-“ the younger man said, lips parted.
“Can I touch you?” Aaron asked, pressing a soft kiss underneath Spencer’s ear. “If it’s too fast you have to-“
Spencer shook his head, not giving Aaron time to finish. “Not too fast. Not too fast at all.”
He had been wanting this for a long time, an embarrassing amount he didn’t even want to confess.. The amount of times he had caught himself daydreaming about Aaron’s hands and lips while they had been working would be enough to fire him on the spot.
“Good,” Aaron said, “just wanting to make sure.”
Spencer gasped as one of Aaron’s hands slid underneath his shirt. His eyes widened as Aaron’s fingers danced over his chest. His back arched as Aaron’s fingers flicked over his nipple, eyes falling shut.
“Oh-” he moaned, his eyes widening seconds after once he realized the embarrassing sound that had escaped his lips. When Aaron’s fingers flicked over his nipple again he bit down on his bottom lip to stop himself from moaning again.
“Don’t do that,” Aaron said, “I want to hear you. Please let me hear you.”
Spencer shivered as Aaron’s hand moved down, sliding into his sweatpants. “Oh- oh fuck,” he moaned and Aaron grinned at the realization that he had managed composed Spencer to moan from barely even touching him.
Spencer’s own hands began to wander across Aaron’s body, his hips pressing up into the man’s hand, desperate for any type of friction.
“So needy,” Aaron said, lips so close to Spencer’s ear that the younger man shivered.
Spencer gasped as Aaron’s hand slid into his boxers and wrapped around his already hard cock. He moaned, head falling back as Aaron began to stroke him slowly.
“Aaron,” he moaned, buckling up in the older man’s hand.
Aaron kissed him, successfully swallowing some of Spencer’s moans as he continued to stroke him.
Spencer’s hand slid into Aaron’s boxers, wrapping his hand around Aaron’s cock. He smirked at the moan falling from Aaron’s lips.
They moaned as they made out, breathing raspy and needy. Spencer’s thumb flicked over the head of Aaron’s cock.
“Aaron-” Spencer gasped as they pulled apart to catch their breath, eyes falling shut. “I am close,” he admitted, his eyes falling shut as Aaron flicked his wrist in a way that had Spencer bucking up in his hands desperately.
“Come for me,” Aaron whispered, “I want to see you come.”
Spencer came with a soft cry of Aaron’s name, arm draped over his face to muffle his moans. He arched his back, moaning as Aaron continued to stroke him through his orgasm.
He collapsed against the mattress, his own hand having stilled for a second before he picked up stroking Aaron with newfound enthusiasm.
“Yes- just like that,” Aaron gasped.
Spencer watched as he stroked Aaron to his orgasm, watching the man’s lips part as he came. The fact that Aaron was moaning his name was almost too much. Aaron rolled off of him, collapsing onto the mattress next to him.
For a second the room was quiet, filled with heavy breathing and soft pants. Spencer let out a breathless chuckle as he rolled onto his side, facing Aaron.
“This was not how I had expected my morning to go,” Spencer admitted, a lazy smile on his face.
Aaron let out a soft laugh. “Not mine either, I promise this is not usually how I confess my feelings for someone,” he said.
“Well, maybe you should take me out properly then,” Spencer said, not sure where that confidence came from. Maybe because Aaron had just given him one of the best orgasms he had ever had.
“Once we are back home, I will take you on a date,” Aaron promised.
Spencer smiled, “I would like that. A lot.”
