Work Text:
Loki raced through the crowd, his child in his arms. The enemy group was getting closer and he couldn't risk them hurting Freya. Oh, why did he take her on this mission!? He thought it would be a nice learning experience, but it turned out to be a fight for their lives. He should've listened to Mobius.
The enemies kept chasing them and yelling while Freya cried silently in her mothers arms. She was frightened, of course, and Loki wanted to hit himself for making his baby feel such terror. Loki spotted an alley they could dodge into, hopefully without getting noticed. He passed Freya, who was getting bigger everyday, into one arm while fumbling for his tempad with the other. Eventually, he managed to get it out just in time to dodge into the alley. He opened a portal to gods know where and ran through.
The next thing he knew, he was very high up in the air and crashing through a large window into a building. Loki clutched Freya tight and tried his hardest to land on his back so she wouldn't be hurt. He succeeded, but in doing so hit his head hard on the floor and blacked out.
---
"That's definitely him."
"But why is he dressed like that? And whose child did he kidnap!?"
"I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation, Clint."
"It's Loki, there's never a 'reasonable explanation'".
"Shut up you two, he's waking up."
Loki opened his eyes to see a bright light practically blinding him from above. He was laying on a tiled floor in a small cell. To his left was a glass wall that allowed him to see the people who had been talking before. A red-haired woman, a man dressed in purple, and a man with glasses. The Avengers, Loki realized. He got up as quickly as he could, though it caused him a lot of pain. He backed up a few steps until he almost hit the back wall and raised his hands up. "I assure you, I mean no harm."
"I find that hard to believe." Clint Barton glared at him with the intensity of a man filled with deep rage. "Why should we trust you?" Natasha's voice was calm, but deadly, much like a real Black Widow. She looked at Loki with intelligent eyes, she was clearly trying to analyze him. "It's hard to explain," Loki began "but I am not the Loki you know. I am from another timeline. I landed here by mistake." Loki kept his hands raised just in case they felt like opening the cell and shooting him. "Uh-huh, sure." Clint was still, understandably, not convinced. Neither were Natasha and Bruce.
"I know it sounds crazy but if you would just let me explain-" Loki reached for his daughters hand only to grab nothing but air. "Freya." He said, he was panicking now. "Where's Freya!?" he marched to the front of the cell and slammed his hands against the glass. The trio outside flinched. "Where is she!? What did you do to her!?" Loki knew this behavior wouldn't help his case, but he didn't care. He just needed his daughter back. "The child is fine." Bruce said, crossing his arms. "She's with Thor and Tony."
"Thor's here?" Loki lowered his hands from the glass. "Let me speak to him, please. I need to see him." Loki never thought he would be begging The Avengers for anything, but here he was, acting like a helpless animal. Natasha looked sympathetic but still remained in her usual demeanor. "We will take him to you." she said. "What? Nat, are you crazy?" Clint turned to her, shocked at her compliance with the man that ruined his life. "If anyone knows how to deal with Loki, it's Thor. We should've asked him for guidance in the first place." and with that, Natasha walked past her colleagues, into the hallway, and out of sight. Presumably, to go fetch Thor from wherever he was. Loki, Bruce, and Clint stood in awkward silence until she returned with Thor.
Thor saw his brother and ran to the cell. "What are you doing here, brother!?" his tone was a mix of confusion, anger, and relief. "That's a long story." Loki sighed "But I am very happy to see you Thor. I've missed you." Thor's face turned into a look of pure confusion. "You missed me?" "Of course I did. Like I told these three, I am not your Loki. I am from a different timeline. I'm not supposed to be here."After a long pause, Thor said "I want to believe you, but I can't."
Loki nodded sadly "I understand...Can I at least see my daughter? I promised I would get her home safe." "Your...daughter?" Natasha was the only one able to form words. "Yes," Loki crossed his arms "my daughter. She was the child I arrived with. Her name is Freya and I would like to see her."
"I don't believe him. I mean whose to say he didn't kidnap the poor thing?" Clint said. He was still not convinced, and probably never would be. "You don't have to believe me, I just want to leave with my child and go home." Loki dropped his arms and took another step closer to the glass "Please?" "...Fine." Bruce said, he opened Loki's cell. "But if you try anything, the other guy won't hesitate to beat you to a pulp again." he pointed a finger at Loki.
"Understood." Loki stayed in his cell until the group guided him through the hallway. They eventually arrived at a room that looked like a lab. Two of the walls were glass, so Loki could see inside. He saw Freya. His safety be damned, he broke free from Clint's hold and burst into the room. He ran to his daughter and scooped her up in his arms, squeezing her tight. "Mama!" Freya cried. She missed her mama so much and she was finally back in his arms. "Oh, my darling, it's okay. Mama's here. No one's gonna hurt you." Loki wasn't sure if he was comforting Freya, or himself.
Meanwhile, The Avengers stood around the two, confused out of their minds. Finally, Tony broke the silence, "Okay, what the actual fuck is going on here!?" Loki sat on a nearby stool and cradled Freya in his lap. "It's like I told you, I am not your Loki." Loki kissed his daughter's golden hair and held her close. "Mama?" Freya looked up at him. "Yes my love?" "Where are we?"
Loki looked around, not sure how to answer her. "With some old friends." he settled on that answer, the simplest one for a toddler. "She really is your child." Thor said as he approached them. Loki stood and handed Freya to Thor. He took her in his arms with caution. "Hello there, I am Thor, I'm your uncle." Freya's little red eyes lit up. She turned to her mother "Really!?" she asked. Loki nodded, smiling. Freya turned back to Thor and gave him a hug. Thor looked as if he was going to explode with happiness. He held his niece close and Loki saw Natasha smile out of the corner of his eye.
"How old is she?" Bruce asked. "She's five. She ages more like a God but she still has some of her human qualities. Her father is human." "Wait, wait, wait, so you really are her mom? I thought she was just confused about the terminology." Tony looked the most shocked, along with Clint, who was still trying to wrap his head around Loki being a decent individual. "Yes, I was the one who gave birth to her. I am a woman sometimes, just not today." Loki took Freya back from Thor and sat back down on the stool with her. Freya began playing with her mothers tie. "To answer your other questions, I was taken from my timeline by an organization called the Time Variance Authority. They said I had diverged from my path on the 'sacred timeline'. There was an analyst there named Mobius who told me he needed my help hunting a variant of myself. He had spent his life studying mine and wanted to make sure I wasn't killed by the TVA. We hunted the variant and we were able to work with her in order to save the timelines. She is now a friend of mine, her name is Sylvie. We rebuilt the TVA to be a place that protects the timelines instead of destroying them. Me and Mobius go on missions together. He is my husband and Freya's father. I love him very much, and I love the life we have built together." Loki smiled down at his daughter and stroked her little head.
"So, how did you end up here?" Natasha asked. The Avengers seemed like they were starting to believe him. "I ignorantly took Freya on a mission, hoping it would teach her something. My husband said not to, and I should've listened to him. We were jumped by a group of gangsters in 1946 America. In order to keep them from hurting Freya, I used my tempad to jump to a random timeline, and crashed into your home. I do apologize about the window, by the way." Loki turned to Tony. "It's fine, i'm rich I can fix it." Tony waved a hand dismissively. "How do we get you home?" Thor asked. He was worried about his brother. "Judging by the broken tempad on the table behind me, I think I have to wait until Mobius works out where I am and comes to get me." Loki was now letting Freya play with his fingers as he addressed the room. "So, we just wait here for God knows how long until your pookie-bear picks you up?" Tony asked. Loki cringed at the nickname given to his husband and nodded. "Great, awesome, cool, I have to just be around Loki for awhile!" Clint waved his arms around anxiously.
"I do apologize for what I did to you, even if it wasn't technically me." Loki looked at Clint with genuine sympathy in his eyes. "I don't forgive you, but i'll accept it." Clint took a step closer to Natasha, who placed a hand on his shoulder to keep him grounded. Loki found himself to be rather fond of their friendship.
The Avengers waited around with Loki for about three hours as he told them stories of his time at the TVA. He told them of the missions he went on with Mobius, the pranks he pulled with Sylvie, the machines he built with O.B, the gossip he had with B-15, and the antics with Casey. The Avengers were, despite themselves, invested. Loki was about to tell them a story about Freya when a time-door opened in the middle of the lab. Out came Mobius, looking stressed and exhausted out of his mind. He turned to see his husband and daughter and ran to embrace them as Loki stood up from his stool. "There you both are!" Mobius kissed Loki's cheek and his daughters forehead. "This is why you don't take her on missions." Loki sighed "I know, I'm sorry." Mobius turned to address The Avengers. "Sorry about this guys, Loki can be a dumbass sometimes." Loki looked highly offended and Natasha chuckled. "It's alright," she said "he wasn't that bad." "Good." Mobius said as he took his husband's hand and guided him to the time-door. "Wait." Loki said and handed his daughter to his husband. Loki turned to Thor and gave him a big hug. Thor returned it with tears in his eyes. "I lost my Thor. Thank you for believing in me, brother." Loki patted Thor's shoulder and went through the time-door.
"Huh, Loki married a basic white guy, who would've guessed." Tony shrugged and went back to his work. "Welp, that was weird, i'm going to bed." Clint left the room with a peace sign thrown at his friends. Natasha followed. Bruce joined Tony at his work bench and Thor went to his room to figure out how to fix things with his Loki.
---
Back at their little apartment in the TVA. Loki and Mobius tucked their daughter into bed and went to rest on their own. "I'm glad you're okay." Mobius said as he took his husband's hand. They were sat side by side under the covers. Loki leaned his head against Mobius' shoulder. "I'm glad we're okay too." Mobius stroked Loki's hair and kissed his head. Loki smiled and leaned up to plant a kiss on his husband's lips. Mobius returned the kiss with as much love as he could muster. "I love you." Loki said when he pulled away. "I love you too, you reckless bastard." Mobius pressed his forehead to Loki's and sighed. Grateful for his daughter, and grateful for his Loki.
