Chapter Text
“Hello.”
They greeted, their voices chiming at the same time.
”Hello”
They said again, though this time, it was the one on the right.
“Hello”
Said the one on the left.
Then they fell into silence.
“I do not know what to say.”
The one on the left speaks again, their voice carrying easily in the soft void these two formless organisms found themselves in.
“Then do not say anything.”
The one on the right responds, their voice shier, but not weaker than their companion.
“But I do not like the silence.”
“Then do not let it settle.”
“Where are we?”
“Home, I suppose.”
“Home? This nothingness, home?”
“Yes. Home. We originated from here, did we not? Is that not what home is?”
“I do not know much about a home, and surely you do not either.”
Their voice was irritated as they spoke, their soundwaves sharp and piercing as they settled into the nothingness once more.
“....”
“How do we know how to communicate with one another?”
The left spoke again, ever one to poke and prod at the universe, though they do not know it yet.
“Luck?” They humm, “Luck, I think.”
“I am not so lucky to be in your presence.”
“Whose presence would you prefer?”
“Not yours.”
“Then nothing?”
“No, not nothing, but not you, so someone else.”
“We do not know of a someone else. Only us, and Home.”
“I can imagine a someone else, someone far better than you in every way.”
“You do not know of something better than I, as I am now.”
“I can assume that the better version of you would be everything you are not.”
“I suppose so.”
“We have just met, why do you have such a large distaste for me?”
“I do not know, you simply irritate me, as if it is apart of my being to be irritated by you. Perhaps, this is a form of torture.”
“Who would torture you so? Surely not I, as I have no large amount of autonomy, and neither do you.”
“Perhaps whatever put us here?”
“Maybe.”
“Do you think they can hear us? In this nothingness?”
“No, I think not, for we cannot hear them, and surely if they were to hear us we would be able to hear them.”
“Then why are we here?”
“I suppose, we do not know.”
“We do not know if there is someone else outside, either.”
“But we do hope.”
“Yes.”
“But why?”
“I do not know, for I am not older nor wiser than you are.”
“Yet you know what wisdom is, and age.”
“
I do, but you do too. We know everything that we speak of.”
“But not those above us.”
“No. However, by this string of logic, it would make sense for there to be someone above us.”
“If we know, or think about them, as a concept, it would make sense for them to exist?”
“Yes, yes I think so.”
“So, we know that there must be something outside this nothingness, for if there was not, we would have no concept of the outside in the first place.”
“We know there are things with bodies, and eyes, and fur, and hair, and all of these things that make up an organism.”
“Yes, and we know that an organism is a single being with many separate parts. The organism cannot survive without the parts, as the parts cannot survive without the organism.”
“So, these parts, are bodies, and eyes and fur and hair.”
“I belive so.”
“We can therefore create an image of those outside then, from what concepts we know of.”
“Those outside, must be furry, hairy things, with many different senses for consuming and touching.”
“But they must also be hard things, with shells and scales, and sharp talons as well.”
“They can swim, and are sleek.”
“But they can fly, and are rugged.”
“Curious things, those outside.”
“Very much so.”
“I would like to meet them one day, would you?”
“Yes, I would like to meet them as well.”
