Multiverse Monday #2 Mafia (or Organized Crime)

For the second warning--this is not friendly towards Maddie. At all. So don't get pissy. I warned you.

Work Text:

Evan Buckley is an adrenaline addict extraordinaire. He came a long way from jumping makeshift ramps and climbing trees to joining an elite military team. Evan considered himself to be a jack of all trades. Military, construction, ranching, bartending, and drug running.

Yes, drugs. No he doesn't do them.

During his time in Peru, Evan was bartending. What he didn't know was that the hotel he worked for was owned by the cartel. It wasn't the first time. Many construction businesses hired him because they were either mob or cartel. But this will be the first time they recruited him to run drugs for them. Soon Evan liked it, it appealed to his adrenaline side, the danger of the possibility of getting caught. Which never happened to him. And the amount of money he earned didn't hurt either.

More than double he was making as a bartender.

After a year of running Buck was making his way up the ladder. Until one day he became Lieutenant to the Captain (the second in command). Evan's primary job was protecting Rosita, an adorable three year old and her mother Martina, the Boss' daughter. He probably only got the job because he is gay. Evan long ago gave up on women and decided to stick to his own gender. Less drama that way.

At least until he joined the cartel. Drama galore started when he got his first promotion. Now there are rumors of him sleeping with the Captain and the Boss. Only one of those are true. The biggest secret in the cartel.

The second biggest secret is that Evan is Rosita's adopted father. Martina needed a backup plan in case something happens. Evan has been instructed to take Rosa and run, to never look back until his Captain, his Boss, or Martina find them.

The day they had never hoped to happen was a day after Evan's twenty-fifth birthday. He took the packed bags and Rosa, running to the hidden tunnels. The rival cartel attacked, looking for Rosita and to kill Evan's family. But he didn't look back, didn't tap into his SEAL side to kill them. He focused on Rosa, keeping her safe is his priority.

At the end of the tunnel was a car. Clean and under the Buckley name. It was also packed with more clothes, pictures, paperwork, and money. Evan did everything he could to not draw attention to himself and Rosa as they drove out of Peru. He went north, not stopping until he hit Los Angeles.

The first thing he did was buy a house. The house was under Evan Alvarez. It was a common enough name. Next he enrolled Rosa into school. An early childhood center that is also a daycare. So Rosa will stay with them most of the day while Evan is at the fire academy. Rosa is enrolled under Rosa Buckley and Evan is under Evan Buckley, much to his annoyance.

It was a process but they managed to find some contentment to relax after a few weeks. Rosa even a friend after the first week. Evan himself made a friend, but it wasn't another candidate. No this friend is a biker. To his surprise his Captain's American cousin.

Evan was able to set up a network in case he ever needed anything. In return Evan will help with the running. Even if it is no longer his job. What can he say, he misses it. Plus it is a little extra money since the academy doesn't pay.

Even in a large city with thousands of cops Evan doesn't get caught, doesn't pop up on dailies as a new player. And it is going to stay that way. He didn't make it to Lieutenant by making himself known to local law enforcement.

By the time he was out of the academy there was still no news of the war and many cartels were up in arms to make sure they were ready. Evan knew the war wouldn't reach outside of Peru. The Delgado rival Boss wasn't an idiot to go after them, especially any of the Mexican and Colombian cartels. It would look like a suicide mission.

When Evan, who now goes by Buck, became a firefighter at the 118, he didn't need to worry about Rosa. Marcus, the cousin, introduced him to his niece who lives in LA. Teodora, or Dora, was happy to watch Rosa when Evan was on a twenty-four. She'll get Rosa from daycare after she herself gets off work. Evan is paying her two hundred a week, plus supplying food for her. Evan really likes Dora, she reminds him so much of Martina. Bonus Rosa likes her too.

Things were going great for the small family. Even better that the 118 accepts Buck as a single parent and offers to help if he ever needs it or wants to give Dora a day off. Buck thanked them but he wasn't going to take them up on it. If Dora couldn't watch Rosa her mother will or Marcus' wife. It was the only way Evan had a guarantee that Rosa is safe at all times.

Then one day something threaten his daughter's safety. He doesn't know how she got in but he does guess she hired an investigator to find him. When the silent alarm went off and the inside cameras activated, Evan called Marcus. He called in a favor to get Maddie Kendall out of his house, interrogated on who her investigator is then to have her forced out of LA with the threat of death if she came back.

By the time his shift was over Marcus had the investigator caught. Evan didn't hesitate in killing him. He also made sure the death tied back to Maddie Kendall. Boston police arrested her when she arrived back to the city.

Last Evan heard there was a murder/suicide. Doug killed Maddie (probably for running away) then killed himself. Evan sent the Buckleys a postcard to tell them to leave him alone and never contact him. For they had no more children.

Things seem to settle until one Eddie Diaz entered the 118. Despite being aroused by the man, Buck was a little standoffish with him in the beginning, but by the end of the week they were friends. After the earthquake Christopher and Rosa were best friends like he and Eddie. Buck went out of his way to help the Diazes. Including introducing Eddie to Carla, who he met when Abby Clark started stalking him, and to Dora who said she'll keep Christopher if Eddie's other child care fell through.

When Eddie's estranged wife showed up suddenly Evan was tempted to get rid of her. But he couldn't hurt Eddie and Chris that way. It didn't last long anyway. Shannon got angry and made a scene in front of Eddie's grandmother and Chris. Eddie asked for a divorce. It was long and messy but Evan paid part of the lawyer fee in secret. Shannon didn't have a chance since she abandoned Christopher for a year.

Eddie got full custody and a divorce. Shannon left LA.

Buck called in another favor. Another Alvarez cousin paid Eddie's parents a visit to make sure they stay in El Paso. A good thing Eddie had a cousin who works for a cartel in Texas. They'll make sure the Diaz parents stay in the state.

Six months after the divorce Buck told Eddie the full truth. He also offered him the job of Enforcer. It took Eddie two months to accept Buck's secret and another month to accept the job.

Three years after Evan left Peru he finally got news. Delgado cartel won. They lost a large number, including Luis and Martina Delgado. Evan flew himself and Rosa back home for the funeral. Both of them cried over their loss. Evan for his husband and best friend (she was never a step daughter), and Rosa for her mother and grandfather. Diego, the Captain and Evan's adopted father, is set to take over the cartel. Evan with his father's blessing took Rosa back to LA.

It was safer there for her.

Nearly a year after the funerals Buck and Eddie started dating. The following year they got married. Eddie adopted Rosa, Evan adopted Chris.

They were happy. And the 118 never found out that the Diaz couple runs the Delgado American branch.
