Chapter Text
Nanami Kento was exhausted.
The lack of sleep from the night prior resting heavy behind his eyes as he tries to explain to his student where exactly they had gone wrong in their calculations. Nanami taught the Home Economics course at Jujutsu High, and currently his students were creating detailed financial and budgeting reports for their imaginary family.
Most days, Kento found immense satisfaction is his job; teaching young adults how to be better prepared for their future and set them up for success, as he himself was not effectively given those tools as a student.
However, on days like these, the twenty-seven-year-old teacher was grasping at straws, as he recalls staring at his alarm clock on his bedside table, watching as the minutes passed closer and closer to when his alarm would go off, unable to fall back asleep due to the four cups of coffee he chugged while grading papers. He marveled that he was able to fall asleep even for a little bit.
Yuji Itadori was a bright child. Full of energy and always a smile on his face, he was truly Nanami's favorite student, even if Itadori didn't quite understand the material at times.
This was one of those times.
"Nanamin, I don't know what I've done, but, looking at my budget, I think my family is going to be homeless."

As his last class of the day filtered out, Kento couldn't help but to nearly fall into his chair, eyes drifting close as he releases the tension he was holding in his shoulders. During his last class, an argument broke out between two of his students, Kamo Noritoshi and Todo Aoi, as Todo made his favorite idol his wife in his family illusion and Kamo believed that to be unreasonable.
His phone played a soft chime, reminding the teacher of the staff meeting occurring in the next few minutes. With a sigh, Nanami pulled himself up and stepped into the hallway, nearly colliding with Itadori.
"Itadori please do not run in the hallways." The boy slowed to a slight jog at this and called out a confirmation and apology over his shoulder. With a sigh, Nanami started his trek to the cafeteria after locking his classroom.
"Hey Nanami!" He turns at the calling of his name to see the language arts teacher, Geto Suguru, walking towards him, his two daughters, Mimiko and Nanako, a few paces behind him chattering about something on their phones. Kento returned the greeting to the nonchalant man, and they continued their walk together to the meeting, slightly chattering about their days.
As the four of them took their seats, one of the art teachers, Itadori Choso, claimed a seat next to them, his softer temperament mixing well with the other two teachers.
"So, Nanami how is my little brother doing in your class?" If one were to look at Choso and Yuji, they'd never be able to tell they were related, let alone siblings. But after teaching and working with the two, Nanami could see the passion that runs through the both of them, though he was not as close to the art teacher. "There is room for improvement, but he is a joy to have in the classroom."
"Ha! See? I told you!" The aforementioned pink haired teen popped up just then and took his seat next to his older sibling, a smug smile on his face. Before any of the teachers could lecture the younger Itadori about eavesdropping, Principal Yaga Masamichi and Vice Principal Zenin Naoya called the meeting to start.

After finishing the meeting, one that Nanami couldn't care less about, and saying his goodbyes to his students and fellow teachers, Kento drove himself to the bakery near his house. Normally Nanami takes immense joy from cooking himself dinner, but due to the lack of sleep of the night prior and the long day at work, he couldn't bring himself to go through the process of cooking and the clean-up that would soon follow.
As he looks around the little shop for his dinner, Kento is approached by a young man.
"Hello, do you come here often?" At this question Nanami raises a brow. "I ask because I just moved into the area for work, and I wanted an opinion on this?" Nanami looks away from the man's bright smile and sees a package of food. "I do come here a bit, and that one is a great choice." The man smiles even wider somehow and does a little hop. "Oh great! Thank you so much! I'm Yu Haibara by the way." A hand is extended out and Kento shakes it. "Kento Nanami. Glad I could help." Nanami picks out his dinner and walks to the register, the man following suit.
After the two men pay and make their way outside, Haibara smiles at Kento again. "Well thank you so much. I really appreciate your help!" Nanami returns the smile and the two of them part ways.
As Nanami starts his walk back to his car, he can't help but to look back at the strange man with a small smile.
