“Take my jacket, it’s cold outside.” Nathan pulled the jacket off, and placed it over Haley’s shoulders. “Don’t give me that look.”
“Nathan, keep the jacket.”
She pushed the jacket off her shoulders and handed it back to him, and Nathan shook his head. “Hales,” he began and looked at her, “I can tell that you are cold, and that you need it, so take it.” He didn’t really mind, he knew that the air was cool, but he still had his shirt, and he tried to be a good guy and offer Haley his jacket, but she seemed too stubborn to take it.
“Nathan.”
He felt her eyes on him, and a small breath left his lips as he looked over at her. “Let’s not fight about this, just take my jacket, it’s cold, and I’m not freezing and you are.” He had no idea why she didn’t want to take his jacket, “and if you don’t take it tell me why?” Nathan took a look at his jacket, and he couldn’t tell what was so wrong with it, was it because it was his, or because it just happens to have been his letterman jacket. “It’s not like I’m giving it to you, to wear all the time, it’s until you get home,” he huffed, rolling on his feet, hands in the pockets of his jeans, “tell why you won’t wear it and I’ll try and accept.”
“Please, don’t.”
Those words were all it took for him to get why she didn’t want to wear it, it was because of what kind of jacket it was, he felt hurt and angry, it wasn’t like he was letting anyone use it, he was pretty sure he had never really let anyone else wear it. “Whatever, freeze out there if that’s what you want.” He could hear a voice in his head telling him welcome back asshole, and there wasn't really anything he could do about it.
