Work Text:

The heist had been over for about a month, the gold had been taken from the lake, everyone’s bank account was filled and everyone had gone their separate ways. They stayed in contact of course, but it’s just a big change from seeing each other every day to living on a completely different continent than the rest of the team members. Denton had gone home, to live the rest of his life in peace. Camilla finally reunited with her family after eight years, but Luke didn’t think it would take her longer than about four months before she packs her bags and goes traveling because she wants to be in the company of Mi-Sun. Who was spending every moment that her grandmother is able to, with her grandmother, but facetiming Camilla whenever she could. Cyrus and Abby are happily living together, currently working out the last details before Abby can open her school. Magnus went to the Cajun stage at Jazz fest. And Luke had gone home to his poodle, back to a quiet life.

It felt weird honestly, being back in the small town he grew up in with probably more money than the town itself. Back to the house he had lived in before he met the team. He never sold it, it probably was one of the only consistent things in his life ever since he had joined the team. Everything was almost exactly the same, but also so different.

It was quite lonely though, his life became very repetitive compared to before. Every day felt the same. But going from having a life of thieving and having at least something of a social life, to the mundane life and only getting some texts throughout the day, was bound to do that.

Luke places the kettle on the stove to make tea, for him to drink while reading. His house somehow felt quiet, even though it wasn’t. There was music playing in the background, his poodle Hestia was walking around his house for seemingly no reason, the sound of water boiling that slowly turns into the whistling sound kettles make. The doorbell all of a sudden rings, Hestia starts barking at the sound. Luke doesn’t want to answer the door, because it most likely is a neighbor that wants to say something about him being back, talk about how he changed, ask him about if he went to visit his mother’s grave since he was back or if he had heard from his father since his parents divorce, ask him where he was all those years and why he didn’t take his poodle with him. It had happened multiple times since he came back. But now he can’t pretend he isn’t home to avoid the questions he didn’t want to answer, because every time he went out he took Hestia with him and because she was barking, the person ringing his bell probably knows he is home.

“Please stop barking” he says in a hushed tone, hoping that if she stops the person might think he isn’t home so he doesn’t have to answer the door. But she doesn’t. Instead she runs towards the door still barking. The bell rings again. He sighs as he’s walking to the door, he softly pushes Hestia away from the door so she won’t escape, she looks up at him and whimpers. “Oh don’t be so dramatic” he says with a small smile and the black poodle walks back into the living room. Luke sighs again and opens the door, hoping whoever it is will keep the conversation short.

But his annoyment quickly turns into confusion as he sees the person standing in front of him.

“What are you doing here?” Luke asks.

“Uum…” Magnus answers. He looks slightly disheveled, like he just decided to jump on a Plane from America to England. Which he probably did, because he only had a backpack with him.

Luke raises his eyebrow. It isn’t that he didn’t like that Magnus showed up, if he had to be honest ever since he came back he had wished for Magnus’s company, also for the rest of the team’s company of course, he missed all of them. But still, he just couldn’t help but want to be in the company of Magnus, more than the rest. He knows why, but he is never going to say that out loud, it’s not that he’s ashamed but he just thinks it is better to keep to himself, although he is pretty sure Mi-Sun knows. At Least she had implied something like that after he made a comment about her obvious crush on Camilla, which she apparently thought was not obvious at all. But he couldn’t help but wonder why Magnus just showed up, it just felt a bit weird that he was standing on his doorstep on a random Thursday.

“Um, well, I just felt like I needed to do something” Magus says, dogging any eye contact Luke is trying to make. He looks kind of hyper and maybe even conflicted, as if he's contemplating whether he should do or say something, or not.

“So you went on an about seven hour flight? What is that important? You could’ve texted me.”

“Excuse me, what did you say?” Luke asks, he could hear Magnus mumble something under his breath, but he didn’t hear what exactly.

But instead of responding Magus just looks at him, finally making eye contact, while Luke looks at him very confused. And then all of a sudden the blond kisses him.

Luke doesn’t know how to react, it’s like his brain completely shut down, so he just stands there until Magnus pulls away.

“I’m so sorry, just forget that, you know what I’m gonna go, yeah” Magnus says as he turns around to leave.

“Magnus, wait”

Magnus turns around, “I know, I’m sorry, let’s just pretend it didn’t—” he says but he gets interrupted by Luke grabbing his face and kissing him. And unlike Luke himself Magnus reacted almost immediately by placing one of his hands on Luke's shoulder, the other on his neck and kissing him back.

As they slowly walk into Luke’s house, lips still connected, the sound of the kettle whistling, and Hestia barking because of the sound, becomes louder. But they only pull away from each other when Hestia starts jumping against them, trying to get Luke’s attention so he’ll take the kettle off the stove.

“Hey,” Magnus says as he kneels down to pet the poodle, “she’s so much cuter in real life” .

“Yeah, she is”, Luke chuckles. So, um, do you want a cup of tea?”

Notes:
