Comfort

Summary:

Uzi's in pain so the dorks chill in her room.

Notes:

This was originally an /Reader that I wrote because I was in pain stronger than my ability to sleep and needed the damn comfort but this morning I decided it'd be better as Nuzi so here we are. While the idea of this has technically been in my docs for months upon months, only now has it actually been created. :P

Work Text:

It was a normal day, same as any other. Same routine, same drones, same locations. By all accounts it was strictly and uneventfully completely familiar. Except for the fact that something felt different. Different in a way Uzi knew all too well. Something that she had over time gotten used to, but still far from completely fine with. The tell-tale signs that a drone’s equivalent of a period was upon her. Certain drones got them, certain ones didn’t. And those that did didn’t even experience all the same problems that cropped up with it. It was supposed to be some kind of advancement in their filtering or something but all it did was bad, annoying bullshit. What a stupid design. If the human that programmed that particular part of drones in general was still somehow alive somewhere she wished with all her might that some of the most horrible experiences in existence were to befall them. Or just death, if that hadn’t happened already. That would be good too.

Ugh. It was the first day of whatever it was actually called being active, the first day was always the worst. The only day it really bothered her besides her body being slightly worse at regulating its own internal temperature. Oh, and all around feeling slightly weaker as well. She also hated that part. The cramps. The first day brought cramps. Why did they exist? Why was it a good idea in any capacity to willingly inflict on someone? Uzi wasn’t even sure how she could feel them that much, but she sure could.

Uzi shambled home after everything she had to do for the day, quickly retreating to her room as soon as she got through the door. As much as she tried to get comfortable by laying down for a little while, it kind of made it worse. It was just this ball, this miniature black hole in her gut that was twisting her up inside. What a horrible day to exist.

A distraction, she just needed a distraction. Of course, that would probably help. Except, as she tried, it didn’t. Uzi tried what she could. Play a game, read something, watch something, listen to her favourite music, find so many blankets and soft things around her room that the bed and now some of the floor was more like a mound or a den than a bed. It didn’t help. Well, maybe it helped a little bit, but nothing that actually gave her relief for long.

It was normally bad, but not this bad. This was worse than normal. The purple coded worker drone was seriously debating if there were some methods she hadn’t tried yet, or had never even heard of that she might figure out in the next 10 or so minutes. Dear Robo-God, she was tired.

Uzi checked the time, it was late, or technically early morning, whatever someone wanted to call it. In her eyes night was a better time to be up anyway, might as well never say it was morning. Either way, it was long after the sun had gone down, which was important, because she had plans! N was supposed to come over and hang out tonight. Normally she’d meet him at the main doors and more often than not explore more of the surface, but that was absolutely not in the cards for now. She was unsure if she could even get as far as the main doors without at least attempting to barrel through any blockages in the hallways, but it couldn’t hurt to try. Well, it could. Moving could hurt to try at this point. But still. She was thinking it, and just getting ready to try and move when there was a knock on her own door. There were two possibilities to who it could be, she wagered, she just hoped it was the one she wanted to see.

“It’s open!” Uzi loudly said from the other side of the room, with a neutral semi-annoyed tone due to being unsure just who the recipient outside of it was.

Her door swiftly opened to reveal the one she more hoped it to be, N! For times like this it was lucky that he spent so much time around and could easily find his way there. Uzi tried and failed to hide an excited noise from escaping her mouth as she hopped up and pretty much tackled him as soon as he was in the room, getting a nice big hug.

“Woah, hey Uzi! You’re not normally this cuddly.” N laughed while returning the hug, For the first time today something actually felt nice. “What’s up?” He asked when she finally let go.

“It’s- shut up.” She grumbled. “Just having a gross day.” Uzi said as she swung her arms slightly from side to side. The movement helped a bit.

“Ah, gotcha.”

“My dad didn’t give you any trouble getting here, right?” She asked before anything, he always seemed to find a way to be annoying, even when he wasn’t around.

“Nope! Hardly even saw him, but he did let me in right away.”

“Huh, that’s rare.” She said, moreso to herself. “You don’t mind if we stay in tonight, do you?” She asked as they took another look at her room, now about 300% more blanketed than normal.

“Totally fine with it. Anything specific you want to do this time?” He asked, N never knew exactly what she might bring up.

“Not this time, I’m good with pretty much anything.” Uzi huffed, falling back onto the bed. “Go ahead and pick whatever you want, it’s probably already set up anyway.”

After a not too long discussion on activity, the two of them settled for a game in progress. Or more accurately, N settled on a game in progress while Uzi watched him play. She didn’t have the willpower to do anything else at the moment.

The two of them got comfortable, which basically meant Uzi snuggling up to N as much as possible. N was warm, he always was slightly, but she could feel it more at the moment. “All good?” He asked when it was pretty apparent that there wasn’t any way she could possibly press herself against him any more than she already had.

“Yeah, all good.” Uzi said, muffled by both blankets she had wormed herself into and nuzzling into his side. She leaned against N, finally happy that she had a proper distraction, she could barely notice those horrible cramps anymore.
