You and Jeongin have been friends for as long as you can remember. Your parents were friends, causing you two to hang out a lot throughout your early lives growing up. You went to the same school and everything. When you were 15, your parents decided to move to America, so you two were separated. And now, years later, you were finally meeting up face to face once again.
In your early teenage years before your move, you had developed feelings for your friend. You didn't realize it at the time, until it was too late and you had separated from him. He stayed in Korea while you lived in the USA. Now, you were both in your mid-twenties, he was a successful idol and you were studying psychology in college, you had decided to pay him a visit. You two had planned everything out, his managers and other members of his group knew you were coming. His company had given you permission to stay at the trainee dorms for your visit, after some careful maneuvering/begging by Jeongin. You would be spending two weeks in Korea, during which time you would get to catch up better and go to all your favorite places growing up. You'd even get to meet his fellow members, which you were looking forward to. Jeongin had told you so much about everyone, and you couldn't help but to listen to a few of their songs, quickly falling in love with them.
You were waiting to board the plane as you suddenly got a call from none other than Jeongin. You immediately answered and pressed the phone up to your ear. "Hey bestie!" your friend's voice called out as soon as you clicked the green icon to answer the call. You couldn't help but let out a soft laugh at his voice, which sounded equally excited but also tired. "Hey! You sound tired, what time is it over there?" you asked, glancing up at the clock and saw that the time for you was 9.45 am.
“10.45 pm, why? It's not that late, don't worry about me” Jeongin said, trying to cover up a yawn. You knew that he was lying, but you couldn't help but chuckle. “Y'know that the flight's gonna be like 15 hours, right? Go to sleep, I'll text you once I'm at the Incheon international airport, alright?”
Jeongin paused for a moment as he took in your words. “Oh.. alright then, I'll go to sleep. Also, since I can't drive yet, Channie hyung’s gonna be there too, and a bodyguard as well, but she's really nice, you'll love her” he sounded excited to meet you despite his tiredness. You chuckled again as you heard your flight being ready and the boarding starting. “As much as I love talking to you, the boarding is starting, and you need that sleep. Talk to you later, okay?” You said as you began gathering your stuff and getting ready to get on the plane. “Okay, have a safe flight!” Jeongin said as you said your goodbyes and hung up the phone.
You got on the plane and spent the 15 hours by watching movies and reading your favourite book. You got off the plane once it landed in Incheon and headed straight for the luggage claim. You had to wait for a while since there were some problems, but they were soon resolved. You got your suitcase and you headed outside, looking for your friend and his fellow group member.
“Hey! Over here!” you heard your friend calling out for you. You turned your head and saw Jeongin waving for you. You ran towards him and hugged him as soon as you got close enough. You let go of your luggage and it fell down, but luckily Chan was there to catch it.
“Oh my god! I missed you so much! How have you been?” you said as the two of you kept hugging. You two hugged for a minute or two, before slowly seperating. “I’ve been good, and I even managed to sleep last night. I missed you too, I can't believe you're here!” he said, smiling as widely as he always is. “You've grown so much, even though we've kinda kept in touch, it's still been years since we last met”, you said to him as you reached up to mess with his hair like you used to do back when you were younger. He nudged your hand away and complained about his hair getting messed up.
You three eventually got into Chan’s car, and since it was already a bit past 2 pm, you all decided to grab some lunch together. Chan pointed out a small lunch cafe that they can go to without being bothered by their fans or paparazzi. You and Jeongin talked the whole drive there, catching up on years of not seeing each other. Chan happily let you two talk, choosing to just drive silently.
You ate lunch together, talking and messing around just like you and Jeongin used to. Little did you know that Jeongin felt flustered, as you did too. It was nice to have a chat with your long lost best friend, and getting to know his leader wasn’t awkward at all either. Eventually, you left the cafe and drove back to their company dorms to let you unpack and get settled for the next two weeks.
At some point, you heard a knock on the door. “Y/N? Can I come in?” you heard Chan’s voice calling out from the other side of the door. “Yeah, come in”, you replied and soon he entered your bedroom. He sat down on your bed and smiled at you. “So, you’re the mysterious person that our baby bread hasn’t stopped talking about ever since you agreed to come? I’m not gonna lie, he really missed you when you were gone. Whenever you’d text him, he’d stop everything to read it and reply to you, it’s honestly pretty adorable”, he said, teasing you as if you were one of his own. You looked down with a shy smile and nodded. “Really? I can picture that happening, to be honest”, you said as you sat down beside him. “Y’know, he’s been talking a lot about you, in general and not just now. He really cares about you, y’know”, he said, turning to face you. “Oh? He.. talks about me? I mean, I'd be lying if I said that I haven't been talking about him to my friends, but I didn't know he talked to you about me”, you said in a bit of a questioning way. “Oh yeah, he's always talking about you. If I didn't know, I would've thought that you'd be his partner and not just a friend”, he chuckled, making you blush a bit at his words. ‘Partner..? As in, lovers ..?’ you thought to yourself. Before you could say anything, Chan opened his mouth again and cut you off. “But, I'll let you get settled in peace. Minho's making dinner, so be down for that, at least. Of course, you can just come hang out with us, we're just chilling in the common room tonight”, he said and got up, leaving you alone with your thoughts again.
After a while once you got settled down, you went downstairs to hang out with the others. You spotted Jeongin and Felix on the couch, playing Mario Kart together. You walked up to them and sat down next to Jeongin. They noticed you and greeted you, but they were both focused on the game. Eventually they let you join and soon the night turned into a full-on game night. Changbin and Jisung dug up snacks and drinks from the kitchen, which annoyed Minho since he had just finished making dinner. You all had fun and the night went on, until Chan decided to call it a night. Everyone retired to their bedrooms, Chan and Jeongin lingered a bit longer since they shared a dorm.
“Y/N.. Can we talk? Meet me outside on the balcony..” Jeongin whispered to you before following Chan into their dorm. You were a bit confused but you nodded and went into your bedroom. After a while, once you were sure everyone else was asleep, you made your way onto the balcony, seeing how Jeongin was sneaking out onto it as well. You nodded to him and walked up to him. “You.. wanted to talk? Why in the middle of the night?” you asked him as you both leaned against the railing.
“I didn’t want the others around, they wouldn't leave us alone”, he said, turning to face you. He looked worried about something, like he had something important to say. You reached out and held his hand, wanting to show that you’d listen to him no matter what he had to say. He smiled and looked down for a moment, as if gathering his thoughts.
“Y/N.. I need to tell you something.. please hear me out and don’t freak out..”, he said, taking a moment to breathe before continuing. You nodded, telling him that you were listening to him. “I-.. I really value our friendship, over anything else in this world. Don’t get me wrong, I love the job and the fans, but I’d put you above anything else.. When you and your parents moved away, I was still young and I didn’t realize just how deeply my feelings for you ran.. Y/N, I think I love you..”
His words made you freeze. He.. liked you back? A smile made its way onto your lips and you squeezed his hand a bit. “Jeongin.. I-.. I can’t even begin to tell you how much our friendship means to me. And.. I think I love you too.. I only realized this a few weeks ago too, and I’m so happy you feel the same way”, you told him, watching him as his expression lit up. “You-.. do?” he asked, as if to make sure he wasn’t dreaming. You nodded and smiled at him. “I do.. I really do..” you responded to him and his face quite literally lit up. He reached out and gently held your face with the hand that you weren’t holding. He leaned closer and softly pressed his lips against yours in a slightly hesitant but sweet kiss. It made butterflies erupt in your stomach and your cheeks to blush. When he pulled back, you could see that his ears had started to turn red as well. You smiled at him and kissed him as well, not hesitating as much as he had but you still took things slow.
“S-so.. what are we?” Jeongin asked after the second kiss. “Whatever you want us to be”, you answered him. He took a moment to think before speaking up again. “I’d like for us to be a couple..” You nodded at his words. “Me too.. I’d love to be yours”
Eventually you two headed back inside, climbing into your bedroom. You both got comfortable in each other's arms with your head laying on his chest. Soon enough, you were both asleep, cuddled up comfortably and happily on your bed. In your dreams you saw Jeongin, and you had a slight smile on your face all throughout the night.
