Work Text:
The 1A classroom bristled with excitement loud with the enthusiasm of getting into UA, passing the exams, and being in the infamous 1A class.
Conversations ranged from introductions to schedules but mainly it all came back to one thing: Conversations over who their teacher will be.
This topic brought out many of the rumors that were rampant in the student body. Rumors that Allmight came out of his years-long retirement to teach again, or that Erasure Head is changing from being a part-time teacher back to 1A’s full-time teacher. There were even rumors that the retired hero Hawks would teach them!
But when the door opened and a scrambled, young, deranged-looking green-haired man who was covered in scars came bursting in holding a stack of papers. The silence in the room was deafening.
The scarred man sat down the stack of papers on the desk at the front of the room and smiled, a bright smile, at the class. “Hello! My name is Izuku Midoriya and I will be your homeroom teacher this year.”
No one said a thing. Stunned, the students exchanged looks, jaws practically to the floor, as they stared at the man in disbelief. But Midoriya ignored it, “You all are now on the course to be the finest heroes of your generation.” he paused, looking a few students in the eye.
“This will take grit, perseverance, and an open mind. Now let's get started…” With that, he took the stack of papers and passed them to the first students in each row letting them pass them behind them so each student would have a paper.
“Now, first things first I will go over the dorm arrangements and important information! Then the syllabus, after that we will go outside we will conduct some quirk tests.” As he rambled on explaining move-in dates and budgets, a question was at the front of all of the student's minds.
When Midoriya had finally finished talking about the dorms and asked if anyone had questions, a student in the back with white spiky hair raised his hand.
Midorya smiled looking at the student, his name was Tamashiro his quirk was Binging Ball, an emitter type with a more long-range focus. On the entrance exams, he seemed to lack defense and focus, Midorya recalled. “Yes, Tamashiro?”
“Heya sir! Not to sound rude but I've like…never heard of you…” all around the classroom students eyes shot to Tamashio shocked at the boldness of the question, quickly looking between Midoriya and the student to see gage his reaction. “-and like all the teachers here are supposed to be big deals! Like All Might or Present Mic! And you just seem like some random guy.” The classroom instantly felt a sweat drop from their classmates' straightforward bluntness.
Midoriya paused, shocked, he supposed this was granted. The war and his glimpse at his dream was years ago…Over time, fewer and fewer students recognized him, as they got closer in age to having been in elementary school during the war.
Midoriya collects himself and gives a small smile to the class, “Yes well, I hope to prove just as good a teacher as those who have taught 1A before me… I was in 1A myself and had Erasure head as my teacher.”
He quickly moves to lean on the table casually, “Speaking of him you will see him every other training day as he helps teach fighting strategy and quirkless fighting.”
Quiet chatter filled the room and Midoriya felt honestly lost in a way. He didn't know what to do. His response didn't quiet down the whispers or resolve the disappointment on the student's faces when they found out they wouldn't have a renowned hero with a fantastical legacy as their teacher.
But they'll have to make do and get over it. His past classes had sung his praises at the end of their years with him, so he hopes at the end of this year they’ll do the same. Midoriya quickly clapped, silencing the class before beginning again.
“Now further adieu, let's look at the syllabus, as you’ll see you will have many important classes this year. These are the fundamentals before you get into the nitty gritty more advanced material. It's important to also note that UA prides itself on supporting its students, and we offer therapy services for anyone who needs them even if you just want to talk. You can also always come to me with any issues you’re having, whether it’s personal or academic. I’m here to help, even with assignments.”
Midoriya smiled at the class as he moved to stand in front of his desk, making eye contact with the students. “Oh! I totally forgot a detail about the dorms! You may decorate your dorms however you'd like to, go the full 9 yards if you'd like. You know, in my time here at UA Shoto renovated his whole dorm room to look like a traditional Japanese home.”
Midoriya giggled slightly at the memory, however at the mention of Shoto the classroom exploded in excitement-he is the current number 1 rated up-and-coming hero with a large popularity that continues to keep growing Midoriya should have expected that reaction.
“W-WAIT sir! You know Shoto?! You went to school with him?! That's so cool! Oh. My. Gosh.” a girl in the back shouted standing up as she yelled.
Her hair blazed with a bright fire as she smiled brightly towards the front of the class. Her name is Hikari and her quirk is called Flame Mane, it allows her to control the hair on her head (which is made of fire) however she likes, allowing for interesting close and long-range attacks as seen during the exam.
“Yes, yes I did Hikari.” He soon stood and walked closer to the door. “Now let's all head outside! We will be doing some tests on your quirks. So go change out into your PE outfits and meet me on the field.” He then walked out of the classroom with students following him before he pointed towards the locker rooms.
“Your lockers should be labeled and have your uniforms inside! Please try to be quick!” His students quickly dispersed excitedly into their respective locker rooms. Now all alone in the hallway, it hit him. Another year had passed since the war, and how much has changed.
He was now the teacher of class 1A, no longer just the quirk strategy and analysis teacher, he now taught heroics.
He began to go down the hallway to the field, his red shoes leaving imprints in the grass with every step. He couldn't help but feel Déjà vu for his first day of UA.
When his mind had raced with hopes and anticipation of the future. One of All coursing through his veins like a wildfire, these memories honestly just made him want to bottle them up and put them in the corner of his closet to forget about and rot like his diaries from middle school.
The wounds, accomplishments, his friends, his teachers, Midnight, Allmight, Nighteye, the unbridled joy of living his dream, the fact he could be a hero after his whole life being told no. While he may be a hero in his own right, affecting the lives of the new generations of up-and-coming pro heroes.
He still can't help but yearn for what could have been. What had been.
As he stood in the field he was broken from his thoughts as chatter and laughter erupted from the doors of UA as his students began to filter out of the locker rooms heading to where he was standing.
This will be a fun year. He can tell.
The Sports festival was the starting point for many students' careers. It was a way for students to show the world, agencies, pro heroes, and scouters their abilities, quirks, and skills. Opening the doors for the students to be scouted and make important connections for their careers.
The students had started to get used to the green-haired man's quirks. Despite their initial disappointment about who their teacher was, they were beginning to grow closer to him.
On the board Midoriya had written in messy handwriting ‘the sports festival’ before he turned to the class. “The sports festival is important for the start of your careers as heroes but can also prove to be dangerous as you are showcasing your quirk to the world. That means heroes, civilians, AND villains can watch the feed and have you on their radar.”
He paused before turning back to the board to write as he spoke, “The festival will have 3 events that will test your abilities to their fullest. I cannot go into depth about the 2 changing events for this year but the 1vs1 battles are a definite.”
He paused, the board now had 3 sections, labeled Event 1, Event 2, and 1 v.1.
“You guys hold a hard position. People will expect greatness from your performance because you are in 1A. This means to keep your eyes out for who is watching you, students from other classes and courses may be observing you and trying to figure out how to take you down.” he paused for a quick second before giving a pointed look towards the class.
“Now that does not mean you should go out to lunch and be mean to your fellow students, it just means to be careful with who you share information about your quirk too.” He quickly pulled up his computer and connected it to the projector in the room.
“The sports festival games have events that differ year to year; however you can still draw information and good observation from past events.” Midoriya quickly pulled up a recording of Shinso during the Sports Festival during year 1.
“This is underground hero Mindjack whom some of you may know. He used the sports festival as an opportunity to show his potential for heroics and rose from general education to the heroics course.” He clicked the video showing the battle between Midoriya and Shinso showing how Shinso’s mind control worked on younger him, he quickly paused the video before his younger self broke out of the mind control.
“Whoa! Is that you, Mr. Midoriya?” a boy in the front of the class asked. His name was Tsuki, and he had a quirk called “Under the Moonlight,” which allowed him to have different strengths in his abilities that changed with the time of day. His abilities aligned with the moon phases as well. He was at his strongest at midnight when the moon was at its peak. In his conversations with Midoriya outside of class, Tsuki expressed his desire to become an underground hero, and Midoriya can't wait to see what he will accomplish.
“Yes, that is young Tsuki! Fighting him was quite shocking given that no one expected him. That's what you all need to keep in mind! Don't expect anything, just prepare for the possibilities. Reviewing old footage of past events can help you prepare for the what-ifs that may happen.” Students hands quickly shot up asking questions about the events this year begging Midoriya for information he quickly responded “-Now that's all I can share about the Sports festival.”
As he erased the board the students began to whisper to each other, Midoriya could hear his name being brought up in the whispers so curious as to what they're talking about he turns to look at them, which instantly shushes them.
Shaking his head he continues on the lesson forgetting about the instance as he delved into the semantics of hero work. He wished he didn't. When the lunch bell rang the students said their goodbyes to him and left for the cafeteria, he sat in an empty classroom.
With a breath, he began his walk to the faculty lounge to grab his lunch and get a new coffee. As usual, he was the first one into the lounge and he grabbed his busted All Might lunch box from the fridge. Taking out the pb and j sandwich as he stared out of the tall windows sitting at his desk.
As he ate he began to insert grades into the UA grade website zoning out as he did the task. Until he felt a rough pat on his back, as he turned to see Present Mic there to greet him.
“Hey hey little listener! I was curious if you'd like to join me up in the announcer box this year for the sports festival. Shota's injuries are acting up again and he hasn't been feeling all that hot…SO! I thought hey might as well let him relax and spend time with one of my favorite listeners!”
Midoriya's face was blank from shock as he took a bite of his sandwich. As soon as it clicked what Mic had asked he sprouted up so quickly almost pushing the lunch box off the desk.
“Are you sure sir? I mean it’d be an honor but are you sure Aizawa won't be upset if you're giving this responsibility to someone else?!” Midoriya sputtered as he wiped his mouth with a napkin in hopes of saving his… professional image.
Mic laughed at Midoriya's response before speaking “Nah I don't think he'd mind honestly I think he’d celebrate! Well, I gots to go print some papers before next period but I'll email you the information you'll need! Bye bye little listener!”
As Mic walked away Midoriya honestly couldn't believe his life. Even after being a teacher here for a while and being their students, he'd never get used to talking to his heroes. Perhaps not becoming a front-line hero did have its perks! For example, hanging out with the Present Mic during what is basically like a live podcast talking about quirks and the possibilities for all of these new heroes!
Literally a dream of his.
What wasn't a dream is what his students were doing in the cafeteria. Little did he know his students all surrounded Hikari’s phone to watch Midoriya’s fights and footage from his first year's Sports Festival.
Questions quickly began plaguing the student's minds, the unsuspecting Midoriya went about like normal beginning the lesson on morals and how to know what the right amount of force is for an arrest.
Until the normalcy was shattered close towards the end of class by a question by Hikari. “Hey, sir! Sorry to interrupt but like we all totally reviewed footage of the past UA sports festivals…specifically the one where you fought!! and we CANNOT understand why you aren't an up-and-coming hero!”
Midoriya paused his writing before looking at Hikari with a sad smile, in his head however he was cursing out the gods for his question, but more so he was a little disappointed that his students didn't think to take the footage a step further and search up his hero name to figure out who he was.
“Yes, well. Things don't work out how they are meant to, and I mean I work here so I'm technically still a hero…I just do hero work when absolutely necessary.” his mind instantly thought to the embers of one for all that ran through his veins, however, he had a class to teach so he quickly went back on to the topic. Despite this in his attempt to continue he was thrown off course again by Tamashiro instead this time “Wait sir did you get hit but that crazy nullification bullet thing I've heard about?!”
Midoriya suddenly had the urge to bash his head into the chalkboard but before he had the chance to traumatize these kids the ending day bell quickly became his saving grace. What added even more to this divine save is the fact that as soon as the bell rang the doors opened and Present Mic was standing there.
“Ah hello, little listeners! Head on to the dorms I've got to talk to Mr.Midoriya!”
Midoriya was thanking the gods now, and Present Mic for bringing the heat away from him allowing him to NOT answer those questions he honestly didn't want to answer cause no matter what he'd say it'd raise more questions.
As all his students left Midoriya thanked Present Mic profusely before they began to walk to the faculty lounge and talk about the sports festival's events.
The excitement of the sports festival was wearing off and with nothing coming till the end of the month it led to a lot of boring days.
Today was one of them.
Midoriya sat at his desk at the front of the classroom grading papers as his students worked together to complete an assignment on how a hero's job isn't just fighting but to be a pillar for their community.
As students began to complete the assignment the chatter quickly changed from on-task to general off-task conversations. Watching his students talk honestly made him think about his time at high school again. Then he began thinking of his highschool friends, he doesn't talk to them often because of their busy schedules and how theyd grown apart after Midoriya went to America for his college degree.
This was expected to happen when people grow up but he can't help but feel the disconnect between him and his classmates was way larger than the disconnect between their relationships with each other. They had busy schedules and night shifts with low pay as they are still just up-and-coming heroes, he had a stable job that paid well!
He should be grateful honestly. But in reality, he just felt a bit lonely.
As the student's chatter got louder and louder he heard his name so he looked up to see a few girls in his class sitting together having pushed their tables together gossiping. It was Tohru who had said his name.
Tohru was a quite popular girl with a quirk called curse, This quirk allowed her to place a variety of curses on people, like simple inconveniences for example making someone constantly trip over nothing, to far more severe outcomes. Despite the power of her quirk, Tohru could break any curse at will, though she struggled to maintain control when multiple people were cursed.
Her ultimate goal was to become a rescue hero, inspired by the hero 13. Although her quirk seemed better suited for causing damage than heroics, Tohru was determined to prove that she could use it for good. Midoriya believed she had the potential to succeed.
As he looked up he made eye contact with Tohru who seemed shocked and embarrassed that Midoriya had noticed their conversation especially as what they were talking about was his scars.
One thing Midoriya has seemed to begin to understand from his class is that the questions they have don't stay under wraps for long, his students have the curiosity that kills the cat jumping for answers.
So he knew it was a matter of time before they found a way either boldly or more so fish for the answer during class. Luckily the bell rang indicating the end of the class period giving Midoriya ample time to think about how he would respond.
Now Midoriya wasn't embarrassed by his scars, no no, but he didn't really know how to explain them without bringing up the war thing which then will in turn will bring up why he isn't pursuing heroics and is a teacher.
As he pulled out his newest notebook he began to write out ideas for responses. He knew running away from the past wasn't his brightest idea but honestly, he liked the fact that this year there weren’t students begging him to answer details about the war he'd rather not share.
Or questions on his vigilantism. He remembers one year this girl wouldn't stop calling it his emo era, finding pictures of it and editing it along to pre-quirk “emo” music. Not that it wasn't funny, just he didn't think he’d find it as amusing now.
That year was only of few years after the end of the war and he had yet to truly understand what he’d lost, he was still recovering in ways and while he understood he didn't have his quirk he still had embers. He had hopes that maybe…just maybe…that would be enough.
Midoriya knew if he really wanted to he could pursue heroics with his strength (he could lift All Might god dammit) he had and the quirkless fighting skills… lots of heroes fought quirklessly.
However, it just seemed so out of reach he gave up on that thought.
It was possible yet his mind couldn't jump that hurdle, it was with a quirk or nothing. So he took Nezu’s advice to be a teacher going to college, accepting the role at UA and teaching on a high salary equal to the Harvard professors in America.
He also was technically still a pro hero like all of the teachers at UA however he was on the backburner, he could still fight and had the embers for the worse case scenario so he wasn't useless. Yet he never pursued being in the limelight again.
When his students returned to his class and were given a new worksheet on heroics the time he knew was coming came. Tohru raised her hand nervously and Midoriya smiled warmly and indicated for her to ask her question.
“Um-s-sir! Some of my classmates and I are really curious and I know this isn't a… nice question. But we were curious how did you get your scars?” Tohru seemed apologetic in her voice yet her eyes brimmed with curiosity.
Midoriya’s eyebrow rose in question as he sighed standing up to address the class. “Yes well…” he quickly moved to stand in front of his desk leaning on the wood before continuing.
“Becoming a hero is a tough job and going to UA is an optimal way to be on the track to heroics. Yet the journey to being a hero will be full of dangers and honestly injuries. That's how I got my scars. While being at UA my top job is to protect you along with all the other pro heroes here so hopefully you won't get as busted as I did when I was on the field. And I mean you all dont have to deal with a war!” Midoriya let out a small chuckle at the end.
“Now that's not to say you guys won't face villains in your time at UA. The internships lead to many opportunities to end up in a genuine villain fight so I hope when internships roll around you will heed all of my instructions. Now any more questions?”
Midoriya asked looking around the classroom until Akito raised his hand. Akito was a serious student whose quirk is called lynx, it is a mutation quirk that gives him some physical attributes of a lynx along with the stealth, strength, and agility of the animal.
“Yes Akito?” he smiled at the boy who began “Sir when will discussions about internships begin?”
Midoriya was thankful Akito didn't ask about Midoriya's scars or past so he answered Akito’s question with a smile.
These kids will be the death of him.
The students had received their lists of what pro heroes wanted them to intern in their agencies, a major step for their careers as heroes. Along with the excitement of agency internships, the day had finally come for them to choose their long-awaited hero names.
Midoriya stood at the front of the class, a fond smile on his face as he held a stack of thick cardstock paper. “Now, everyone, think carefully about the future when choosing your hero name. What you pick now will stick with you throughout your career as soon as you use it on the field, even if you change it… it will find you again. For example, Kacchan's first choice… let’s just say, we’re very fortunate he never used it in the field.” He chuckled to himself as he passed out the thick cardstock to write their hero names on.
“Your name is a major indicator of who you are as a hero, it will also most likely affect your marketing as you get more popular. For example Froppy! Her merch has a strict green and frog theme falling with her quirk and her name!” Midoriya explained in hopes of cementing in the student's minds that this moment is important and needs to be taken seriously.
“Um, sir, who's Kacchan?” Tamashiro asked as he wrote in thick sharpie on the card stock he had just received.
Midoriya blinked and looked at Tamashiro sheepishly “Oh! Well, his hero's name now is Dynamite, but-” he paused to keep laughing, “-originally he wanted his name to be King Explosion Murder if you can believe it.”
Laughter and chatter erupted across the room. The name was intense and crazy and it being connected to Pro Hero Dynamight?! It's a silly thought. Students begin to talk to one another about name ideas and off-topic things asking each other for ideas or opinions on the ones they chose.
Midoriya returned to his desk sitting in his chair with a smile still on his face. His scarred hand grabbed a red pen on his desk as he began where he left off on grading his student's essays, circling grammar errors, fixing spelling, and questions he had while reading it.
The chatter was calming in a way. The excitement and passion for heroics his students had made Midoriya think about how much potential they have and how many people they will save. He was already insanely proud of them and their growth since the beginning of the year.
Once his timer went off he called the students one at a time to reveal their hero names, Midoriya approved most of them with a smile except a handful who had to be sent back to their seats to retry.
After everyone had their names and they were approved by Midoriya he allowed his students to have free time as they only had 5 min left until lunch and that the topic of internships would be discussed afterward.
The students were ecstatic talking largely at one another until the bell rang all of them quickly leaving in their groups.
Leaving Midoriya alone.
Leaving the empty classroom he finished the essay he was working on before grabbing his notebook and heading to the Faculty lounge.
As he walked, his work phone rang, interrupting his thoughts. Still moving, Midoriya fumbled with his items, switching hands to answer the call.
“This is Izuku Midoriya from U.A., how can I help you?” he asked, balancing the phone against his shoulder. From the other end, he heard a sharp breath, followed by a familiar, growling voice.
“Nerd. Come outside and let me in, or so help me—”
Midoriya couldn’t help but laugh at the familiar voice. “Kacchan,” he chuckled smiling at the caller “Which entrance are you at?”
Bakugo’s voice snapped back, quickly giving directions. “Journalists spotted me, so hurry up.”
And with that, the call ended abruptly, leaving Midoriya smiling at his phone with a new pep in his step.
After placing his belongings on his faculty room desk, Midoriya made his way to the entrance, briskly walking through the hallways so as not to keep Kacchan waiting. When he finally spotted Bakugo standing behind the gate, he couldn’t resist a smirk.
“Well well well! Mr.Pro Hero how can I help?!” he teased
Kacchan raised a brow unimpressed, huffing in his response “Yeah, yeah, nerd. Just open the door. I brought lunch.” Midoriya's smile widened at the mention of food “Oh, did you now? And what's the magic word?”
Bakugo’s eyes narrowed on the other side of the bars, his voice flat. “I will leave right now and dump your katsudon all over the ground.”
Midoriya stifled a laugh and quickly unlocked the gate. “Okay, okay! I’ll let you in. Want to eat in my classroom? I just need to grab my stuff from the faculty lounge on the way.”
Bakugo passed the lunch bag to him with a shove, walking ahead as he grumbled, “Sure, nerd.”
Midoriya followed behind holding the bag, grinning. It was always the same with Kacchan… he was happy to have his company.
After getting his items from the lounge they walked to his classroom sitting at his desk talking about everything. Conversation flowed naturally, covering basically everything: training techniques, the latest in hero business, workplace drama, and even about the food. They shared updates on their lives, their apartments, and how their parents were doing—the conversation flowed like a river.
As Midoriya finished his katsudon he through the container away with a satisfied grin. This moment felt heartwarming, the loneliness in his heart disipaiting a little as he was sitting with Kacchan and just talking. No weight of the world on their shoulders. Times were different now than how their relationship was years ago.
Suddenly, the sound of numerous footsteps echoed down the hallway, growing louder with each second. Loud voices were muffled through the door, but unmistakable to Midoriya. Midoriya glanced at Bakugo, knowing that they were about to be interrupted by teenagers.
The classroom door swung open, and his students poured in, buzzing with energy as they headed to their seats.
“I can’t believe we finally get to start talking about our internships!” a girl exclaimed, animatedly chatting with Tohru. The excitement in the room was bursting as students chatted about their upcoming opportunities, completely unaware of the pro hero sitting next to Midoriya.
As the students settled into their seats and began to quiet down, a sudden realization swept through the classroom. It took only a moment for Bakugo's presence to register, and the room exploded in shrieks and chatter.
“Wait-Dynamight is here?!” Tamashiro shouted, eyes wide in disbelief. “Are you serious? No way!” another student yelled, practically jumping from their seat.
Bakugo, unfazed by the commotion, leaned back with an air of confidence, a wide smirk on his face basking in the attention. Midoriya quickly stood chuckling at the commotion.
“Alright alright, everyone let's settle down.” he said raising his hands, “before we begin talking about internships, let me address the elephant in the room.” He smiled at his students motioning towards the hero sitting at his desk.
“This is pro hero Dynamight, we were just having lunch. pay him no mind as im sure he has somewhere to be soon!” As soon as he said this students began to deflate from their excitement quickly replacing it with the disappointment of not being able to ask him questions.
Bakugou caught onto this disappointment and addressed Midoriya and the class “Hey, Deku, you should let these nerds ask me questions about my time interning during our first year. Your experience probably isn’t the best example.” His sly grin taunting as he referenced the infamous Stain incident. Midoriya's eyes widened as he shot a glance between Bakugo and the eager class.
Accepting defeat he allowed Bakugo to answer questions, during this Midoriya pulled up on his computer a document he’d created earlier in the week. It was a compilement of agencies with a description of each of them, what they specialize in, and what heroes are affiliated with them.
He had made this document in the hopes his students to filter through their internship requests for the one that fits what kind of hero they want to be.
As Bakugo finished answering the questions, Midoriya took over, explaining the resource and encouraging the class to look further into the agencies that requested them and not just relying on his document. With that, he sent it out to his class.
Students began to talk looking at the agencies that wanted them and their descriptions, asking fellow students what they thought or if they knew anything else about them. Bakugo smiled at Deku catching his eye before standing to leave, motioning to his watch to indicate that duty was calling him.
Midoriya smiled back, waving him a small goodbye as he opened the grading website on his laptop filling in the essay grades.
“Wow, Mr. Midoriya! You sure know everyone, don’t you?” a girl in the front exclaimed, glancing up from her screen before continuing her search.
Midoriya felt sorta embarrassed by the compliment however looking at his students working their hardest he's kinda excited for the time when they become pros and he can say that he taught them.
The bus pulled in front of the class with an eerie screech then the doors opened wildly. The students instantly took their chance to get on the bus, bursting with enthusiasm and excited chatter in every conversation as they found their seats.
Once the seats were filled Midoriya was the last to enter the bus, he quickly did a head count before flashing his now signature smile. “...19, 20! Alrighty!” He quickly moved to put his items on his seat before addressing the class again. “Ok everyone I know how excited you are but please stay seated during the drive and keep the noise to a minimum! We've got around a 2-hour drive before we reach the facility! Once we get closer to the facility I'll give you guys the rundown on what we're doing.”
He then gave a thumbs-up to the bus driver before getting comfortable in his seat. The bus began to move and the rumbling of the bus created a rather calming hum. Midoriya pulled out his laptop, sifting through emails and reviewing the cases he was assisting on, as he completed this he routinely checked his surroundings to see how far away they were from the facility.
When the street sign the facility was on came into view he quickly put away his computer and carefully began to stand steadying himself as the bus turned a corner. As he faced his students he smiled before yelling “Alright listen up!”
As soon as his students were paying attention he continued (he was honestly surprised at the quickness he gained the attention as they seemed about to burst from the excitement).
“At this facility, you will be doing an exam.” his student's faces dropped at the mention of an exam.
“I know! I know! I tend to warn before we have them but I know you can all do this one! I believe in you!” he smiled at them reassuring them before continuing “This exam will take place in UA’s newest rescue simulation building, like the USJ. You and your partner will be assigned to a section with randomized situations with the goal of rescuing the 10 civilians in the area. The people you are saving will be actors who will; assess your performance in your rescues and report back to me on how you did. If in your situation you have people who are labeled as needing emergency care you will need to get them to the designated healing tent next to your area.”
The bus screeched to a halt, Midoriya stumbling before regaining his balance looking embarrassed at the class when he heard chuckles. He quickly motioned for his students to gather their things as to push the attention off of him. “Alright, everyone, let’s go!” he guided them off the bus ushering them quickly to get out of the bus onto the pristine white concrete path that led to the towering facility.
The building loomed before them in its modern grandeur, its glass roof catching the sunlight blinding if you look at it hard enough. Unlike the familiar dome of the USJ, this building was a massive rectangular shape sticking into the sky.
The students gazed up at it in awe, murmuring to each other following Midoriya toward the entrance.
With a firm shove, Midoriya pushed open the heavy doors, the sound echoing dramatically. "Let’s head in," he said as his students filed into the expansive lobby.
“Ok please stand by your partners to make my lives easier to number you off and send you into the simulation.” He quickly numbered the pairs and led them again through a door into a large space where the glass from the roof could be seen. Scattered among the large area were different terrains from mountains to oceans. It truly was a facility that could replicate any situation.
As the students stood listening to Midoriya give more instruction on where to go and the schedule for the day.
Hikari was honestly trying to just pay attention to what Mr. Midoriya was saying and Ace this exam, she could NOT take another failing grade. However, when Tamashiro pushed her shoulder for the 4th time she couldn't take it.
Her head turned so quickly she felt like she should have gotten whip lash but that would be worth it if she could shut Tamashiro up. “What do you need?” she whispered harshly hoping their teacher wouldn't call them out on the whispering.
Tamashiro looked hurt before whispering back “Hey, hey I just wanted to check something. Do you see that weird-looking guy walking towards up? Wearing the whole homeless emo grab?” Hikari rolled her eyes before moving to look at where Tamashiro was pointing, and what he was seeing was right.
“Tamashiro he's probably just one of the actors ya know? I wouldn't be too worried now let me pay attention I CANNOT fail this.” She gave him a pointed look before giving her attention back to Midoriya however Tamashiro tapped her again.
“I…I don't think so Hikari he looks upset..” He whispered again worriedly, “Maybe he didn't get paid?! I don't know! JUST LET ME PAY ATTENTION!” She yelled catching the attention of everyone around them including Mr.Midoriya.
Oh, how she wanted to kill Tamashiro.
“Miss Hikari I'm gonna assume you have a good reason for interrupting instruction?” Hikari huffed glaring at Tamashiro before responding “I didn't intentionally sir- it's just Tamashiro here!” She glared again “Wouldn't stop pointing out the guy walking up to us.”
Hikari huffed shooting Tamashiro another glare in hopes of getting the point across that she hated his guts right now. Until Mr.Midoriya had turned around and instantly straightened.
“Ok, students I need you to listen to me right now and follow exactly what I say.” Mr. Midoriyas's voice was different not his usual warm and kind tone this one was stern and cold, the class glances at one another becoming more alert at his words due to the serious tone.
“Ritsu I need you to take Maki with you and head to the pro hero agency that’s to the right of the building. Run quickly push your quirk to its limit.” Midoriya huffs and begins to take off his coat and loosening his tie throwing the items onto his bag that sits on the floor next to him.
“Hikari as class president I need you to guide the class out of the building. I'm not sure if there are other villains here so all of you stick together.”
“But sir! What about you we can't leave you here!” Midoriya looked back at her as he rolled up his sleeve breaking his stern look to give her a smile, “It's alright Hikari everything will be alright. My job is to protect you guys so I need you guys to get to safety.”
“Sorry to ruin this…Touching moment. BUT I'm gonna need to continue ruining it. You lot will not be leaving. You Deku have evoked my wrath since you killed Shigaraki!” Hearing the ruff voice sent shivers down Hikari’s spine, she couldn't move she was terrified… but what had really stuck with her was the name the villain had said.
Midoriya reached down into his bag grabbing his phone and threw it toward Tamashiro who caught it quickly. Tamashiro took this as an indication to get out of there and he began to push Hikari and the other students to follow the way Ritsu and Maki ran out.
As they entered the lobby they stood on guard staring through the glass of the door as their teacher was about to fight the villain.
“Um not to be that guy but should we go help?! Like Mr.Midoriya has never used his quirk in front of us and always gets so touchy when it's brought up, I think some big accident happened and he can't use it now. Like those bullets!” a student in the back of the crowd said.
“I mean he hasn't said he CAN’T use his quirk… but I can't help but feel worried….”
“We should run in there-”
“-he's a pro hero and he teaches at UA he's got this!! Believe in Mr.Midoriya!”
Hikaris classmates kept arguing yet she couldn't get that name out of her head. Deku. She’d heard it somewhere. She’s sure of it! Deku…deku…deku…
“What are you thinking about Hikari?” Tamashiro asked shooting her a worried look, Hikari looked up at him glaring “I was thinking about the name that villain said. Deku it sounds familiar doesn't it?”
Tamashiro thought for a second before looking at Hikari in the eye in shock “Wasn't Deku that guy that we read about in heroics history class? The one from the war?”
Hikari’s eyes widened in recognition before announcing to the class “MR.MIDORIYA IS THE GUY WHO WON THE WAR?!”
The class all was silent for a second before the fight caught their eye. The villain seemed to be using his quirk a white fog falling to the ground from the villain's mouth. However, this did little to Midoriya as he swung and hit the man right in the face knocking out the dude.
“NICE JOB MR.MIDORIYA!” tamashiro yelled, the excitement of the win quickly dissipated as 6 more villains came out of the nearby forest section. Midoriya quickly turned to where they had come and began to run at the villains.
“He hasn't even used his quirk yet…. What a badass!” a star-eyed student murmured.
And what a badass he was. By the time the pro heroes arrived with Ritsu and Mika, Midoriya had already taken down most of the thugs. His students were quickly ushered back onto the bus by one of the heroes, a tense silence hanging over them as worried glances were shared. They couldn’t shake the image of their teacher, bruised and battered, yet still standing strong.
The silence lasted until the next day, there was no teacher to greet them today. As the students filed in sitting at their tables staring at the front of the class and the desk Midoriya was always at in the mornings to greet them.
Until 2 heroes walked in, Dynamight and Uravity. The class exploded in murmurs at their entrance though anxiety for their teacher's condition weighed heavily on their conscious.
“Hey, nerds. The nerd asked us to watch his class as he talked to the police about the villain attack so me and Uravity here will be watching you until Deku gets back at around lunchtime.”
Uravity smiled at the class as she introduced herself the class was enamored by the heroes once the anxiety was lifted off their shoulders.
“Hey Mr.Dynamight sir!” a student in the back raised his hand and Bakugo raised an eyebrow at the nervous voice “I…well I guess we were curious. Is Mr.Midoriya the Deku from the war?”
Dynamight and Uravity froze at the words looking startled before looking at each other and back at the kid “Well yeah? Didn't you know that?”
With that response, the students went wild. Questions exploded out of the students towards the two heroes but the one that stuck out the most to the 2 heroes was this.
“Why did Mr.Midoriya hide that he was a hero?!”
“He didn't hide it, dumbass, it's everywhere?! Literally new articles come up about him every anniversary of the war? Hell, I know they’re not frequent anymore and has gotten out of the public eye but he didn't keep it hidden!” Bakugo sputtered shocked at the student's question.
The student fell silent, the reality sinking in. The weight of everything they’d seen and experienced with their teacher finally made sense now. From how he acted the first day of school, to how he acted about his quirk, from his mass amount of connections to so many heroes.
But most of all a realization was shared by their class. Mr.Midoriya was their hero and the best teacher they could have had.
