The Hot Springs of Skyhold

Summary:

Skyhold may have been like an oasis to the parched Inquisition, a place for their forces to rest, to grown and plan from, but the true gem lay hidden beneath its foundation. Looking for a moments respite after a grueling mission, Inquisitor Lavellan decides to try out the newly discovered hot springs, and it seems a certain other elf had the same idea.

Notes:

Hi y'all, this is my first fanfic I've ever written. The Solavellan brain worms have been laying dormant for the past decade but have come out of hibernation since Veilguard's announcement so this was the result. I was inspired by The Witcher fandoms fanon hot springs fics and now I am of the firm opinion that every player base needs a hot spring. Its unbeta-ed so please bear with it and I hope you enjoy!

Work Text:

As frigid wind whipped the hair loosed from her braids into her face, Sule’nera trudged alone across the drawbridge into Skyhold. Cassandra, Cole, and Solas had headed into the fortress ahead of her while she had stopped to speak with one of Cullen's soldiers in the encampment at the base of Skyhold. She wanted to make sure that the refugees and soldiers camping out had the necessities to survive outside the walls until a more permanent solution was come up with to make them more comfortable. After the soldier had assured her that they were all well supplied and as comfortable as could be expected she continued her trek into Skyhold proper.

This was her team's first mission out into the field after Solas had led them to the discovery of Skyhold and her induction as the Inquisitor of the new Inquisition. Passing under the gate, she noticed the rubble in front of the scaffolding to her right had been cleared away, allowing access to what seems to be a side yard and a sizable barn and stable. Noting to herself to go explore it tomorrow, she begins her climb up the stairs towards the great hall. The twilight sky cast a purple light on the space around her. The castle was sparsely populated at the moment, most inquisition members and soldiers probably either at the tavern or trying to stay warm in bed. She moves to make room for a group of mages coming down the stairs when they all stop, put their fist over their chest with heads bowed, and murmur “Inquisitor” to her. Not knowing what to do, Sule’nera quickly nods her head back, and hurries faster up the steps. That’s gonna take some getting used to, she thought. Anything is better than Herald though.

At the top of the stairs, the glow of the torches and the aroma of something cooking in the kitchen came wafting out from the great hall, reminding Sule’nera exactly how she felt at the moment. She was exhausted, she was hungry, and more than anything else, she was in desperate need of a bath. Facing off swarms of undead tended to leave one in less than perfect condition, not to mention wading through mud and water while dealing with a constant onslaught of rain overhead left her chilled to the bone even after fully drying off on the way back to base.

Sule’nera waved at Varric from his place next to the fireplace and then wandered over to a small table with small dishes laden atop it. She grabbed a small seashell shaped pastry and bit into it, then immediately popped the rest into her mouth and grabbed two more. Damn, she thought, Orlesians are annoying but man can they bake. She washed down the cookies with the last of the water from her waterskin and started to head to the door in the back of the hall that led to the tower. The thought of climbing the stairs to her chamber filled Sule’nera with enough dread that she was weighing the pros and cons of just sleeping on the rug in Josephine’s office, but the allure of having a hot bath proved too strong. As she neared the door, Josephine walked out from her office and beckoned her over.

“Welcome back, Sule’nera, how was the Fallow Mire?” Josephine inquired.

“Well, it certainly lives up to its name, but we got our soldiers back safely and that’s what matters. I’m sure I have mud in places I didn’t know could get there,” Sule’nera griped, releasing her braid from the coil on her head, trying to brush dried detritus from where it was lodged in the hair. “So if you’ll excuse me Josephine, I’m off to go bathe. Is there a way I could get a basin of hot water brought to my room?” Sule’nera asked.

Clapping her hands together, Josephine smiles and says,”Ah, I see no one has told you yet. Whilst the workers were cleaning up the stronghold, a crew found a door that led deeper into the foundation of Skyhold. You’ll never guess what they found beneath our very feet." Josephine was visibly very excited for whatever had been found. “They found a hot spring right below our feet! Well, I should say they found a cave of them. Pools of water deep enough to soak in and quite relaxing if I do say so myself. Leliana and I tried the quality of the springs ourselves the other day and I must say, the minerals in these waters would make any Orlesian noble seek a vacation here. It will leave you relaxed and smooth skinned Inquisitor, I promise.”

After bidding her a good night, Sule’nera made her way to where Josephine had said the stairway to the spring was located. Down the steps that led to the cellars from Josephine's office, and then through the door at the end of the hall there was another set of stairs, these hewn more roughly from the rock than the smooth steps that comprised the rest of Skyhold, but seemingly well worn in the middle of the step, as if this was a path more well trod than any other. Starting down the steps, Sule’nera could feel a humidity stick to her skin, a difference in temperature becoming more noticeable with each step. By the time she had reached the bottom of the stairs, she could feel a bead of sweat travel down her nape. Josephine's description of a cave felt insufficient, it was a cavern, filled with beautiful blue pools of water, steam rising from them all.

Arranged in terraced layers, a waterfall on the far wall flowed into a pool that looked large enough to fit twenty people, and from that pool it trickled down into four more pools, each less steamy than the last. A crack in the wall of the last pool seemed to be where the water flowed out of the cavern as it undoubtedly exited the mountain as one of the many waterfalls that flowed out of the stone below Skyhold. The floor of the cavern sloped gently into the corner nearest the lowest pool; there didn’t appear to be any standing water in the cave, so there must be a way for the water to escape even outside the pool itself.

The space had been prepared with torches, and the light thrown off the fires bouncing off the water reflected on the walls, wave-like patterns danced on the walls creating a tranquil scene before Sule’nera. Along with the torches, someone had also thought to bring a table and large shelf, the first of which housed various items needed for a bath, the latter holding towels and small baskets to keep your clothes dry in. Sule’nera dropped her pack on the shelf by the wall and walked over to the table to grab what she would need. A bucket, rag, bar of soap, and hair soaps in her possession, as well as a towel set out for her use later, Sule’nera made her way to the last pool, the one furthest from the waterfall and felt the water. She found it warm enough to bath herself with. She noticed a short stool off to the side and dragged it over to the edge of the spring as well.

Leaving her bathing items there, she made her way back to her pack and quickly stripped herself of her armor, undoing her hair from its travel style and removing the ornaments woven into the braids, beads and jewelry slipped into a small pouch. She muttered a small thank you to the gods for having a clean outfit in her pack since she had been too smitten with the idea of a nice soak that grabbing a fresh set of clothes completely slipped her mind. There was no need to trek back up to her chambers, though the allure of the waters was so great that Sule'nera didn’t think she could force herself to get a fresh outfit even if she needed it. It also seemed to be late enough that no one else in Skyhold would be joining her in the hot springs, so Sule’nera took her time putting away her armor and clothes, and grabbing her comb and hair oils.

Heading back to her bucket she filled it with water and started a thorough cleaning of herself. She scrubbed herself down three times to get all of the dust and mud from the road off of her, not to mention any viscera from slain foes. The sight of clean tanned skin greeted her after a final rinse and Sule’nera turned to sorting through her hair.

She dumped buckets of hot water over herself and began to comb through her hair, gently working through any knots or tangles in her dark curls. Once thoroughly wet, she grabbed some of the hair soap and lathered it into her hair. Massaging her scalp, the stress of the mission began to melt away. After a deep clean of her hair and a quick rinse to rid herself of any remaining suds, Sule’nera piled her hair on the top of her head in a messy bun with the hairstick she remembered to grab from her pack and made her way to the top pool in the cavern. It seemed to be the hottest of the pools of water, and Sule’nera tensed slightly at the temperature and slowly lowered herself into the depths. It was deep enough to come to just above her bust in the center of the pool, though it sloped up towards the edges, with the stone carved to form benches along the edge that allowed her to sit and have her head and neck be above the water. After about 5 minutes, Sule’nera could feel herself begin to overheat so she moved herself down to the next pool. This pool was about the same depth and also had seats of stone and she found the temperature much more comfortable, so she settled in to soak.

The sound of the waterfall and flowing water lulled sule’nera into a doze, her head resting on the edge of the pool. This fortress really has everything we need. She mused idly, I wonder if Dorian has been here yet, he’d love it, he’s always bitching about how cold it is. What did he call himself? A hot-house orchid? Sule’nera snickered to herself at the thought. Accurate.

Her ears perked at a soft gasp that stirred her from her nap. She straightened from her recline and her eyes shot over to the door. Solas stood there, eyes wide, holding a change of clothes in his arms. Cursing herself inwardly for leaving her towel across the room, Sule'nera didn’t dare to move.

Things had been awkward between the two of them after the kiss in the fade at Haven. Everytime Solas seemed to show interest he would back off and it was sending her mixed signals. She thought of this last mission together. They were fighting near each other at the back of the battlefield, him spinning his staff and shooting out spells and her firing off arrow after arrow into targets across the way. She saw him glance over at her during lulls in his casting, an emotion she couldn’t place on his face, only for him to turn and cast with more vigor. At one point, she’d had to throw down her bow and pull out her sword as an enemy in stealth tried to flank Solas as he was taking stock after the battle. When he saw her take down the enemy coming at him he stepped towards her as if to say something, only to stop himself and turn away. It was frustrating and all Sule'nera wanted to do was grab his handsome face and kiss his plump lips but he was making that very hard for her.

“Apologies, Sule’nera, I did not know you were in here. I will leave you to your bath,” Solas said and began to turn towards the door.

“Wait!” Sule'nera shouted, her hands shooting up from the water to gesture to him to stop, “You don’t need to leave, the springs are big enough for 50, and besides it’s not my hotspring. You have as much right as I do to them. Please go ahead.” She desperately didn’t want him to leave, she missed the easy conversations between them before the kiss, but she also didn’t regret her actions. She wished that could finish where they left off, but Solas asked for more time and she would respect his wish. If she happened to maybe stare a little more at his broad back, watch the sway of his hips and firm ass as he walked in front of her in the field, well, that would stay between her and the dread wolf.

Nodding his agreement, Solas turned to the shelf and placed his change of clothes next to the basket he had claimed. He stooped to remove his boots, methodically unwrapping the leather strapped to his legs. Sule’nera tried to be discreet in her ogling, watching his strong arms flex with his movements. After his foot wraps were off, he removed his belt and jawbone pendant, staching all of them in one of the baskets on the shelf. He removed his tunic next, and Sule’nera gulped. He was left in just his green breaches and undershirt, and her eyes widened. She had never realized that the mock neck undershirt was sleeveless. Seeing his biceps flex as he folded his tunic and pulled off his undershirt made her think for a second that she was gonna pass out in the water and she could only hope that Solas didn’t see her embarrass herself by drowning in a bath.

Normally, Sule’nera wasn’t phased by the naked body, growing up with very little privacy amongst the Dalish tended to quash feelings of shame when it came to nudity. But that all flew out the proverbial window when she came face to face with the bare back of the man she was extremely interested in. She glanced down at herself through the water and came to the realization of her own nudity in front of him and wished again that she had not left her towel across the cavern.

Oh, fuck me.

When she looked up again, she bit off a choked sound and quickly threw her gaze to the opposite wall when she realized that she was staring at his bare ass. And what a nice ass it is, she thought. No, stop being weird about it. He’s just trying to take a bath and relax, same as you. Sule’nera chastises herself. She hypes herself up to act normally in front of him and forces herself to release the tension she's holding in her muscles.

“So, Sule’nera, how are you finding the healing waters?” Solas’ voice echoed across the space. A quick glance at his form showed him washing himself just as she had, though without the hair washing, obviously. The sight of the suds streaming down his broad back, the flexing of the muscles in his neck and arms as he scrubbed himself down made Sule’nera feel fainter than the hot waters. She bit her lip, clenched her thighs, and dragged her eyes away from the very tempting sight in front of her.

Sule’nera tilted her head, “Healing waters? What do you mean, are these not just normal springs?” She remembered Josephine telling her about the minerals being good for her skin, but she didn’t think Solas was talking about something as trivial as skincare.

Smiling slightly, Solas shook his head. “No, though it may be very faint, there is old magic here. It seems that the original occupants of this place weaved spells into the springs to add rejuvenating magic to the water. What most would assume is just them being reinvigorated after a long soak is actually magic aiding them to relax and recuperate.”

Gods, I could listen to him speak forever, She thought. How does he know this though? They just discovered the hot springs while we were away.

“How do you know this Solas? Is this not the first time you’ve been in these waters?” she questioned. “We were in Fereldan when they found this place, surely even you can’t tell what type of magic is in these pools after only having been in them for a few minutes.” She looked over at where Solas had been washing himself. He was sitting sideways on the same stool, his legs pointed away from her but his torso turned in her direction. He was looking at her contemplatively, his eyes traveling down her face, taking in her wet form, stopping at where the water covered her chest. His eyes quickly flickered back up to her eyes, clearing his throat and turning away to straighten up.

With one last bucket of water thrown over himself to rinse the last of the soap off, he pulled himself upright and started to walk towards the bath that Sule’nera was in.

Oh fuck , Sule’nera thought again. She immediately brought her sights to the ceiling of the cavern, trying to play off her awkwardness as just her admiring the beauty of the cavern and the warmth of the light radiating from the torches and not her desperately trying to fight the urge to see how big his dick was. Stop being weird about him, stop being a freak. While Sule’nera was fighting her demons in her own mind, she missed the way Solas’ gaze was locked on her bared neck, the wet hair that slipped from her bun framing her face and neck, pulling his attention to her collar bones and decolletage.

Once he was safely submerged in the hot spring, Sule’nera finally lowered her gaze from the ceiling. She thought it was safe to look at him, but the uninterrupted view of his chest and arms made her want to sing to the heavens. He was relaxed against the wall opposite of her, his arms outstretched on either side of him on the sides of the pool.

Strong arms, corded with muscles usually hidden by ratty clothing lay stretched to the side. Sule’nera was surprised to see a light dusting of dark hair in armpits. She doesn’t know why, but she kind of assumed he’d be bald all over.

“Who do you think told Josephine to tell the workers to clear this passage? When I was visiting this place in the fade, something drew me to the lower levels of Skyhold. I walked these passages and discovered these springs,” Solas spoke, closing his eyes. “Back in the times of the original owner of this place, they would place magical, glowing orbs in the waters that would shift and change colors, bathing the cavern in a kaleidoscope of colors. They enchanted small orbs to float through the air instead of torches, it looked to the bather as if the constellations had come down from the heavens to mingle with them.” He sighed deeply, and sunk further into the hot waters. “As for the healing aspect, I was able to tell because I could feel the magic tingling over my skin when I walked in. The magic is strong enough even after all these years to heal, for I felt it mending the scratches across my knuckles when I was washing up, and as we have been soaking in here, I suspect if I were to look at my legs the bruises I sustained in our last battle will be gone.”

Shocked by his words, Sule’nera looked to her side where she had gotten sliced by a blade in an early battle in the mire. The wound had closed and stopped weeping before she had gotten back to Skyhold, though it was still obvious where she had been hit, but after her soak in the waters she saw that it was completely healed, a small fading line being the only indication that she had ever been attacked at all.

Sule’nera looked across the pool. Solas had his eyes closed and head tilted back, his arms resting by his side in the water. Finally seizing her chance to really take him all in, she noticed how much more relaxed he appeared here. The tension of his shoulders seemed to bleed away, and the furrow between his brows smoothed out. His handsome face seemed years younger, a man unburdened by the weight of helping save the world from Corypheus.

Solas had always carried a certain rigidness in his shoulders both in the field and in Skyhold, but none of that tension was in him now. The realization that he was comfortable enough around her to allow himself to relax this fully around her warmed her heart.  With a grin, Sule’nera remarked, “This is a good look for you Solas. Ya know, when you let yourself take a break and relax you almost seem like a normal man instead of the mysterious, unapproachable, and intimidating apostate act you put on for the humans.”

“How do you know it is an act da’len, perhaps I truly am just mysterious, unapproachable, and intimidating.” Despite the no nonsense tone his voice held, the effect was ruined by the wide smirk on his face. Shocked, she had thought that he looked younger when he was relaxed, but that was nothing to how youthful he looked when he truly smiled. She feels as though she had gotten a peek into his past; could perhaps see the face of the cocky, hot-headed young man he had said he once was.

She snorted at his comment, sarcastically throwing back, “Oh I’m sure, hahren, though if you want to keep that outside perception of yourself you might want to cut back on how you spoil the children of the Inquisition, since I think most unapproachable people tend to just ignore kids instead of giving them sweets when they think no one is watching.” With a glance over at his startled face, Sule’nera chuckled and added, “Also, if you wish to keep up your persona, offering the elven servants advice and counsel after a particularly rough day isn’t very intimidating.”

A look of admiration crossed Solas’ face before he quickly schooled his features into the normal placid mask he usually wore, though with a small smile curling the edges of his lips.

“You truly are full of surprises, Inquisitor. I never tried to hide my interactions with the servants, but it is the fact that you know about the time I spent with the children that I find surprising. How did you find out?”

“I was ambushed by a gaggle of them after a meeting and they inquired if there was, in their own words, ‘some kind of secret elven gift they could give to the nice Mr. Solas’.” Sule’nera smiled to herself at the memory of a group of children, both human and elf, that stopped her in the main hall and begged for her help in what to give their new friend. “Imagine my surprise when they said they wanted to return the favor to the kind, bald man that had been sharing his cakes and stories with them while their parents were working or in meetings with Josephine.

“They called me a hero and said heroes had to help others, and since they needed help, it was my duty to help them figure out what to give you. The fact that I am also an elf apparently means that I could tell them about a secret present that only elves give to others to make it an even better gift, though I have no clue how they got that idea. I asked them what they thought you might like as a gift and one of them said that they should draw you some pictures since you liked to paint, though they were very unhappy that you were allowed to draw on the walls and they were not.” Sule’nera laughed aloud, remembering the unhappy faces and complaints from the kids about the double standards of them getting in trouble with their parents when their art migrated from paper to the walls of their rooms. “I told them that that was a very good idea, and then offered my services to assist them in writing a letter telling you how thankful they were for the stories and treats. They made me also write how they were doing like you told them to do in regards to being kind to their siblings and practicing their letters and arithmetic. After that was done, they all ran off to draw their pictures for you.”

Solas snickered, “I was wondering where my little friends had run along to, I had not seen them in the days leading up to before we left for Ferelden and began to worry that our little snack operation had been discovered by their families.”

Sule’nera grinned at the warmth in eyes. “I may have also arranged for a box of your favorite Orlesian cakes to be given to the children so they could gift it to you along with their pictures and letters. I told them that you might like some pastries of your own since they had been eating yours, and they agreed, although based on how excited they were when I told them I would give them the cakes to give to you I would not be surprised if they beg for you to share with them when you receive it.” She began to giggle, only for it to be eclipsed by a louder laugh.

Echoing around the cavern, Solas’ full-bodied laughs bounced off the walls. A deep, throaty sound left his body, his shoulders shaking up and down with the force of his laughter. Looking at him with eyes wide, Sule’nera felt herself become more enamored with this man in front of her. She had never seen this side of him before, and she felt herself slipping deeper into love with him.

“It is nice to remember that even if empires rise and fall, children regardless of the time and place truly stay the same. Children have so many lessons to teach those who are willing to learn, though few ever stop to listen to them. The curiosity of a child is one of the purest things in this world, they are going through a world that is not familiar to them and wish to only understand; they have not been jaded by time and man yet. Thank you for reminding me of this lesson Sule’nera, as well as for the laugh, I have not felt mirth like that in what feels like a millennia.” Solas’ eyes locked with hers, and Sule’nera wished she could make this moment last a lifetime. He looked the happiest she had ever seen him and the look of love in his eyes as he looked at her gave her the overwhelming urge to march across the pool and kiss him.

Fighting the urge to go sit on his lap and do something she knew she would regret, Sule’nera instead stood and went to move out of the pool. “I’ll leave you to your bath, Solas.” With her back turned she didn’t see him rake his eyes over her back, taking in her wet skin, lingering on her ass.

“Wait, please.” A hand caught her wrist, halting her retreat. She turned to look up at Solas, purposefully only looking at his face, not staring at his wet chest, knowing her self control would falter if she let herself take in the freckles that kissed his shoulders, or the tight muscles of his pecs, or the trail of hair that led below the water… Stop being a freak, we’ve had this talk, Sule’nera reprimanded herself.

Their eyes locked together, the two of them stared as if daring the other to break and look away first. As she licked her lips, Sule’nera could see Solas’ Adam's apple bob out of her peripheral vision as he gulped, and when she broke their stalemate to look at his lips she couldn’t hold back any longer and rose on her toes to reach his lips. She pressed her hands to his chest to steady herself, finally feeling the chest she has been fantasizing about during her time in the baths. Just before she was about to pull away, Solas began to reciprocate with enthusiasm, his left arm moving to wrap around her waist, while his right moved to tenderly hold her face in his hand.

The kiss started off slowly, a gentle brushing of lips against the other. Sule’nera’s confidence rose seeing how he responded to the kiss. She kissed him more hungrily, feeling an equal amount of desperation in how he responded to her. His hand on her cheek moved to her back and from there Solas trailed his fingers lightly down her spine to land upon the swell of her ass. She shivered in the kiss, the light caress of his fingers over such a sensitive part of her body exciting her in ways she hadn’t felt in months.

Her lungs burning, Sule’nera dragged her mouth away from his to suck in a breath. They panted into each other's mouths before surging back together, a being being made whole once again. She didn’t know how much time they had spent kissing before Solas pulled away, resting his forehead against hers, his eyes still closed. Sule’nera opened her eyes, gazing at the face of the man in front of her, his face flushed from the kiss or the heat of the hot springs she knew not.

His eyes still closed he spoke softly, the soft puff of his breath washing over her face, “why I was given the privilege to feel your lips upon my own I know not, but it is a blessing I shall not take for granted for as long as I live.” Feeling her heart clench, Sule’nera glanced away from his face and covered her feeling of vulnerability with a quiet snicker under her breath. Hearing her amusement, Solas opened his eyes.

They locked gazes, and Sule’nera couldn’t bring herself to look away from the intense look in his eyes. It was like looking into a glacial pool that you could not judge the depth of without stepping into it. Would you be met with a shallow puddle or would you fall deep into an abyss? Sule’nera didn’t know which she would be stepping into, but she wanted to try her luck and walk into the deep end.

Pulling his head away from hers, he reached a hand up to rest on her cheek. “What amuses you so, my lady?” He spoke with a straight tone, but she could tell by the soft look in his eyes and curled lip that he was more amused than annoyed by her laughing at him.

She pressed a kiss onto his palm, a wide grin on her face. “Nothing, it's just I thought I was the poet between the two of us. I should be the one telling you cheesy romantic lines.”

“Cheesy?” He said with mock indignation,“If it is cheesy prose milady wants, then she need only ask.” Solas dropped his hand from her face, straightened his back, and cleared his throat. “Your beauty is like a lush oasis in a barren desert and I am but a lowly man parched from the blistering heat of the sun. I beg of you, lovely nymph, let me partake of your spring to slake my thirst.”

Sule’nera stared slack jawed at Solas, eyes wide in disbelief, before throwing her head back and letting out a loud cackle. His throaty chuckle grew into a full bodied laugh, joining her mirth. The sound of their laughter bounced around the cavern for a minute before they both managed to collect themselves again. Still giggling, Sule’nera asked, “just where did you hear that? Please tell me you didn’t make that up on the spot, ‘cause if you did I don’t know whether to be impressed or worried.”

“You would be surprised by the variety of literature that can be found in the Skyhold library. I was perusing the stacks out of curiosity when I stumbled upon a surprisingly nondescript cover of what turned out to be an Orlesian romance novel that someone had reshelved in the section about historical treaties and concessions, though in the defense of the librarian the book was called The Willing Spoils of War . I only noticed it was out of place because I recognized the name of the author from a conversation with Varric where he complained about an, in his words, ‘hack Orlesian writer who wouldn’t know true passion if it shot them in the ass’.”

Sule’nera let out a snort and started laughing again, “why is that something that made it into the library? That’s not usually the type of book that a military force like the Inquisition would make sure to keep stocked on our shelves.”

Solas watched her laugh with fondness in his eyes. “I know not, but the initials ‘C.P’ on the inside cover makes me think that someone found the book laying around the keep and assumed it to just be another misplaced item from the library. I made sure to return the book to the rightful owner after I had flipped through it to ensure that it was indeed not an actual reference material.”

“You read the whole thing didn’t you?”

“Though it was certainly outside of the usual purview of the literature I usually read, it was an interesting experience to be sure. I hesitate to call it a novel, it seemed to be more cliched prose sandwiched between frankly anatomically impossible scenes of lovemaking. I simply could not put it down because I needed to see if it could get any worse than how it began, and miraculously it did. The line I quoted to you was not even the worst passage I read in the book.”

Sule’nera tilted her head and looked at Solas. She smiled and leaned in to peck him on the cheek. “You continue to surprise me. Who would have guessed that you were a secret lover of bodice rippers.” She grabbed his hand and led him out of the pool towards the shelves where they had placed their clothing. Grabbing a towel from the pile, she passed one to Solas before taking one for herself. They dried themselves and dressed in a comfortable silence.

Freshed clothed and refreshed from healing waters Sule’nera found a stool and began her post-bathing ritual of trying to tame her curls, rubbing the oil between her hands and working it into her hair, braiding a few pieces and inserting the hoops and cuffs onto them but leaving the majority of her curls loose. She glanced up to see Solas standing in front of her. “What?” she questioned.

“I wanted to thank you for the company. I am afraid I have to meet Cullen to discuss some issues, but,” he leaned down and left a lingering kiss on her lips, “I greatly enjoyed our time together and look forward to doing it again. I shall see you at dinner, ma vhenan.” With a last look, he gathered his belongings and walked up the stairs back into Skyhold proper.

Sule’nera watched him leave until he disappeared from sight. Note to self, buy Josie a fruit basket for recommending the hot springs to me.
