Work Text:
“I am not doing that.”
“Jen, don’t be such a party pooper.” Agatha sighs.
“I am not risking my life for some stupid…treasure hunt!”
“That is literally what you did on the Road.”
“To get my powers back!”
“You call your measly pink magic, powers?”
“Come on Jen! It will be fun.” Billy interjects, eager to stop a fight before it starts.
“I have to say, I agree with the kid.” Alice comments.
“Same.” Lilia smiles.
Agatha raises her hands, “See? The chances of dying are near zero.”
“But not fully.” Rio grins, flashing her dagger.
Agatha grits her teeth and rolls her eyes, trying her best to ignore the infuriating witch in the corner. That was always a difficult task, but had grown exponentially harder recently now that Rio was all but giving her the silent treatment. She knew why, but that didn’t mean she had to like it.
The coven had completed the Road without much fanfare. Jen had gotten her powers back. Lilia and Alice hadn’t died since the Road wasn’t even real. Death had let Billy go after she realized Wanda would just recreate him when she returned.
As for Rio and Agatha…well, they were as normal as you could get with them, meaning both were absolutely livid for petty and legitimate reasons. Agatha’s being on the more petty side, Rio’s being on the more legitimate. At least they had come to some sort of understanding on the Road in terms of Nicky. Agatha had forgiven Rio when she planted the dandelion, and Rio had accepted it by letting the flower grow. But then they (mainly Agatha) had to go and immediately screw it up right after.
3 Weeks Earlier
When the Road disappears, Agatha ends up back at her house. She’s relieved to see Señor Scratchy is still running around the basement perfectly unharmed. She goes over to pick him up but he runs by her toward something else. She turns around in confusion only to see Death itself bending down and picking the rabbit up.
“Hey little guy! I’ve missed you!” Rio laughs as the bunny leaps into her arms.
Agatha can’t believe how cute she finds Death in that moment. Actually she can, she had seen Rio’s soft side plenty of times before, but right now the sight annoyed her to no end. Just because they had somewhat patched things up around Nicholas doesn’t mean she wanted anything to do with Rio anymore. She’d like to think she had moved on from that stage of her life. That’s what she had told herself for 300 years at least.
“What are you doing here?” Agatha’s eyes narrow.
Rio looks up at Agatha as she continues to pet the bunny. “What? I can’t stop by to visit Señor Scratchy?”
“You haven’t stopped by in ages.” Agatha hates how a bit of vulnerability and yearning slips into the words.
“And whose fault is that?” Rio retorts, referencing the spirit witch’s possession of the Darkhold to keep her away.
“Most peaceful 10 years of my life.” Agatha shoots backs.
“Ha, funny. You hate peace.”
“I just meant it was nice to not have to see your face everywhere.”
“You would’ve stopped giving me those bodies if you really meant that.”
“That’s why I got the Darkhold.”
Rio chuckles, “And as soon as you lose it, who is the first person you thought of under that spell? Who was the one that broke you out?”
Agatha clenches her jaw. She hated how Wanda’s spell had splashed her innermost thoughts out there for all to see. She curses her subconscious for betraying the fact that Rio was still the most important person in her life outside of Nicky.
“You had nothing to do with it. That was Teen.”
“And I suppose you’ll tell him that he had nothing to do with it either.” Rio raises her eyebrows knowingly, calling out Agatha Harkness on her bs as if it’s nothing. Most witches would be disintegrated on the spot. Rio Vidal wasn’t most witches though.
Agatha glares daggers back at Death. They both knew the truth. Rio had broken the spell. Billy thought he needed a personal item for it, well what was more personal than Agatha’s literal ex-wife? Besides, only The Green Witch would have the power to break a curse by The Scarlet Witch.
“Why are you here!” Agatha yells, angry that after centuries of trying to get over Rio, their interactions could still have such a charged effect on her.
Rio tilts her head as if to say do you really not know?
Agatha seethes. She had been put through an emotional and physical ringer on the Road and she really wasn’t in the mood to play Death’s games. She also wasn’t ready to let Rio back in. She still needed more time to self-destruct first.
The green witch smirks, seeing how wound up Agatha was getting, knowing only she could get under her skin like that. The smirk just pisses off the spirit witch more, and as always, a pissed off Agatha Harkness says things she doesn’t really mean.
“I told you to stop pursuing me!”
Rio visibly recoils, and Agatha feels like she just kicked a puppy, except this puppy was the all powerful Death which somehow made it that much worse. She opens her mouth to take back the words that she hadn’t meant but Rio beats her to it.
“Fine! I’ll stop pursuing you.” The words drip in rage, pain, and double meaning.
Agatha can’t help but flinch. She had never known Rio to give up so easily, so quickly. She had pursued Agatha for centuries, but now all of a sudden she was done? The idea made her sick, but she can’t bring herself to express any of those feelings.
The green witch gives her a challenging look, as if daring, willing, Agatha to object. When the spirit witch doesn’t, Rio can’t say she’s surprised. It doesn’t make it hurt any less though. She turns and stalks off.
“Good riddance!” Agatha shouts after her. She doesn’t mean it, not a bit. She’s just pissed that Rio walked away. That was usually Agatha’s move.
Present Day
Three weeks later the dysfunctional coven finds themselves back together again. Billy had called them all to help him find his brother and despite their endless feuds, the coven all had a soft spot for the teen so agreed to help. When Agatha walks in the room though, she’s shocked and then outraged to find a certain green witch lounging on Billy’s couch.
“What are you doing here?” She spits out. Rio hardly spares her a glance, and it’s more disconcerting than any barb Death could’ve thrown back at her. She can hardly remember a time they were in the same room and Rio’s eyes weren’t on her. She finds herself instantly missing the feeling, which just makes her even angrier.
“Wait, you guys still aren’t together?” Alice asks in genuine confusion, not realizing the upheaval she’ll cause with the question.
Rio’s eyes flash and she opens her mouth to respond but Agatha beats her to it. “No, we’re not!”
There’s an awkward silence as Rio stares at the ground and Agatha tries to look anywhere but at the others. It was technically true, and what she claimed she wanted, so why did it hurt so much to say out loud?
“I asked Rio to join.” Billy chimes in to break the silence. He’s almost regretting it, realizing the two witches still hadn’t figured it out yet. But maybe this could give them a push.
“Great.” Agatha spits in disdain, trying to ignore the churning in her stomach. “More hands.”
She can’t help but glance at Rio, waiting for an inevitable comeback laced with innuendo she would outwardly hate but secretly love, but the earth witch just continues to fiddle with her knife as if she hadn’t even heard Agatha. It makes the coven leader’s eyebrows furrow and her chest pang. Rio was taking the whole not pursuing her thing way too seriously and she didn’t like it one bit.
Billy then announces he thinks he’s found a book hidden in a museum that could help them find Tommy. Jen had objected to breaking into the museum, knowing there would likely be a powerful magical trap waiting for them. Which brings them to the current argument they were in.
Jen sighs and looks at Rio. “If I die, will you walk me to the afterlife?”
Death raises an eyebrow, “Of course.”
Jen glances at Agatha and a mischievous thought comes to her. She puts on her best flirtatious smile. “I suppose that isn’t so bad.”
Agatha is gripping her chair with white knuckles, glaring dangerously at the potions witch. How dare Jen flirt with Rio right in front of her? Just because she wasn’t with Rio doesn’t mean anyone else had the right to make a move. Suddenly she’s very aware of what the feeling is inside her, but she’ll go to hell before she admits it.
“I try to make it comfortable.” Rio shrugs, and it’s clear to the others that Death is being genuine and has not picked up at all on Jen’s flirtatious tone. Agatha doesn’t notice Rio’s lack of interest though, still glaring daggers at the potions witch.
Jen smiles and tries to push her luck a bit further. “Oh I bet you do.”
Death is hardly listening, just fiddling with her dagger in a bored way. Normally Jen would be offended, but she sort of found the whole situation amusing. Rio was so whipped for Agatha, she wasn’t even noticing Jen trying to flirt with her. The potions witch couldn’t comprehend how someone would be so into Agatha, but she respects her for it she supposes. Besides, Jen wasn’t even legitimately interested. Sure Rio took the phrase “hot as hell” to a whole new level, but she preferred women that didn’t happen to be the personification of Death. She just wanted to mess with Agatha a bit, and judging by the look on the woman’s face, she was succeeding. It was the least she could do to get back at the spirit witch for binding her for 100 years.
Agatha is about to blast Jen through the wall when Billy steps in at the last second, suddenly realizing what was going to happen. He casually walks between Agatha and Jen. “Come on guys! Let’s go!”
The coven leader continues to glare at the potions witch but the purple fire in her eyes starts to retreat a bit. She gives Jen a look as if to say, next time Billy won’t save you. Jen just chuckles. Rio hardly seems to notice the whole interaction, too busy concentrating on not paying attention to Agatha at all.
Billy insists they drive to the museum rather than fly. It has to be one of the strangest experiences of his life, driving four other centuries old witches in his Subaru along with Death itself. He’s not complaining though. He feels happy and at peace with himself in a way he hadn’t his whole life. He finally found people that understood him.
“So Rio,” Lilia asks from her place squished next to the green witch. Agatha had stolen the passenger seat before all of them, leaving the rest to be cramped in the back. “How are you here with us when hundreds die every minute?”
The question is innocent enough, but Agatha doesn’t like the tone in the oldest witch’s voice. It makes her wish she was sitting back there between them. Simply to keep Lilia away from Death. That was the only reason. Not to be close to Rio or anything.
Rio raises an eyebrow and is surprised to see the others looking at her with genuine curiosity. Until then, Agatha had been the only one that seemed to take any interest in her job.
“Well, I don’t take all souls. Many refuse Death and become ghosts.” She spits out the word with venom. It makes Agatha’s lips quirk up a bit despite herself. She knew Rio was thinking of her mother when she said that. “I also mainly only take special souls. There are others that help with the regular people.”
Lilia raises an eyebrow, “Guess that means I’m special then. Since you were ready to take me on the Road.”
Agatha grits her teeth at Lilia’s tone and the subtext of the words. Why was her whole coven suddenly interested in Rio? As if they had a shot with her…Rio would never consider any of them, right? The fact that Agatha truly didn’t know the answer to that question made her stomach lurch to her throat. She had said they weren’t together, so technically Rio was a free agent. And Rio could have any man, woman, or being she wanted. Agatha would have to be an idiot not to know that. She had just always known Rio was hers. Clearly her coven didn’t get the message though, and she’s sick thinking about the possibility that maybe Rio didn’t think that anymore either.
Death, bless her heart, still doesn’t pick up on the undertone of Lilia’s words. She simply just rambles on about her job. “Well, by special I just meant I generally only pick up witches’ souls. At least, that’s what it’s been recently.”
She glances at the back of Agatha’s seat, hoping the woman would pick up on her meaning from there. Rio used to be a lot busier and would walk many others to the afterlife, but after she met Agatha she had focused more only on the witches Agatha had killed, just as an excuse to see the woman and also spend more time with her when they lived together. It had annoyed Hela and her other colleagues to no end.
Agatha doesn’t turn around, and she doesn’t pick up on Rio’s meaning. If she had, she may have been comforted in the fact the green witch was referencing their past, but she’s too clouded with anger and jealousy to really have heard Rio’s words. She’s only thinking about how she can possibly still trick her coven into giving her their powers at the moment.
Lilia smiles as she indulges Death and asks a few more basic questions about her job. She looks at Jen and winks. The potions witch has to cover her mouth to hide her laugh as she realizes Lilia was just going along with the game she had started back at the house. Sisters in the craft indeed.
Billy doesn’t have to read minds to know what is going on, so he’s relieved when he sees the museum in sight. A second more and he thinks Agatha would’ve destroyed their coven and his Subaru in the process. He wouldn’t have been able to explain that to his parents.
It’s dark out, and the museum is closed for the night. It looks ominous in the pale moonlight, and Billy is sure there’s plenty of magical boobytraps they’re about to run into. He’s sort of excited for it though.
“Maybe this was a bad idea.” Alice gulps, looking at the haunting building.
“I told you!” Jen responds.
“Please,” Agatha scoffs, “I’ve been in way worse.”
She glances at Rio, remembering all the times in the past they had infiltrated similar places to steal artifacts or simply cause chaos. She wonders if the earth witch is thinking about those memories too and hopes Rio will respond with some annoyingly suggestive remark about their past together. The green witch doesn’t say anything though, she doesn’t even spare Agatha a glance. It makes the spirit witch’s heart sink.
Billy leads them inside and down to the basement. They search through shelves of artifacts to find the book they’re looking for.
“I found it!” Billy grabs the book excitedly without thinking.
“Billy!” Agatha yells in concern, her motherly instincts rise to the surface. “Rule number one when stealing magical artifacts, don’t just pick it up without checking for traps!”
Billy drops the book. “Sorry.”
For a second they all wait, then breathe a sigh of relief, thinking nothing would happen. Then the shelves start to literally reach out and grab them.
“AHHH.” The entire coven starts to scream as they start to be encompassed by wooden bookshelves.
They try to fight off the curse with magic, but only Billy and Agatha have any level of success. Yet even they were struggling. Agatha could tell this was an ancient curse and powerful curse. Even if she could free herself, she wasn’t sure if she’d be able to break the others out. It vaguely surprises her that she even thinks about helping the others, but she doesn’t have much time to dwell on it.
She looks around, eyes naturally seeking out the person they always did in times of trouble, however, she doesn’t see the green witch in sight. She curses Death silently. Always disappearing at the most inopportune moments. She finally breaks free from her own bookshelf and goes over to help Alice first. She figured she owes Alice the most after killing her on the Road, even if it wasn’t permanent. The curse seems to be growing in power though, and she struggles to fight it off the protection witch.
“Need some help with that?”
Agatha grits her teeth at the voice behind her, but can’t help but drag her eyes over to Rio who just appeared out of nowhere. Death is leaning against the wall with her arms crossed casually, completely unaffected by the curse. She smirks at Agatha’s struggle, and the spirit witch hates how the desire to kiss the smirk off Rio’s lips rises within her.
“Where have you been?” Agatha growls. “And no, I don't need your help.”
“I wasn’t asking you,” Rio says as she walks right past Agatha, much to the purple witch’s annoyance. She wasn’t used to not having Rio’s attention and she was deciding she didn’t like the feeling.
The green witch walks up to Alice expectantly as the protection witch continues to struggle with the bookcases. “Uh yes please!”
With a snap of Death’s fingers the spell breaks and the shelves release the witches. The others collapse to the ground, but Alice stumbles into the first thing in front of her which happens to be Rio. The green witch catches Alice out of instinct and easily helps her stand back up.
Alice pulls back with a blush on her face. “Uh, thanks for the help. And for um, catching me.”
“No problem.” Rio isn’t really paying attention and doesn’t notice Alice’s flustered state, but Agatha does. Her eyes glow purple from her position behind Rio and she’s two seconds away from killing Alice all over again.
The protection witch sees Agatha’s rage over Rio’s shoulder and decides to play along with her covenmates to get back at the coven leader.
“I’m curious, can you take any form you want?” Alice asks. She purposefully takes a glance at Death’s exposed stomach and arms thanks to the outfit she’s wearing. Agatha seethes behind them, and Alice keeps Rio between them in case the purple witch decides to attack.
Rio raises an eyebrow, somewhat confused by Alice’s curiosity. “I suppose.”
“Why did you take this one?”
The green witch hesitates, then shrugs. The truth was it was just the form she had been in when she met Agatha, and she had kept it this whole time since it was the one Agatha had fallen in love with. Over the centuries she thought about changing it but never did. She felt like she’d be letting go of Agatha if she did, and she never could bring herself to do that.
Alice just nods, “Well, it was a good choice.”
Death just looks at her in confusion, not fully processing the comment. Jen and Lilia have to look down to hide their laughter. Agatha raises her fist to blast Alice but Billy jumps in front of her at the last second, holding up the book they had been looking for.
“I got it! Let’s go!”
Don’t do it Agatha. Billy says telepathically to the glaring purple witch.
Agatha narrows her eyes at the boy. Don’t overestimate yourself Teenager, I can still squash you like a bug. Billy doesn't doubt that, but he doesn’t back down. Eventually Agatha lowers her magic.
They climb back into Billy’s car and drive home in silence, all feeling the tension radiating from the coven leader. Rio tries to make herself not care. She assumes Agatha is just angry with her, as usual. She has no idea why though, but the rest of the coven does.
When they get back to Billy’s house they file into the living room. Agatha sits in the corner, rage barely concealed as she feels jealousy coursing through her veins, finally admitting that was the emotion she was feeling. Rio sits on the opposite side of the room, brooding over the fact that Agatha still wants nothing to do with her, at least that’s what she thinks. The rest of the coven stands awkwardly in the middle.
Jen glances at the others and decides to give Agatha a kick in the pants. She goes and sits beside Rio and ignores the death stare from the purple witch. “How did you break that curse?”
The green witch leans back and puts her arms on the back of her chair, not even aware of the aura she gives off by the motion. Agatha can’t help but let her eyes wander, momentarily distracted from her rage toward Jen. She begrudgingly agrees that Rio had picked a good form all these years.
“Death can break all curses.” Rio says nonchalantly, not realizing how powerful and alluring that makes her sound. To her it was just a natural truth, no one could escape Death, not even through the most complex spell. She risks a glance over at the spirit witch, remembering their conversation about how she broke Agatha out of the Scarlet Witch’s spell. The purple witch isn’t looking at her though, just glaring at Jen.
“Impressive.” Jen lays on the flirtation as much as possible.
“Yeah, maybe I should get cursed more often.” Alice smirks.
“Or just have more near death experiences in general.” Lilia chimes in.
Rio looks at the other witches in confusion, wondering why they were being so weird. She’s about to flat out ask when Agatha interrupts.
“Enough!” Agatha shouts, making all except Rio jump. Purple is dancing in the air and the coven vaguely thinks maybe they had pushed too far. Rio at first assumes Agatha is mad at her, but her eyebrows furrow when she realizes the spirit witch is glaring at the rest of the coven.
“Something wrong, Agatha?” Jen asks snarkily.
“I know what you’re all doing.” Agatha grits out.
“What are we doing?” Lilia asks knowingly.
Agatha clenches her first. She couldn’t just flat out say the truth without Rio being clued in on her jealousy. And she couldn’t clue Rio in on her jealousy since she had insisted to the green witch she didn’t want to be pursued anymore.
“Just…stop it!” Her hands start to tremble slightly as she realizes she doesn’t have a good response. She had already said she wasn’t with Rio, and now she can’t bring herself to take that back, she’s not even sure if she can. Considering the disregard Rio had been treating her with, maybe the green witch no longer even cared.
She glares at the coven before her eyes dart to Rio’s against her will. Death is just staring back at her in confusion. Agatha would’ve thought it was cute if she wasn’t so wound up. Instead she just storms out of the house to the woods behind.
It takes all of Rio’s willpower not to call after her. She’s beyond confused by the whole turn of events. Clearly Agatha was hurt and angry, and for once it seemed like it wasn’t directed at her. But she holds herself back from taking any action, forcing herself to uphold Agatha’s request, no matter how it tugged at her heartstrings.
“Aren’t you going to go after her?” Jen asks.
Rio raises an eyebrow, “Why should i?”
“Because she was basically begging you to follow her!” Jen waves her hands at the door.
“She begged me to stop following her actually.”
“And you believed that??” Alice, Billy, Lilia, and Jen all exclaim at the same time.
Death stands there open-mouthed for a second. She had never been called out by an entire coven like that before, she was mildly impressed. She wraps her robe around herself and shakes her head. “She doesn’t want me.”
The coven glances at each other in confusion. Jen laughs. “Uh what, she’s been two seconds away from murdering us all this whole time for flirting with you.”
Rio’s eyebrows scrunch, “Flirting with me?”
The others nod in bewilderment. How had Death lived for eternity and not been able to pick up on their flirting? Guess she was that enraptured by Agatha.
Rio sits up more, “I thought you guys were just interested in Death.”
“Only because you make it interesting!” Alice gestures at Rio’s form.
The green witch looks down as if she’s just noticing her body for the first time. Sure she knew Agatha liked this form, but she never really thought about how others perceived it. “So…you guys were flirting with me to…”
“Piss off Agatha.” Jen finishes.
“It was quite entertaining.” Lilia remarks.
“Got to get back at her just a little for killing me.” Alice chimes.
Rio leans back, flabbergasted. “You guys really think she still cares?”
The others blink, all thinking this must be the craziest conversation they’ve ever had. Trying to convince Death the girl liked her back.
“Yes dear,” Lilia tuts, as if Death isn’t thousands of years older than her. “You don’t have to be a fortune teller to see it. Now shoo.” She gestures for Rio to go follow where Agatha had run off to.
Rio stands up hesitantly and heads toward the door. Then she looks back at them menacingly, “If you guys are wrong I’m reaping all your souls right here.”
“We aren’t wrong.” Lilia says confidently. Rio narrows her eyes and disappears out the door.
“Great, now our very lives depend on Agatha facing her feelings for once.” Jen grumbles.
“She will.” Lilia doesn’t sound all that convincing, but they take it.
--------------
Agatha stands on a riverbank in the woods behind the house, throat tight and tears glistening in her eyes. She hates Jen. And Lilia. And Alice. And Rio. But most of all, she hates herself. Why couldn’t she just let herself be happy for once? Why couldn’t she stop pushing Rio away?
She waits for a while, wondering if Rio would show up. Hoping she would. If this was any other time, she knew the green witch would’ve come after her, but she also knows Death is loyal to a fault. Rio would keep her promise to stay away, even if Agatha desperately wanted her to break it.
After a while she realizes Rio wasn’t coming. That she had finally pushed Death too far. That she was going to be alone forever. She’s about to teleport away and never return when she hears a voice behind her that makes her heart stop in her chest.
“Rough day?”
Agatha can’t help but laugh sarcastically, though she feels relief and hope in her chest. Rio hadn’t given up on her quite yet, but she knows she can’t mess this up again.
It’s clear Agatha had been crying, and it takes everything in Rio to not reach out to comfort the woman she loved so much. Maybe the coven was right. Maybe Agatha still cared for her. She had to be sure though, she didn’t think she could handle anymore heartbreak.
The spirit witch starts with her usual deflection, “Covens. Just not used to not killing them.”
“You seemed like you wanted to though.”
Agatha looks at the ground. If Rio had seen that, had she also seen how much the others were flirting with her? Had she even been indulging it this whole time?
“I thought you weren’t paying attention to me anymore?” Agatha raises an eyebrow, but vulnerability laces her voice.
Rio scoffs at the ridiculous question at first. Death had hardly been able to keep her eyes off Agatha Harkness for over 300 years, did Agatha really think that would change now? Still, she remembers the purple witch’s request of her and feels the sting of it rise as anger.
“Well you told me to ignore you!”
“I didn’t say that!”
“Basically!”
“Well I didn’t say to just go flirt with the rest of the coven!” Agatha yells, realizing she’s revealing her cards, but she doesn’t care at this point.
“They were flirting with me!”
“Same thing!”
“Why do you care!” Rio yells, wondering how Agatha could wind her up like this after so much time. They’re inches apart now, magic and energy cackling in the air.
“Because you’re supposed to be with me!”
The two stare at each other for a second, chest heaving with pent up rage and longing. Rio’s heart is racing at Agatha’s words, but she can’t bring herself to hope just yet, knowing Agatha still had time to run from them.
“But you said we weren’t-”
Death is silenced by earnest lips on hers. Well damn, the coven was right.
Rio reflexively pulls Agatha closer as they fall into a rhythm only centuries of experience could create. She lets Agatha guide the kiss, but matches the intensity, desperate to pull the woman as close as possible as if she fears she may slip away again. It had happened before.
Agatha has no plans of going anywhere though as she’s equally lost in the kiss. They had fallen back together their fair share over the centuries, only for Agatha to push the green witch away again. But after the Road and her coming to terms with Nicky’s death, she realized she was running out of reasons to push Rio away. Rio had been the only one to look at her with any value or care in her whole life. The green witch was kind and perceiving in a way that you wouldn’t think was possible for Death itself. She had always known Rio could have anyone she wanted, but seeing her entire coven flirt with her wife had shaken her very core.
She thinks of Nicky, the boy who looked so much like both of his mothers. She finally allows herself to remember him for who he was, rather than the guilt she felt around him. She knows he’d want his mothers to be happy. It was time for Agatha to finally allow for that.
When they pull away it’s one of the few times Agatha looks more dazed than Rio. Even if she’s always had the same intense feelings below the surface, she usually hid it better, but not this time.
Rio smirks. “Still want me to stop pursuing you?”
"Yes." Agatha bites her lip and looks at Rio's. Once in denial, always in denial.
“Hmm, well then maybe I can see if Jen-”
“Finish that sentence and I swear Death will die right here.” Agatha says it in a possessive tone that shoots straight to Rio’s core.
The earth witch grins and tugs her wife back in for a fierce kiss. Purple and green magic dance around them as the two finally let themselves reunite in the way they were destined to be.
When they pull back, Rio looks deep in her wife’s eyes and strokes her side lightly. “You know, in my thousands of years of living, I never loved anyone before you. And I’ve never loved anyone else since I met you either. There’s no need to be jealous.”
Agatha softens as her heartbeat races at an even faster pace. Rio’s soft words never failed to turn her into a lovesick schoolgirl. She traces Death’s cheek with her thumb. “You could do better though.”
Rio scoffs, “Please. I’m Death. How could I do any better than Agatha Harkness? Insanely hot and powerful witch serial killer?”
The purple witch laughs a bit and leans in closer. “You mean Agatha Harkness-Vidal.”
Rio freezes, then raises an eyebrow, “You said you didn’t want to change your name.”
“Well, maybe I’m changing my mind?” Agatha twirls her hand to show Rio the wedding ring on her left finger. The one that she had never taken off in all their years apart, just hidden from view.
Tears come to Rio’s eyes as she realizes she’s in a place she never thought she’d be again. Here with the love of her life who finally accepted her back after all these centuries. She takes out her dagger and flips it in her hand. As she does, it morphs into another, smaller object.
Agatha raises an eyebrow, “You made your wedding ring your dagger?”
The green witch shrugs, somewhat embarrassed, “Good excuse to always have it with me.”
“God, I love you so much.” Agatha mumbles as she pulls Rio in for another kiss. Only Death could be such a romantic. Rio all but melts at her wife's words.
After a while Rio pulls away and Agatha wants to chase her lips but the sly smirk she sees on the green witch’s face makes her pause, heart leaping in anticipation.
“Wanna have some fun?”
------------------------
Back at the house the coven sits and makes small talk, all wondering what was going on with the two witches in the woods. The town hadn’t been destroyed yet so they’re hoping that's a good sign.
Then the lights start to flicker.
“What’s going on?” Billy asks in a panic.
Suddenly Death appears before them in her natural form, dagger in one hand, black heart in the other, bone-faced and all.
The coven screams bloody murder.
“You guys were wrong about Agatha. And now, it’s time to make good on my promise and reap all of your souls.” Death tries to make it sound as menacing as possible, but internally Rio’s trying not to laugh in amusement.
“What?” Alice exclaims as she hides behind the couch. “That’s not possible! Agatha is totally into you!”
“She’s just being a coward!” Jen yells.
Agatha rolls eyes from her hiding place and casts a spell to start shaking the house. The rest of the coven screams some more.
“Time to pay the price!” Death exclaims, she brings her dagger up and the room falls into darkness.
The coven’s screams echo in the now pitch black house. They stand frozen in silence for a minute, all waiting in terror for the stab of Death’s dagger. Then, after excruciatingly long seconds pass, they hear laughter. Familiar laughter.
Agatha lets her coven sit in terror for a bit longer as she laughs. Then she finally turns the lights back on with her magic and stands in front of the very shaken coven, eyes glinting with mirth and wickedness. Rio, back in her human form, stands next to Agatha, wearing a matching evil smirk. The two radiate power, and for a second the coven thinks they’re still about to be murdered. But then Rio gives them away by lacing her fingers through Agatha’s, causing the purple witch to visibility soften.
“You’re kidding.” Alice wheezes, realizing it was all a prank.
“Psychos.” Jen mutters.
Lilia clutches at her chest. “Was that really necessary?”
“That will teach you all not to flirt with my wife.”
Rio’s eyebrows raise slightly at the possessiveness in Agatha’s voice, the sound shooting through her like electricity. She hadn't expected Agatha to commit so openly to her so soon. The thought makes her squeeze Agatha's hand and her wife gives her a small smile before going back to glaring at her coven menacingly.
For a second the rest of the coven just nod rapidly, eager to not anger the crazy witches further. They certainly weren’t about to be flirting with Rio anytime soon.
Then Agatha’s words sink in.
“Wait…wife??”
